  1. Spent last week in St. Louis for the VA Wheelchair Games(500 Veterans competed in many sports for medals)

Prior to my trip I made contact with Doug Reed about doing some fishing a day or two. Well let me tell you Doug treated my friend Harris and I to some great fishing. Tuesday afternoon we set up at a local park. Doug caught a couple but Harris and I were shut out.... no problem though we had a good time getting to know Doug and a couple of other gentleman who stop to fish and talk fishing. We decided we would hook up again on Saturday morning for more fishing at a local Pond. We set up around 6am Doug brought another CAG'er Marco with him and soon alarms were going off at a fast pace. Harris had never been carping before so Doug and Marco made sure he got lots of action. He had 4 before I got my first one. Doug showed us how to float fish... Man what a blast.... Harris and I caught at least 4 or 5 each, six to eight feet off the bank floating holding the rod for fast hook set.. very exciting fishing..Doug and Marco treated us like Kings. Doug even gave me a box of feeders and a bunch of hook removers to use for my Optimist Club MRDD fishing derby this coming weekend... Thanks again Doug....Not only did Doug teach me some new ways of Carping I think he has me talked into going to the Classic. I found CAG over the winter always cat and carp fished but had no idea there was so much to learn and so many people out there that were into carping. I signed up for CAG in December but realized when I got home from St. Louis that I wasn't even a paying member so I payed up today and now I'm a full fledge CAG member. Doug took some pic's and hopfully will post this week sometime.

    The Numbers:

    Harris- 12 total commons/ Big fish 11.11

    Rodman- 9 total commons/ Big Fish 11.4

Doug - To many to count (lost track)

Marco- to many to count (lost track)

  2. Well we had our first carp fishing day today.... my brother-in-law(P.P), his girlfriend, her 3 kids and my son hit the bank around 11am today. It was very nice here today(57degrees) P.P. spent the winter making many different types of Boilies . I used boilies for the first time today ( Strawberry pop-ups & Anise pop-ups). Very easy to work with. We fished a private 2 acre pond that last summer I caught many 6 to 12 lbers on my trusty wheaties with butternut squash from my garden. Only wish I could report we caught fish but NO we were shut out on the carp. The kids started bluegill fishing and had a blast. I 'am going to a Paylake tomorrow. Throwing the same bait including the butternut and see what happens. Suppose to be in the 60's.

Any tips for cold water paylaking?
