  1. COMING SOON!!

This years printed edition is on it's way and hoping to have it in the mail in the next week or so.

Please make sure you update your membership mailing address if it has changed as once I get the list from Willem this is what I will be working off.

    Thanks,

    Dean

  2. If the fish is stick in a solid snag (log, rock etc) then changing the angle sometimes works but failing that slacken off the line and put the rod down. It may take 10-20 minutes but sometimes the fish will swim out of their own accord.

With weed, the fish generally bury their heads unless you've allowed the fish to run through the weed bed, which is a much harder prospect. In the first instance, keep the rod high and apply some pressure, but don't double the rod over! If you keep the rod high with a bend in it, the fish will usually start to move although again this can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes. If this doesn't work put the rod down and slacken off and wait. If you can get the fish moving, even slowly you will usually land them.

The only other option that works well is to go out in a boat directly above the fish, at which point they are easy to bring to the surface.

Other things to bear in mind when fishing in weed; use braid as it cuts through the weed better, use a drop off lead system as this will help stop the lead getting jammed in the weed, fish with a fairly tight drag so you don't allow the fish to bury itself in the weed, keep the rod high when playing the fish, use strong hooks as you may have to apply more pressure.

Usually, if you have to apply a lot of pressure you will lose the fish more times than not. Sometimes patience is a much better option.

    The Logo

The 2016 Big 4 Logo will be attached for download below as PNG and PDF on September 30th.

You are required to submit 1 photo of each fish you catch along with it's weight. This photo MUST show the angler holding the fish, a printed 2016 Fall Big 4 logo, and your scale.

Remember, the star of these photos is you with your fish. Your photo may end up in a magazine! The logo and scale just need to be there somewhere to prove you have them. They can be anywhere in the photo as long as they are identifiable. The best way to manage this is to tape the logo to your scale:
    scale.jpg

    ex3.jpg

The Big 4 Logo is only 3.75 x 2.75." This is the size of many state/provincial fishing and hunting licenses. You can Also put your logo in a standard license holder from any tackle shop, and pin it on your clothes, or even your unhooking mat.

Just try not to put the logo in your mouth, that's not going to look good in a magazine!

  8. It's with a certain measure of sadness that I have taken the decision to step down as NACA Editor In Chief.

Unfortunately, after a little over 2 years work and family commitments are now at a level where I can no longer find time to fulfill the role. In the past my job has been more flexible and it has allowed me enough time to put the time and effort that NACA deserves. Hopefully, I've done a decent job with the Editions I've overseen. I've been very lucky to have Sal on board as well, and also a great list of contributors.

I'm working on getting NACA 2016 Q2 put together in the next month, so with any luck there will be someone out there who wants to take up the reigns and move NACA forward.

The parameters are all in place; with NACA online via ISSUU. Sal, as mentioned is still on board and I am more than willing to help with questions or information for anyone who is interested in the role; such as overview, timelines, process etc. Here are some of the responsibilities:

Theme and Overview of each Edition (I aim for 80-130 pages per Online Edition)

Securing articles and material (Via CAG and requests)

Editing Articles and Pictures (into a format Sal can work with)

    Coordinating with Sal on material

Coordinating with Sal on final NACA and Editing/changes

Posting links, pictures and information on social media

Coordinating Yearly Printed Edition (printing and mailing contacts are all in place)

I'm sure there are a few other things included, but PLEASE DO NOT BE PUT OFF by the responsibilities. If you have the passion you can drive the magazine forward in the direction YOU wish it to go. It is a lot of work but it is VERY rewarding to see the final product.

Again, if anyone is interested please let myself or the BOD know and I'll help in anyway I can.

when or how do we get our prize i see some individuals have but i haven't received anything or a message. thanks in advance

I did send you a message at the conclusion of the contest and we followed up with the vendors, but some take longer than others to process.

I emailed Simon at Carpkit so hopefully he sends you over the details of how to claim your prize.

  10. Please note that I have edited this post as it was pointed out that some of the fish had been added to the leaderboard AFTER June 15th. These fish were not eligible for the competition and were therefore removed from the prize pool.

Thanks to everyone who took part

Well, you have until June 15th to recover and go catch a few minnows... And of course, I'm sure that Dean has a collection of big fish that he didn't disclose yet, so my lead is all relative... Come on, guys, it's all very beatable. I'm not finished though.

Not sure I will be on the Leaderboard Jerome! I have caught 4 or 5 thirties but I didn't take pictures with the logo. I still have a couple of sessions to come in the next 10 days so who knows?

Not just post counts were lost but hundreds if not thousands of actual posts and all the info and tips they contained were lost. By an unnecessary and unneeded forum upgrade that the membership didn't ask for or approve of.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about!! Willem explained that we DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE with the upgrade. It was not unnecessary and voting would not have made a change to the fact it had to be done. I'm sure he would have preferred to have kept it as was, instead of the upgrade which took days, maybe even weeks to complete!! It's great to see how supportive you are of the volunteers. Thanks to Willem we kept as much data as was possible.
