  2. Fantastic fish

as far as certification goes they usualy want 3 pics of angler with fish, weight on certified scale, if not certified you have 30 days to get certified, you need length of fish and girth, a picture of fish on a flat surface with measuring device laying next to it and 1 witness to the catch.

    exactly.

I have the current state record weighed on my scales. Not too hard of a thing to get them certified. if not it can be a catch and release record. Did you get any measurements?

  3. Scott, All Austin anglers,

I've never seen Emma during the draw down. Can you cast, or rather how far is it to the far bank? I admit, every fisherman wishes he could fish just a little bity bit "somewhere" else. I suppose that is really the psychology of 13 ft rods. But I've always felt like the "main channel" for Emma was along the far bank. You know that old boat gas station? Across and downstream a bit from the swimming area. I'd like to drop a line about 10 yards out from that old dock area.

I spent 3/4 of a day on one trip trying to find someone who would let me fish their back yard over there. They are a pretty solid neighborhood not to let that get started. In many respects I understand. Those homes are really some "killer fine" homes. Nice enough folks - but the answer was NO, No, no. I couldn't find access to the old gas station. Just couldn't get my bearings from up on the road.

    tricks1,

I think most serious TX guys have addopted a Euro style to buff fish. Bait choice from carp may be slightly different (or not). Still, I have had incredible luck with my "old" way. Freeline a 20mm doughball that is slimey and sluffs off or melts rather quickly. My style requires you set the hook at the least hint of a take. The mental approach is sort of like your doughball is an artifical when predator fishing. You won't catch - but maybe 50% of your strikes. In fact, 50% is a pretty high number. DON'T FORGET - you cannot make buff bait sweet enough - sweet sweet sweet.

Still, straight up Euro style and Euro bait will work. They have so many big buffs it is disscusting. It is not necessary to actually fish for them, they will come.

    Phone

i think this picture sums it up, prolly a few more feet before they get it to where they want. You can easily reach the other side now with a big cast

  4. 10th Annual Austin Team Championship March 24-26, 2011

Come join us in Austin, Texas on the shores of Lady Bird Lake (formally Town Lake) on March 25th and 26th for the 10th Annual Austin Team Championship. The ATC is a 2 person team event where anglers get to compete against other CAG members from 6am to 7pm each day to catch carp. Team with biggest total weight wins. The corn boil will be Thursday evening at the host hotel. We will be doing a raffle as well, so bring plenty of cash! ;)

Registration is $175 per team and includes 1 t-shirt for each team member as well as dinner for each team at the awards dinner. Additional dinners for your guests can be purchased for $20 but need advance notice.

The host hotel has moved again. It is a beautiful hotel located just north of the Wyndham on the I35 access road and has an onsite bar and cafe. Here are the available rooms and rates. There are no 4 bed suites, the Deluxe Double is probably going to be the standard room but it is your choice which room you wish to get. Please mention that you are with the Carp Anglers Group when booking and mention which room/rate you are choosing. The rates are good for the three nights but I am sure you can work out arrangements if you plan to stay longer. Please try and book your room as soon as possible. There are many conventions in town that weekend and most hotels are booking very quickly.

As always you are welcome to choose your own lodging but the majority of us will be staying at the host hotel and that is also the location of the peg draw and corn boil. The award dinner location is still up in the air but we could possibly have it there as well.

    Texas Fishing Licenses

    • are required; you may purchase them by phone at (800)895-4248. Or online at: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/

    • Licenses are also sold at Wal-Mart, Academy, and other sporting goods stores.

    • If you would like to fish prior to the tournament we can recommend areas that will be permitted. Austin Lake has a campground (Emma Long) and it is a very similar type of venue (see rules).

A few new rule changes this year. You will not be required to bring a scale and have it verified. The Marshalls will have their own scales that are calibrated to each other. This will remove the error of reading scales and the 1% variances previously allowed. Also only Marshalls will allowed to verify fish weights. Opposing teams will no longer be allowed to verify and enter weights on the score cards.

    Rules:

    • No pre-fishing in Town Lake from Sunday through the start of the event. Anyone seen not complying with this will disqualify his or her team from the competition and the entry fee will not be refunded. All participants are allowed to plumb and research the lake; this includes the use of SMART CASTS.

    • All of the city park rules must be observed.

    • Only Cyprinus Carpio count for total weight and big fish (no buffalo, grass carp, Old tires, tennis shoes etc.)

    • ONCE AGAIN, a special award for the biggest Buffalo (any variety) will be presented.

    • Each two-person team may fish anywhere within half the distance of opposing team pegs, including pegs on the other side of the lake (you must however be in the same COUNTY).

    • Each team must have 1 net that provides a safe way to land fish. Nylon knotted nets will not be allowed.

    • Each team must have a well-padded unhooking mat and weigh sling.

    • 6 rods per team.

    • One hook per rod and no treble hooks or any multi-pronged hooks allowed.

    • Fish must be weighed and then verified by only a steward. Please return fish to the water promptly, after taking your photo(s). Only one fish per sack, if necessary.

    • Boats will not be allowed during the event.

    • If a fish is hooked before the competition ends there will be a 15-minute extension time limit allowed to land the fish.

    • Any foul hooked fish will not count; all captures must be hooked in the mouth area.

    • You must be a CAG member to participate in the ATC -

  6. My family and I are gonna fish Emma Long 12-31 thru 1-2 for the FFF and if anyone is brave enough to enter and hang out with us in the cold you need to register to qualify for prizes. We will be camping out at one of the utility sites which cost $25 a night and are first come first serve. Lets have some fun and ring in the new year with a carp buzzer singing.

  7. the refuelling takes about 40 days and starts on that saturday!

well, that just sucks. I could move it a week later but not a week earlier due to the SXSW music festival

  8. well dam it man!! the 26th of march is the first day of the refuelling at Hatch nuclear plant. there is NO WAY i can make it again this year!!! dam!!!!

    they refuel on a saturday?

  9. Emma Long on Lake Austin is your best bet. January 3rd they are drawing the lake down to help with the hydrilla problem. It does make the lake a muddy mess, but the fishing is spectacular . Maize, method and small boilies work great that time of the year. The utility sites are on the water and have electricity so you can bring an electric heater for your tent. Utility sites are $25 a nite and a one time charge of $10 per vehicle.

You are correct that LBL closes at 11pm so night fishing is not allowed but you can always swing by during the day while then get back over to Emma Long Park before they close the gates at 10pm

let me know when you are coming down and I will help all that I can

  10. Yea, but I hear his wife Jackie can. I guess she caught one before he did, and she hadn't been fishing very long at all.

Thanksgiving weekend we're all going to try out Lake Palo Pinto west of here. Looks like a really nice lake with good scenery.

Does anyone know of any good lakes in the area west of the metroplex?

    Any "HOT" spots?

My buddy KC who lives in brekenridge has fished palo pinto, graham and Hubbard creek. All have carp, just not of any substantial size. Although Hubbard creek has a good herd of decent size buffs

  11. Hello Brid,

Scott has final say as the Event Organizer.

I spoke with Scott and we both feel that how you act from this point forward will determine the outcome.

So let me be very clear so there is no misunderstandings.

You have the opportunity to lift your ban should you proove to Scott from this point forward that you are willing to stay out of any negative crap, do not create a scenario where it allows negative crap...in other words don't shoot yourself in the foot.

    agreed
