  1. Haven’t been on here for a while, but I have been fishing. 2020 was a tough year, even though it was OK to get out, it seemed hard to make plans amongst all the stuff going on. Combine that with high water conditions, it seemed that nothing was going our way.

I did manage a 4 day session at our favourite spot.  We did well, landing 42 rather large specimens that topped out just north of 35 lbs.

We are booked again this year for the prespawn and with the 3 rod amendment to the regulations I think we have a crack at 100 fish over 4 days.

Here are a couple samples of the caliber of fish at our spot. The first picture is my PB from last year and I'm holding my buddy's PB on the second pic from the year before.

Good luck to everyone this season and have fun buying all the extra rods, reels, alarms, rod pods and swingers that come with our new regulations!!

  2. Water levels until quite recently have played a part in the spring fishing. One thing that I have had great success with is dried fruit for hook/ hairbait.  Raisins (golden and red),  dehydrated cranberreries (craisins) have done remarkably well.  Try any tribs off of Lake Erie..... I have broken the 30 lb mark on 2 occasions and 20lb + fish can be expected at each session.  Chumming to excess has always worked for me ...I'll go through a 5 gallon pail of boiled feed corn at each session.  Good luck to all this season,  it's going to be a good one.

  3. November 5th was one of those June days in November. I was fortunate to get out with my fishing buddy and enjoy the warm day and some scrappy specimens...... Here are some pics...

  4. You are correct. Beyond the sign is the sanctuary......we have had CO officers drop by to say hi....I play by the rules as should everyone.

  5. Mixed emotions about this as an angler. In a lot of ways I like the enigmatic state of carp fishing. I wouldn't want to have it become a shoulder to shoulder sport like the steelheaders. Even if they held the tournament the gov would find another way to be a smile wiper...just saying....

  6. Thanks guys, as a footnote. I bought some prepared hookbait from Sail, called licorice lust....it was the hot bait....very pungent..

  7. Last Friday we decided to roll the dice and attempt a day long session at our favourite spring location. The weather networks had various ideas what the day would be like so we decided to man-up and face the elements.

We arrived at our spot at 7:30 after an hours drive and immediately setup camp, especially the day tent as it was cloudy and looked like rain.

Water temp seemed cold but we saw some surfacing so we knew they were there, but would they bite?

We used strawberry flavoured maize and some home-made boilies to prime the swim. Honey cucc was used as hook bait on the hair.

It didn't take long at all before the action started. Julian was leaving me behind as he banked 3 fish before my first good run. The action never let up, we had 10 fish in before 10 am and it kept on going. Our previous record was 28 fish for this spot so we set our sights on breaking 28 before calling it a day.

We ended up breaking the record at 29 fish just before 6 pm......too tired to get to 30 ...but I guess its good to leave something to shoot for next time. I lost the competition 17-12....

The fish ranged from 10 lbs to 26 lbs, only two over 20 were caught but were all feisty and fighting well.

Here are some pics, we did have a double header and a near mishap with a new rod and reel (carp know when the bait runner is off or too tight).

It's time to get out there ...they are hungry...

  8. I see that there are carp matches held in Guelph and I suspect its Guelph Lake. I've bass fished the lake years ago and remember seeing carp jumping. Has anyone fished it recently? It's a bit of a drive for me but the it looks like a nice venue.

    Appreciate some help.

    Kevin

  9. Thanks Mark, problem I don't have the bait n wait time that it takes.... Have you been out yet? I'm hoping to wet my line in about 3 weeks ......my spot is open but temp is not there yet
