  1. I like to use a tripod like the $8 one that Catastophe1017 recommended, but really the simplest solution here is to use a self-timer photo app. I use one called Photo Timer+, and it allows you to choose number of pictures, the delay until the first picture is taken and the interval between the pictures. When I have a carp on the mat I'll set the delay to 20 seconds, and have it take 3 pictures 5 seconds apart. Press the button, and take your time!

Been doing some research on states in my area...

NJ: May/June. Best fishing time Apr 1- May 15.

PA: Same as NJ, exception Allegheny mountains / Lake Erie Apr 15- June 1

DE: May. Best fishing time March 15 - May 1.

NY: (Maybe late may?) June. Best fishing time April 15 - June 1. Exceptions Lake Ontario, St Lawrence river and Adirondack mountains, May 1 - June 15.

OK, now I have a better idea about NJ/PA. In smaller lakes and rivers the spawn occurs around mid-May, but in the big river systems it often doesn't begin until the end of May. Ideal fishing time is still April 1 - May 15/20 though.

  3. Calling all carp anglers in NJ, PA, DE (and possibly further)! Get ready for an action-packed fish-in on May 1 in southern NJ! Come spend the day with friends, fish, and have a whole lot of fun! PM me for the location, there's room for around 20 anglers.
If it's anything like last year, you won't want to miss it!

  4. I might do a complete article on this session, as it's the culmination of over five years of hard work...

After years and years of searching, I found a winter holding area on a river I frequently fish. About a week ago, I was blessed to find a second! I decided to give this new spot a try on January 1. The fog was eerie while I set up, it looked like I was fishing off the end of the world! After only a few minutes my left rod screamed off. I picked it up only to discover that the drag on my reel had broken! I had to handline the fish for half the fight... after many near-losses, my first ever wild river fantail carp was in the net, and a beautiful 20lb specimen at that! After a few more hours of fishing I was also surprised with another amazing carp, a thick 28lb brute! Now, all I need is a January 30+!

That's a surprise!  With that amount of experienced carp anglers on the St Lawrence giving it all they had, you'd think there would have been some mid 30's (at least) sprinkled in there.

From what I’ve been told the significant fishing pressure on the St Lawrence has really reduced the number of 30s and 40s. The average weight of all carp that were caught was around 15 or 16 pounds, when the St Lawrence used to be much closer to 20 years ago.

25,964 dead carp were removed from a SMALL portion of the river however the affected area was 250 kms in lenght.

Do you have any information on this die off? Specifically, how small of an area are we talking? I've been trying to get an estimate of carp population densities in large rivers, this could provide an approximate figure.

  7. Hi everyone! Our PA State Chair Domenic Firestone is planning a Fish-in for West PA sometime in June, either June 19-20 or June 26-June 27. More details to follow soon! Contact Domenic if you’re interested in attending.

That couldn't be further from the truth. The more we promote catch and release with an incentive IMO will save big fish. No one is giving away their honey holes on here. Its up to the individual to keep landmarks out of the picture too. Join us!

I'm confused, are you saying that including the state of capture in the photo will reveal someone's secret spot?

States are large, and putting the state of capture alone won't give away secret spots.
