  1. Brid fished this little pond that belongs to the Santa Clara water district. I do some work with the water district and they just drained the little pond. Brid and other CAG members have caught carp over 40 lbs in this little pond. He told me he had a monster hooked one time that pulled his hook all over the lake and he could not even slow it down. I was thinking it was just another fish story but when they drained the lake they found a sturgeon over 100 lbs. So it was not a fish story but he did hook the biggest fish of his life but it was not a carp but a sturgeon. We have Sturgeon in the bay so someone must have stocked this little lake many year ago with a sturgeon. They stocked sturgeon in Lake Shasta many years ago and people do hook them but they just get spooled because not one uses big gear to catch trout , salmon, bass and catfish.

  2. I do some work for the Santa Clara water district and Chris who works there told me a great fish story. Brid has fished this pond for many year and he has caught many fish over 30 lbs and he know someone that caught carp over 40 lbs at this little pond. Brid has told me how he hooked a fish that was huge and ran all over the place but he could not turn it or control it. Brid was sure it was the biggest carp he has ever hooked but it got off the hook. The water district had to drain the pond and when they did they did have carp over 40 lbs that died. Chris told me that with all the other fish in the pond the one that shocked them the most was the 100 lbs sturgeon. We have sturgeon all over the bay and someone must have stock him in the pond many years ago. So I think the fish Brid hooked was not the 40 lbs carp but a 100 lbs sturgeon.

  3. I have been after big Bob for over 5 years and I only saw him one time but he is huge. I have caught may fish over 20 to 30 lbs in this lake and Bob makes them all look small. I did break my foot and now I am in a cast. So Bob is safe from me but I hope you catch him so he will not be a figment of my imagination. I have not seen him in over 2 year but I know he is still there,

  4. I broke my foot carp fishing - yes this is a true story. I was showing Pete a new member (for California) who moved here from Pennsylvania how to catch carp in our lake in San Jose. Pete is a CAG member but had not fished California waters so I told him I would meet him at the lake. The carp bite was on big time. I had a carp on the line and it started to run up the lake so I followed it and I was watching the line and not the rocks and I broke my foot. I caught the 7 lbs carp and before I could get packed up to go to the doctors Pete got to reel in 2 carp on my other 2 poles. This was the best action I have ever had at this lake. Four carp in less than an hour. So in July I plan on going back to the lake and give it another try.

  5. I know that Keith and Kristy live up there and they always drove down to the warmer lakes. Brid , Kristy and Keith all moved to Austin Texas but they would know about Lake Tahoe.

  6. carp love rotten corn - I had some maze go bad on me and I tried it and the carp loved it but I could not stand it but it was the best maze I have ever made. I only wish it did not smell so bad because it was a great bait. My hand would smell for days after fishing but the carp loved it. Do would not worry about hurting carp they are eating machines.

  8. On Easter Sunday I went fishing by myself but met new kids at the lake. The first family that came by was from Fiji and the 9 year old boy had never fished before so I told them to stick around and he could catch a carp. He caught a 8.5 lbs and a 15 lbs carp and was very happy and wanted to learn about carp so I gave them the carpanglersgroup web page. The next family was from India and the 13 year old girl was walking by when the fish hit so she got to catch a 10 and 15 lbs carp and they took pics and wanted to find out about carp fishing so they will check out the web also. Two families came to the lake with no fishing poles but caught 4 carp. At the end of the day I caught two 15 lbs carp because all the kids had gone home.

Great sunny day at the lake

  10. I will be in the warm water area by a couple of miles. Can you let me know if a tench counts as a carp? This lake is full of tench.

    Thank you, Jeff! :yourock:

Another veteran CAG member in in the mix! Your residence has required some refinement of the boundaries. Draw a line from the southern junction of 101 and 152 in Gilroy and extend it through the junction of route 17 and 1 in Santa Cruz to the ocean. If you fish north of that line, you are in the North/Phone Zone. If you fish south of that line, you are in the South/Warm Zone. Let me know as soon as you can. Thanks.

    Hi Mick:

I live and fishing in Santa Cruz so I get to be part of North and South. Santa Cruz may be 1 degree warmer than Clear Lake but I get to sleep in my own bed after fishing.

  13. We had slow fishing for small carp this weekend - 5 carp - 4 on Sat. morning and them one at 3 pm on Sunday. K1 tutie frutie maze with calf mana pack bait. We did not see many carp in the river this weekend but we had nice 85 degree weather.

I bought Prologic hooks on line - size 1 - Model c3 - but now I do not know where I bought them. I checked with the CAG vendors but could not find them - any help would be great.
