Thanks Bill, I appreciate your explanation.

First time for me, what is discovery month?

After getting blanked for about 4 hours and feeding more turtles than I care to remember in my usual spot, I switched to a shallow(1 1/2 - 2 feet) area across the lake where I saw a few carp breaching the surface. I hooked this 18lb 10oz common the old fashion way. I used sweet corn on a #4 wide gape hook over a small area baited with more sweet corn and Nash micro pellets. Free line with a small shot a foot or so up the line.

Welcome, just started carpin last season myself. I'm not in your immediate area(about 2hours south) but would be happy to share any info that I have learned with you. I'm in Eastchester.

Awesome fish, great job!

I fish at a small lake in New Rochelle and I saw a guy do the same thing last season. He caught it and cut/cleaned it up right at the side of the lake. I wonder if that's against NY f&g regulations?

Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing.

I said it in an earlier comment, put a spot in everyone's profile setup for an opt out of a printed news letter. That way members can choose and if they wish to change their settings they can do so at any time.

Congrats on your PB!

Just a suggestion -
If you are 100% set on this quarterly newsletter why not get it started with a PDF version? You will run into some snags guaranteed and this will help you get the print version going sooner rather than later.
I'm of 2 opinions on this-
1) As a CAG member Id prefer a e-version and let CAG keep the print costs and mailing costs- (Assuming there is a opt in/out option) Plus you can email it to a fishery agencies, media, database very easy and cost effectively.
2) As a supporter of the "Worlds greatest Sportfish" and CAG, it would be nice to send something out to potential new CAG members in our tackle orders. I'd estimate right now less than 10% of our orders go to CAG members. IF CAG is to be the voice of Carp Angers and the Spokesperson of protection of Trophy Carp(Objective 3) it makes sense the membership numbers have to increase.
Good Luck to all those involved in getting this project up and running.
I agree, if a PDF is required to be done before printing, make that available as well. It would be in color also which would be nice. The printed copy could be mailed out as well, or make it by choice like so many companies do to save paper. It could be added in our profiles; an opt out for mailing the newsletter.
Grass carp
in Beginning Carping
Posted
I recently moved and my new "home" lake is 5 minutes from my house. I have caught 16 grass carp so far ranging from 22lbs to the largest one at 49lbs 3ozs. All have been caught using a hair rig with artificial corn. I use a mix of oats, bread, and sweet corn which I ball up on my lead and then throw out several balls after I cast out. I fish in 2-4 ft of water 25-40 ft from shore. All have been caught between 7 and 10:00 in the morning as my fishing time is unfortunately limited.
