Just so that everyone is aware. The CAG Big 4 is based on the 'Honor System'.
However, in cases where weights are questioned we do ask for supporting pictures and the originals. If the fish are then judged as way off the weights claimed they will be removed and a refund issued if requested.
I am following up at the moment so please keep everything civil. Thanks, Dean

Good luck to everyone competing.

I don't suppose the badge pdf will be made available earlier than Saturday. Myself and a lot of Midwest anglers are travelling up to Michigan early Friday for the Midwest regional. If it comes out on Saturday we won't be able to print it out to use on Sunday.
I'll try and get it up for Saturday if we have it ready

The BIG 4 SPRING Competition starts this Sunday (May 1st). Be sure to register in time and print out your badge for a chance to win over $800 in prizes.

Very generous of you, Dean.
Whatever I win (because I *will* win something!) will go to the first top-ranking non-BoD member who didn't get any prize.
Thanks Jerome. Please specify which category (Big 4, Big common, Big mirror or Big buff/grassie) as there will be several people who qualify for this otherwise.
-
Thanks Franky. Added to the top of the thread
-
I'll get this started off by pledging the following:
Brookesy:
1) If I win one or more of the categories (I know I'm being optimistic) I will donate ALL prizes to the highest Junior Finisher (Under 18 years of age) in each of the categories.
2) $50 Fox Tackle to the winner of the 'Big Mirror'.
3) 2 Tickets to a New England Revolution (soccer) home game to the highest finisher in the Overall Big 4 who is from one of the New England States (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut)
Franky:
A dozen carp flies to the heaviest 'FLY CAUGHT' carp
-
We are still securing donations and prizes but here is a rough overview of the prizes available. I will be adding prizes as they come in, so please keep checking the thread. Please remember that it is the winners responsibility to pay for shipping expenses for any of the prizes won (i.e. $50 voucher can be redeemed but winner will be required to pay for their own mailing costs).
THANKS SO FAR TO THE FOLLOWING BIZ SUPPORTERS WHO HAVE DONATED PRIZES:
Big Carp Tackle, Saxon Tackle, Carpkit, The Boilie Roller and Trilogy Baits.
New this year will be a pledges thread. This will include any CAG member who wants to pledge a prize (doesn't have to be fishing only) to any of the categories. For instance I will pledge any prizes that I win (if any) to the top Junior (under 18 years of age) finisher in the overall Big 4 competition. I will also pledge $50 of Fox tackle to the winner of the Biggest common prize. This was a great success at the CCC and gave other members a way to offer additional prizes.
I will set this thread up once the competition begins.
Good luck to everyone entering.

The Logo
The 2016 Big 4 Logo will be attached for download below as PNG and PDF on April 29th.
You are required to submit 1 photo of each fish you catch along with it's weight. This photo MUST show the angler holding the fish, a printed 2016 Spring Big 4 logo, and your scale.
Remember, the star of these photos is you with your fish. Your photo may end up in a magazine! The logo and scale just need to be there somewhere to prove you have them. They can be anywhere in the photo as long as they are identifiable. The best way to manage this is to tape the logo to your scale:
The Big 4 Logo is only 3.75 x 2.75." This is the size of many state/provincial fishing and hunting licenses. You can Also put your logo in a standard license holder from any tackle shop, and pin it on your clothes, or even your unhooking mat.
Just try not to put the logo in your mouth, that's not going to look good in a magazine! -
I'm just finalizing a few areas and then I will post ALL of the Spring Big 4 details by April 15th.
At that point, registration will begin with the contest running for 6 weeks:
2016 Big 4 - May 1st through June 15th
We will have the following categories:
Big 4 Champion - 1st Place to 10th place
Big Common
Big Mirror
**NEW** Big Buffalo or Grass Carp (this is for all of our Southern, West and Mid-West states who have a greater percentage of these species in their waters)
Prizes are being gathered at the moment, so hopefully we will have a good selection from our Biz Supports as well as $500 that CAG has already pledged to the prize fun.
I will also be looking to use a number of the pictures and hopefully a cover picture for the Summer NACA so please make sure you take plenty of pictures of your big fish captures.
Finally, we will also look to set up a separate thread with additional pledges. For instance I will off $50 of Fox goodies for anyone over the 150lb barrior for their Big 4. I will also offer 2 tickets to the New England Revolution (soccer) to the top finisher from New England. This is a good way to get some extra interest and prizes and was well used at last years CCC.
ALL FOR ONLY A $10 ENTRY FEE

I'll be putting something out in the next day or so

The reason Dave Pickering catches so many carp is more down to location. Simply put, he knows his swims/areas very well and presents baits the fish want to eat. If anglers spent 90% of their efforts on location and watercraft you would see results go through the roof. Do carp sometimes have a preference for a certain color or flavor? Yes. However, in the vast majority of cases unless you are competing with other anglers (where bait will have a greater importance) you'd be better off sticking to something you have confidence in and spending your time locating the fish.

Looking forward to seeing everyone catch at this years ATC. I will be including a review of the ATC in the next NACA and would love as many photo's and information as possible. Any scenic or catch pictures can be sent to naca@carpanglersgroup.com
I would also like to feature the winning pair with an exclusive interview. Obviously, I do not know who this will be until the event is over but I will contact the winning pair once the winners are announced.
Good luck to everyone taking part.

Thanks Dean
Care to share the source for the info? I have looked all over the MA DFW site without success.
Iain
It's not easy to find on the MA DFW website but a google search got me to the correct link. I remember seeing it in the yearly printed Fishing and Hunting magazine so new it would be there somewhere.
-
It's hosted by Big Carp Tackle. Just go to their facebook page to get the details

June 4th and 5th are the free fishing days for 2016

Where's the new content button??? How do I find anything to read??? Go thru every thread?
Just click on ACTIVITY
As Willem stated, this was not a choice. Thanks to Willem who is spending a considerable amount of his own time completing all of these updates.

It arrived today and it looks great. Dean, that Mirror Carp on page 28 is the nicest one I've ever seen. What a beauty!
Thanks MeshuggahCarp. I'm lucky that I get to fish for lots of great looking mirrors.

I have been out of the loop. when did the magazines start shipping out? I never received any magazines being a member. I thought it stopped lol
We had a one off edition 2 winters ago but moving forward we will do a yearly printed edition each winter. They were mailed out a week ago via bulk mail and should be arriving over the next few days to current members
-
Does this go to every member?
It was mailed to all current members as of the date I sent the list to the mailing house. As long as your membership was not expired you should get a copy. If there was a slight gap (less than a month) in your membership I am sure we can send you out a copy. If you don't see it by early next week just email cagstaff@carpanglersgroup.com and we'll get one out to you.
-
What do you use to grind stuff down brookesy?
You can use a food processor for the finer grade stuff but for the bigger or harder particles I use a coffee grinder. A bit labor intensive but does the job.
-
Yup, got mine too. Terrific job from Dean and Sal.
Question: who wrote the article about the various 'carp' species?

Just as an addendum to the rules:
The CAG Big 4 Contest is based on the HONOR SYSTEM.
All fish submitted are weighed by the anglers and we expect the weights to be accurate and honest.
In cases where we receive complaints or questions over the weight of the fish posted, we will then follow-up with the following:
