  1. Hi Guys

A nice chap i met on facebook commisioned a picture of Dean Brookes with a 40 for me as a gift to him for the big 40 birthday from the Big Carp news Team. There are several guys out there doing portraits but this guy is the best i have found. He has done artwork for many of the major magazines in the Uk and just did a piece for Jim Shelleys new book.

Here is the shot of Dean and the picture used. Also there is some of his other pieces of work. he is able to ship to the US, and this package arrived without any issues or damage.

    His facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/stannartfishing?fref=ts

    and his email is stannart@live.co.uk

Payment is via paypal, and his costs are (approx due to daily currency conversion rate) A4 size (regular printer paper $100) and A3 double printer paper size $160) + shipping which is about $10.

Check out his work, oh and i dont get any commision for this, just think the blokes top class and sure some of you would love one done as a memento of that stunner you bagged once upon a time.

  2. What a tough month to choose from, rods fish was amazing, and even beat an upper twenty fully scaled and a trio of thirties. The shape and scale pattern of this fish is great for us carp fishing because we truly do have carp that are better than some of the major European waters......and many of them pay a lot of money for fish that are bred to look like this. What an amazing resource we have.....and it's free too ! It's no surprise with fish like this that a major angling tourism guiding service from Europe are in talks with me about setting up over here. Keep up with the great entries guys, I have a feeling the carp world will sit up and admire and envy us soon!

  3. where are you tring the palomar knot?

easiest way is to tie a double overhand loop in the end, then you can attache via a quicklink, or slide loop through swivel and then slide hook and rig through the loop and pull tight to attache to swivel

  4. If your using boiles I would not recommend a spod or spomb, a bit of a wider spread is best for boolie fishing, get the fish moving about a bit and catch them off guard, I do love a catapult for that lovely spread of baits you get, I used to use the korum one, which was good, but I'd get through one a month as the elastics sucked, I currently use both, just depends on what range I'm fishing etc.

  5. It can ache a bit using the traditional ones, and I had two mates who had injuries, one tennis elbow and one required shoulder surgery, the cyber shot is purely wrist action. There is a lot of misconception about sticks splitting baits, it's not the stick that causes it is the bait that's the issue. If your looking at 50- 80 yard range I'd say cyber shot. The other ones are poor for short range, they are too long for that type of action.

You won't be disappointed with the cyber shot, I took it to the act when it first came out, and everyone was very impressed.

  6. The nash deliverance cyber shot one is the best one for baiting at both short and long range, and for various sized baits up to 24mm, many other brand stick is fine for baiting long range, but short range you would still require a catty. Or nash do stealth ones for various ranges, but the deliverance one cover all ranges, and although a bit more expensive it is also very light to use and stops any potential injuries like tennis elbow etc. also depends on bait sizes, I struggle with 15mms at range in other sticks, but the cyber shot fires out that size fine. if your sticking at ranges of 80 yards plus using 18mm baits or bigger the cheaper plastic ones in the 30 dollar range have also done me fine over the years, although I did have one crack once. Hope that helps.

  7. I have been doing something a bit different lately, not got the rods out but been feeding a local spot that holds about 8 carp and filming the action. one is a stunning fantail that certainly was not camera shy today. the plan is to catch them live on camera in a few weeks with my mate dave moore. hopefully one on a bottom bait and a live pick up on a zig bug. enjoy this short teaser.

  8. helicopter rigs as standard will underperform a standard bolt rig in reference to hook pulls as the line on contact is not in a straight line.

use inline leads, longer hooklinks if its silty/soft, and use pva, pack, feathering etc to avoid the tangles.

im not a fan of heli rigs at all. even in bad silt id just use a lighter lead and longer hooklink over a heli.

  9. based on catching them in the UK and France id say this.

strong gear, big reels fully loaded with line, they are eating machines (caught same one three times in a day once), very cagey feeding so if its a shallow water floats work well with slim jims as bait, otherswise runnning rigs over bolt rigs. boilies, pellets, sausage all work well, and cat or dog food in gravy is great as chum

have fun, my third favorite species after carp n wells catfish.

picture of a beast i had in france, 85lbs, size 8 hook and 10mm pop up and 90 minute fight on 15lb mono, quite an experience
