The 8th is good with me. Not excessively weedy especially by my house we swim right out front too. I am very friendly with my neighbors so I'm sure st least a couple won't mind us spreading out. I think my shoreline could accommodate 6 or 8 rods alone. Plus a few hundred yards from my place is a park with 3 fishing areas with benches. I will get some depth maps and lake info posted in here soon.

I work in New Ulm so skipping over to Mankato after work could be a plan. Got an exact spot or area? Also what did you use for bait? I've never fished for catfish before???
-
I'll check and see.
CT on side note .. CCC is coming up soon - it be a good idea if few of us can go there as group ? . I plan to .. and 1 more person from here is probable ... check ur dates and see if u can make it..

Don't even need a boat they are right off the end of my dock. My slingshot broke on me so I've been baiting by throwing out handfuls of bait. Works fine ;-) I got some baked and frozen chum blocks I made gonna chuck a couple in tomorrow see how they work.

I've heard Mille Lacs has 40's and 50's in it.
My lake and my other fave lake I've got 20's in one but at both I've been broken off by bigger fish and I use 25lb braid. I've pulled an 18lber through 50 yards of weeds and lily pads and a 16 lber out if a submerged tree snapping off finger sized branches. So I can't imagine the monsters that broke me off in open water.

I hear that all the time, Minnesota river, Mississippi river, even the crow river. Do you realize those river meander through the whole damn state! I need coordinates, specific spots.
I'm all about catching fish, I have spots (including my back yard) that I'm guaranteed to catch fish. With my limited free time prospecting unknown waters has little appeal to me.

I would really like to try catching Buffalo and big catfish. I just don't know where to go.

My future bro in law has a cabin on an island in minnetonka.

I work the weekend of the 25th. Perhaps we should shoot for a date in August? I have the weekends of the 8th and the 15th free.
-
Ummm no? You are not even a CAG member and is this your first post? We know nothing about you.
I'm afraid as a member of the MN fishery I cannot support you being State Chair.

Doesn't look like I got much interest Jaffar. My other days off for July: the 29th 30th 31st.
Since you are the only Minnesotan who regularly communicates with me you pick the day(s) and that will be the date.
Finally got the dock finished on the 4th. Damn carp were taunting me jumping all around us while we were busy working!

For the month of July I have free the weekends of the 11th or the 19th. We can do either Saturday or Sunday or both. We can also do an overnight and fish at night as well. I have a couple 2 man tents and a super giant tent folks are welcome to use to camp out if they want. I'll provide a big BBQ for a lunch and dinner and pancake breakfast if needed. If we'll have enough people a keg of beer as well.
Our cabin is on Lake Marion which is in between Hutchinson and New Ulm. It's about an hour away from the cities. Carp breach right off shore of the cabin we have a big dock and a lot of shore to fish from. We also within walking distance of some other swims. The lake also has largemouth bass, pike, walleye, crappie and catfish. I should have a fishing boat available as well.
So let me know what you all want to do and we'll make it happen.
This is a 16lb we caught on our first cast here. (Had something bigger break off 25lb braid)
-
So a little background. Bought a fixer upper cabin on a lake. A lake with Carp in it. The shore front also needs work as a giant tree has fallen into the water out front.
Upon our first cast we hooked a good fish. My future son in law had the rod. Unused to carp the fish got into the tree. Robert having boots and jeans on was unable to enter the water to do battle I in my shorts and sandals however was.
Thank goodness for braid! I scrambled down the bank and hauled the fish out of the tree and we had a 16 lb prize in our first carping session.

Yes looking at doing a fish in here at my house on Lake Marion here in July. Will post the date soon.
I'm also interested in fishing minnetonka my future brother in law own a place on an island there. I've heard they got big ones there.
-
I think said bad hooks. I was just suggesting a line change as well.
As far as good decent price hooks I got the ones BCT sells under the Ambush name,Teflon coated, nice hooks.
-
How cheap were they??? I've got cheap hooks, now by cheap I mean not Nash or Korda prices. The only time I've seen ANY hook bent like that in my life was when pulling the hook free of a snag.
You really need to try braid. I had a tough time keeping fish of brush and other snags. Mono stretches which is beneficial a lot of the time. But not when trying to turn a big fish. Once I went to 25lb braid
I can control fish a lot better. If where you fish is like down here weeds are a problem. Braid cuts right through the weeds.
Looking at the weekend of the 11th for the fish in what do you think?
-
There has been times the carp were breaching on parts of the lake that we couldn't cast to and we came back with the boat.
-
Very cool!
See for me a huge part of the fun of carp is NOT having to fish out of a boat. I use a boat for 100% of my other angling. It's a process, get the boat ready, make sure you have gas and the batteries are charged. Hook up to the truck. Drive the boat landing. Launch the boat. Then do it all in reverse when you're done fishing. Not to mention the on water boat activities. Driving to your spots. Picking up and putting down the trolling motor. Using the plotter and the fish finders.
To just grab my gear and a lawn chair, drive to a swim (step out my back door now ) and fish, sitting there in my lawn chair is well.... refreshing and feels very lazy and unstressfull.

I'm thinking if I make this loose and soupy this would be a a good cloudy spod mix for zigging.
-
No worries we'll be doing a fish in sometime in July.
-
We caught another 10lber and lost another yesterday. Noticed we were getting fouled on weeds 1\2 the time. Got my zig rigging stuff in the mail today can't wait to try it out.
Well after painting the 48' steel dock frame, picking up 96 eight foot pressure treated deck boards and 15 ten footers, then removing umpteen million rusty bolts and separating the 4 sections of dock tomorrow we will attempt to get them into the water and float them then do the decking. Wish me luck if I get done in time I may be able to fish.

Certainly cuts down on the setup time

Agreed x3 they say cut the line and hope for the best.
