  1. Paul, I was not trying to disrespect thse who fly fish (whether for carp or any other species) just trying to say it is not my preference. Bonefish for example are hard enough to catch with spinning gear without the added difficulty of having to accurately cast a fly with as little splash as possible.

  2. A lot of the North Western states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho etc) have lots of guys who fly fish for carp on a regular basis. Must be something in it but can't figure it personally. Fly fishing seems to be a way to make it harder to catch fosh to me rather than easier. Oh and yes I have fly fished, for carp as well as other species including ocean going species

  3. Seems that fly fishing for carp is becoming more and more common in those areas that fly fishing is common in the first place.

I completely liken it to flyfishing for bones - just don't have that type of water in the Bay Area to even try and fly fishing to me is all about the action of getting the fly in the right place and less about playing a hard fighting fish on what has to be considered inappropriate tackle.

  4. Tony,

As I am in Northern California I would be interested in chatting some more about those carp on the Columbia system. It is no more of a drive to the Columbia than it is to San Diego for me so a good couple of places to fish would be helpful.

Maybe we can chat at Austin in late March
