  1. It looks like the Buckeyes are serious this year! Come on Hoosier Carpers. We still have 24 spots to fill in order to have a full roster. No need to wait until the last minute. I'm sure Paul would like to have an idea on how many anglers will be participating this year as soon as possible in order to be able to make decisions affecting zone designations, among other things.

  2. Can you explain that? I see much more experienced carpers on here using much lighter line than I am, apparently without issue. My breaks come when I really try and cast far out. With a 12' rod, I am generating too much tip speed I imagine and snapping the line.

Perhaps your trouble is due to your rod having too low of a Test Curve (TC) rating. The higher the TC the more play you have in the end of the rod. Try a rod with a TC of 3.0 to 3.5 and see if that stops your break offs. Also, you may be using a lead that is too heavy or too much pack bait on the lead. Try experimenting with different lead weights and amounts of pack bait around the lead to see if makes a difference.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Well Brian, you already witnessed me loose my temper back in June when we fished Sterling State Park and the same thing happened. Fortunate for me there was only on guy trying to help himself to our bank space. I don't blame you for just leaving when the odds were against you. However, like I said before, we have to stand up to these bullies or they will just keep on bullying. There is no doubt in my mind that they casted over you lines on purpose just to get you p. o.'d so you would do exactly what you did, leave.

I advoacte we push for the same rights that hunters have. Most states have laws against hunter harassment. Why not laws against angler harassment. Perhaps a new law such as this would at least make them think twice before the attempt to push you out of your personal space.

Sorry for your ruined day. Hope you haul next time you go.

  4. I used to fish that spot alot on hot August nights when nothing else would bite except hungry carp. Ofcourse that was 20 years ago when I lived in MI and I didn't know anything about carp fishing. We used to squeeze the water out of a handful of oatmeal and attach it to the hook with spawn wrap to keep the yellow belly cats from stealing our bait. We didn't have any bait runners or rod pods back then and all of us took turns jumping in the water to retrieve our poles after a carp yanked it off the bank when we weren't paying attention. I'm glad to see that the carp are still biting down there.

  5. Andy,

Please add my name to the stand-by list for Team Indiana (Roy Buchanan). I plan on attending the event even if a slot doesn't open up for me to fish. Sorry for the late notice. I just transferred to another duty location and I will now be able to make the trip. I look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

  6. Thanks for sharing fellas. I need to warn you now to keep an eye on your bait bucket next time we get together. I definately need to find out what your secret is! lol

I wish you both continued success.

P.S. I see that Bill W. is done for the season. I guess since he broke the 30 lb mark he feels that he has accomplished all he can for 2013. I will be sure to give him a hard time the next time I talk to him.

  7. I wish I would have stayed an extra day and went fishing with you fellas. I was driving down I 69 on my way home to Greencastle , IN when the pics started coming in to my cell phone. I almost turned around but by then I was already 3 hours into my drive. Great job to everyone. I'm especially happy for Bill. Way to go brother-in-law! You have definately been working hard towards that 30 lber. Congrats!!!!!

  8. If you are willing to drive to Angola you might as well drive another 20 minutes to Lagrange, IN. Take IN 20 West off of I 69 and go to the town of Lagrange. Turn left at the light (IN 9) and follwing it south to Sylvan Lake. You can fish the top of the dam or to the right of the boat ramp. Slow bite but nice fish when you catch them. High 20's and maybe even a 30 possible.

    Good Luck!

  9. I really enjoyed fishing with you all. The social was a great success. I didn't catch as many as I would have liked but, the good company made up for the lack of fish. Next time I come up to fish with you all I think it should be mandatory that Austin and Brendan fish with one hand tied behind their back (just to make it fair for everyone else) LOL. Congrats to the winners and to all who participated. I look forward to fishing with you all again. Wish Bill and I good luck during the CCC in Indianapolis at the end of the month. I wish some more MI anglers could make the trip. I'll do my best to show Bill the ropes on the White River so that he makes a good showing of himself since he will be representing the MI CAG.

  10. I'll be there! I bring something to munch on don't know what yet. Probably some hamburger and buns if someone will have a grill. I say let's start at 9:00 a.m. that way no one has to drive in the dark to get there. Ford Lake carp will bite at all hours of the day anyway so we don't have to get up with the rooster in order to get bit.

Hopefully Bill and I can talk our wives into tagging along. Ofcourse they will have to drive separate becasue the do not like sitting on the bank as long as we do.

I can't wait to see you all again, some old and some new faces. I am really looking forward to fishing Ford Lake again. It's been over a year since the last time.

  11. Great Mirror Austin. Keep feeding them and getting them nice and fat. I will be up there in OCT for a wedding and I look forward to fighting a few of those MI Hawgs myself. I look forward to seeing you and your brother at the CCC in Indy next month.

P.S. You all need to stop giving Bill the crummy pegs at your fish-ins. lol You could at least turn him on to your secret bait. He's had a rough year and I would love to see him hook a beautiful mirror like that. I'm sure that would put a smile on his face.

  12. I'm no subject matter expert, but I believe that Lake Erie was resurrected due to the intorduciton of the Zebra Mussel from ship ballast that were ferrying through the St. Lawrence Sea Way. the Zebras filter the water for aquatic plankton and in the process clean the water. it was only a matter of a few years from the time the Zebras were introduced until the lake showed a dramatic increase in clearity and quality. It wasn't too long ago that Erie was considered dead but not it has become one of the primere Walleye and Small Mouth Bass fisheries in the wolrd. Maybe they should discuss the option of adding Zebras to the lake.

  13. I like the enterprise, little round rubber balls myself. I use the flourescent yellow on the hair. I haven't had much luck with the white. I don't believe these float but, it doesn't seem to matter to the carp. The bait definately sticks out in comparison to my pack bait. I believe that is what triggers the bite.

  14. If you want to go long rods BFS has a good assortment of starter rods starting around $25.00. I live in Indiana so I have the good fortune of living about 40 minutes from West Side Bait and Tackle in Indianapolis. Jimmy (the co-owner) has a great selection of carp gear for us Hoosier carpers. You may want to try the Little Dipper Bait shop in Flat Rock, but you better hurry because the owner is closing shop soon. You may be able to get some good going out of business deals.

I just bought 3 new NGT "All Black 60" bait runner reels w/extra spool for $25.00 a piece. The reels comes with one spool loaded with the new NGT carp line. Great looking reels and work real well. I put them on some new NGT 13' rods ($70.00 per).

If you really want to see a great variety of carp kit, you should think about comming down to Indianapolis in September for the CCC. We will be fishing right across the street from West Side bait and tackle. Also, the Michigan CAG members have a great club and any one of them would be glad to let you try out their gear before you buy. As a matter of fact I think you fished with my brother-in-law Bill Wazelle last weekend at Ford Lake. Bill is at Ford Lake all the time fishing so, the next time you see him there ask him if he has any used gear for sale. I'm sure he has some kit that he will sell you at a decent price so you can get started. Good luck to you. Maybe I will see you on the bank up in Michigan this fall. I usually try to get up there a few times a year to fish. I grew up in Wayne, Mi.(just a stone throw from Belleville) so it's like going back home to fish.

    Tight lines and scream'in runs!
