I fished a short session last night. The weather was dodgy but I had a hunch the system moving through might get the carps head down. My first of 4 fish included a freshwater drum? I can't say that was a first for me as I caught one a few years ago on another evening session using a pineapple pop up. There was no serious fish activity in the area but my delkim gave out an occasional beep and my rod tip bounced now and then giving me confidence they were on my method ball out there in the dark depths. Sure enough, my bobbin drops and the rod fires off resulting in a prime high teen. The rain stayed at bay as I sat glued to my rod awaiting the next run. Eventually, I get that run and I play what felt like a fish with shoulders! It shoots off into the depths only to stop suddenly? I pull the rod back and feel I am snagged on something? %$#@. I can still feel the fish as I'm fishing braid and can easily feels the tings and knocks. I haven't used braid in a long time. I find it a little getting used to again. Either way, I work on getting the fish out of the snag which works and the fish is off again. The feisty fish gives me another 10 minutes of action until it's finally netted. This would be my largest catch for 2014 @ 32LB

The Evening of Sunday 8 th June thought i would go off Spend a couple hours at my Fav ole fishing spot
not really expecting to catch, it was more of a case of baiting up the swim for the next Stupid 0 clock Morning
but thought i would put a line out for hour or two anyway.
it was a bright a lovley evening i love fishing of this little Canoe dock ( why i normally only fish there stupid 0clock in the morning)
so was it unusual for me try and fish it in the evening ( though often pre bait there in evenings) because it can get busy with canoe's
well it is a canoe dock haha.
When i arrived i was expecting maybe some of the Canoes to be maybe arriving back after a day out the water as it was already 7 pm
but the Car park was empty apart from two trucks , one of which i recognized as my Next door neighbours son's he and his mates where just getting there canoe ready to go out on the water
so all was good wasnt going to get to disrupted by canoe's .
So i got my bait box and sling shot all set up ready for a spot off baiting , and i cast a heavy feeder of ground dog biscuit, birdseed and cream corn mix , with a hook bait of plastic pop up corn and 4 gulp power maggots , and started shooting out some baits to my fav spot ready for stupid 0 clock the next morning .
My line only been in the water a min or so i had a run , turned out to be a nice 10 pound cat . so i cast out again to the same spot as before
and carry on my baiting, and hour or so went by and the Lads with the canoe arrived back so i reeled in and moved out there way so they could all get out and pull there canoe up.
Once they had done there thing and all was peaceful again i cast out once more, saying to myself final cast ill pack up go home in another half hour, come back stupid 0 clock in the Morning.
when BOOM !! another Run and boy was it taking off , the bend in the rod was telling me i had a nice fish on here, the water where i am fishing has now got heavy with weed so i was having to pull the fish
though this which i thought was making the fish seem heaver than it was maybe ?
When i saw the fish for the first time and saw it back , ahh cool another 20 + maybe mustn't loose this one come on in the Net my lovley !!
And >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
34 and half pounds get In !!! i went home a happy Boy !!
The Rig .
Always Tight Lines here ...
and so >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
With the Sun on the way down i went home smiling and then >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Next Morning at Stupid 0 clock i cast once again to the far bank , 4 fish hit the net 3 nice Doubles
and one nice 24 pounder BOOM get in Gurt Carp.
I am with doubt having my best season since Moving here to Canada learnt a lot from these pages here at CAG
like to give a special mention to Mark (hairwig) enjoyed are fish in together and thanks for the Pop up's and bolies .

Made plans to meet up with my daughter's fiancée Karl after he and I were done work to do a little carp fishing. We were to meet up at a nice Kitchener area swim that was close to both of us and too convenient to pass up. I finished work earlier than Karl so I got to the swim first, baited up with maize and a few balls of method, got the rod on the pod and waited for the fish( and Karl ).
I noticed and few 'bubblers' in the hood the spied a few fish cruising in the margins so I was hopeful for some action tonight.
After a myriad of liners kept the bite alarm beeping off and on, I finally got a fish to take and it ran straight for the far bank while I held on. What fun! What wasn't fun was trying to net this river battler on my own. At close quarters, with a 12 foot rod under sprawling tree branches, it was impossible to net. Just then, like the cavalry, Karl arrives, quickly grabs the net, and I have our first fish on the bank for a photo.
Anyhoo, I dropped my maize on a hair into the margin again while Karl sent his presentation further out towards the middle of the river and we relaxed and waited. Things were pretty slow with only and occasional liner making us stop our stories in mid sentence, hold our breath, and hope for a run.
Finally, after what seemed like a loooong wait, the bite alarm with Karl's rod on it screamed 'fish on' and he was into a nice one. Although Karl has fished a bit, off and on, since his youth, carp fishing is something new to him. I was impressed the way he fought and even guided the carp like a pro! But like prize fighters say; "Everyone has game plan until they get knocked down!" ..and the carp ran him into a tangle of tree roots and the line was jammed solid.
I told Karl to take tension off the line and see if the carp would make its way out on its own. Nope. Then I told Karl I'd head around the other side of the tree and try 'encourage' the fish out around the other way. In the meantime, Karl had worked his way close in to the tangle of roots and was able to get the fish to come out and into my awaiting net!
Well done, Karl.
Karl told me it was the biggest fish he had every caught, which made it one of my best day of fishing.
Nice scenic place and great session. I prefer river fishing myself. Thanks for the write up. Mike.

A well deserved catch.

It must be lot of fun fighting carp on float gear. Thanks for sharing.
It's more of a challenge with the lighter gear. Especially in tighter swims. And yes, a lot more fun as your more connected to the feel and fight of the fish using a centrepin instead of a spinning reel.you also have better bite detection. By the way, your welcome

Your on a roll, Hawk. Such a great venue.

Last Sunday we held our annual Ontario Spring Fish-In. There was a good turn out. A few fish caught and we all had a good time but I didn't manage to bank any fish. So, I went out the next day for a quick session since it was the long weekend. This time around I brought my float gear/ centrepin combo and fished a waggler. I used a size 2 wide gape hook on a short 8lb mono hook link and 12LB mono I used a small, in -line, sliding weight to balance the float. I put the sweet corn directly on the hook then threw a few handfuls of the same around the float. I only needed to put it out two rod lengths.
I didn't need to wait long for the first take. I struck into the float after noticing it slowly sink on an angle .The fish took off like a freight train and took a lot of line. I couldn't control it. It eventually made it's way to a snag and was cut off. I would have liked to at least get a glimpse of the torpedo but was not to be...
The second fish came soon after. This time around the fish took the bait on the drop. The float sunk right away. It took me a few seconds to figure out what happened? I thought it might have been snagged but no. The fish didn't realise it was hooked at first but eventually took off putting up a good fight in the process. The fish below was the resultMy first catch and biggest fish for me for this year. 25lb
This muddler was few pounds lighter and was a pleasure to see on the mat with it's cool scale pattern.
I did catch two smaller ones. It's always a pleasure float fishing. Nice to leave the bite alarms and big pits at home sometimes -
Nice one Zippy.

Thanks Mark for holding it. I had a good time talking carping with the guys and meeting friends and seeing some new faces. I got the chance to christen my new super modified paylaker outfit. I managed two fish later on in the day. The new outfit handled the fish quite nicely.
Your welcome, Lorne. Glad you caught some.

Sweet fish. Nice to see both sides.

Thanks Rob. It's only a matter of time until they start charging people to park there. Typical Burlington city hall and RBG for ya.
