  1. This will be my 7th ATC, and my partner Rick Slinker, it's his 6th. Both of us get excited at every ATC like it was our first. That's how special we hold the ATC in our heart. This is a full blown , first class team tournament.

With Neil and his TX crew running this, make this venue a very enjoyable one.

My 8th ATC this year and one of the two reasons I moved to Texas and specifically Austin - would not miss it for anything. This year will be the year that a lady gets her name on the trophy as Kristi will be partnering me.

  2. I tend to agree - the timing of the event really does favor the Northern and Eastern anglers - the Southern anglers carp have already spawned and are back down in weight e.g. last night I had two big twenties, one of which came out 5 weeks ago at 35+ the other 4 weeks ago at 33+.

The event timing is not great for us here in Texas, but I paid my $10 to enter anyway.........

  3. I would prefer pick two, drop one on the first day. Second day should be reverse order of standing after first day - pick the peg you want. This would give the guys with a bad swim the first day their choice of swim on the second day.

  4. here is the Official ATC Tee shirt,,,,,

Full logo of the event on the front

CAG Logo on the left hand sleeve

Sponsors for the Event on the back, along with the proclamation from the mayor........

Please order here,,,,,,( on this thread)

Shirts will be delivered at the CORN BOIL

all sizes available,,,,,,,,,$20.00 small thru X-tra Large------$22.00 premium sizes

the shirt is Grey,,,,,this is NOT a screen Printed shirt, It's done with a process called SUBLIMATION, so it is very smooth,,,no rough spots at all.......please excuse the picture...the printer just took a quickie for me so you could see it.......

Neil count me in for two Large t-shirts

  5. Actually Phone that is a regular mirror not a linear, linears have a row of scales along the lateral line.

I would be interested to see the other side of this fish, to see if the strange markings on the side are repeated. It almost looks like a bunch net marks all over the side.

  6. OK GIRLS N BOYS

we are all set for Saturday evening,,,,,we have permission to use the area adjacent to Utility site 1......must NOT fish off the Docks, Must NOT fish in the Swim Area,,,,,the rest of the place is ours,,,,,,,at the Gate you will be charged a 10 dollar entrance fee..ad a 10 dollar camping fee,4 people can camp on the same site for the same 10 bucks let them know and try to get there together to take advantage of this..,,, that will assure us of everything, and we can stay all night,,,,not a problem,,,,,

we have it reserved under either my name, OR The Carp Anglers Group,,,,,,

there are no grass passes, so just unload your chit as close as you can, and you can park in the Utility site overflow parking, or anywhere else that suits your fancy,,,,full use of rest room facilities,,,,burn ban in effect so no campfires,,,,,,can use un obtrusive Bivvys..no mega tents,,,,please,,,,,,we usually give all the Kitty cats caught to park employees,,,you can as well but don't have to,,,,,,,,,any questions let me know,,,the area is ours,,for the evening,,,,

Great job Neil - I feel a bit better than just turning up and hoping it will be OK. See you on Saturday. Leave enough space for two pods and six rods as we will probably not get there until 7:00 ish

  7. I asked Tony, and Keith Melrose, unfortunately they are both busy,,,BUMMER

but there will be other times... ;) ..

OK, OK, so EMMA it is,,Saturday afternoon and evening till early Sunday,,a hot summer fish in in the cool of the night,, ,,,,be able to fish the margins,Keith, will be good to see you again..

    So Far:

    Me

    Carl

    Steve

    Keith

Make that Keith & Kristi ....... probably

  8. Looking for interest in a fish-in at grapevine lake at undetermined location for Saturday night 7/16.

We have a good spot in mind but would like to hear from others of possible other locations that can handle alot of anglers.

Might make it Stephen..... However last weekend the carp were non-existent (we only caught one of about 2lb) and the buffs did not appear until around 4:00 a.m.

  9. Thinking about Emma this week end,,,doing an all nighter in the Days use area.....how about that??? chance of buffs, Grassers, and Carp,,,,,,tired of fooling around with 8- 12 pound carp....need some line takers and rod benders :o

Carl has never got a Grasser, so it would be a good opportunity for him

Now that sounds more like a plan to me......

  10. CC - I have found zig rigs to be really effective when the carp are suspended. Once you find the right depth the takes are normally screamers as the carp are not expecting to get hooked at all. I use plastic boilies that have been left in flavor for my zig rigs although high bouyancy, high visibility popups work too.

  11. Thanks a lot keith! Im pretty good at carp fishing now, not grwat but gtood enough to venture out at night... i have all the stuff u listed plusmore haha... And do u feel that carp are just as active at night or more active? And do u feel like u catch bigger quality fish or no difference? and i was wondering deep or shallowe because i wasnt sure how carps behaviors are a night... I wasnt sure if they moved ot deep water or they roamed the shallows in the night.

    Thanks, CC

Carp activity at night depends on the weather, the lake the activity on the lake so too variable to comment - some places turn on at night and some turn off.

Again carp quality at night may work in your favor if only smaller ones feed during the day, but on a lot of lakes what feeds at night is the same as during the day.

In warmer weather carp will move into the shallows at night as the shallower water cools down quicker, if you can get bait in the area before they get there you can have some bumper catches in the shallower water. For example a few weeks ago a few of us fished one of the local lakes over night, as the night progressed the carp moved closer in from 15 feet of water to around 6-7 feet, captures just became more and more frequent the longer into the night I fished i.e. 1-2 bites an hour at 9:00 p.m. became 6-8 bites an hour by 6:00 a.m. There was no real change in the quality of the fish just a significant increase in the quantity of fish feeding in the swim. The range also went from 80-100 yards (16 feet depth range) down to 40-50 yards (6-7 feet depth range), after the sun came up the fish could be seen rolling further and further out and the number of bites rapidly decreased until by 9:00 there were no bites and the only signs of fish were over 150 yards from the shore (30+ feet depth).

  12. Ive seen and heard of people night fishing for carp. i always wanted to try this but never got around to it. Who on here night fishes for carp? The people that do... why do you night fish opposed to day time fish.Is it just when it gets really hot in the summer people night fish because the carp or more active or what? If i go night fishing what kinda water should i target, Deep or shallow or doesn't it really matter!?1 How many think that fishing at night can and could increase your catches in size and numbers!?! Also if any one has any tips or information on this approach for carp it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, CC

I night fish here in Texas because of the daytime heat. I prefer deeper water as the carp tend to be there because it is cooler, but I have caught them in two feet right in the edge overnight too. One place I have been fishing recently the carp and buffalo will start to bite when the sun goes down and stop when it comes back up - guess when the best time to fish is? LOL

Night fishing is such a great experience but you have to be properly prepared:

    • Adequate clothing for overnight outdoors (temperatures can and usually do drop at least 20-25F overnight).
    • Be proficient at catching in the daylight before you venture out at night (try fishing into the dark from the evening before you go the whole night)
    • Take food and drink appropriate for the night time weather
    • Have a good headlamp (preferably two) and backup batteries.
    • Fish less rods to start with - it's easier to avoid tangles in the dark
    • Be organized i.e. put stuff down in a specific place and always put it back there, that way you know where it is in the dark, when your batteries have gone out in the headlamp and you are trying to find that thing you need :)

Catching carp at night can be a fun and exciting experience or it can be a complete nightmare - relax, enjoy the night and always remember why you are there.......
