Carp Anglers Group Forums

I met up with Tony O today to fish a local lake in Raleigh. Us NC CAG members located in the Triangle area have been on the search for a quality carp water in the Raleigh-Durham area with fish bigger than 12 lbs (posing quite a problem, lol), and the lake we were fishing today were one of the candidates. Tony and I set up and we enjoyed the morning.

Around noon, a very nice kid from the NCAngler forum came and joined us. He had contacted me about carp fishing and wanted to give it a shot. I ran down the basics of euro rigs, showed him how to tie a hair rig, and tried to explain paylake rigs (thats the way Tony fishes). After 6 hours of catfish mayhem and no carp, Tony had to run and do some chores so the budding young carper and I picked up and went off in search of some grassers. After driving around, we found a nice little pond in a subdivision with a bunch of little grass carp around the 10lb mark. Perfect. I told the kid to rig up his abu with a plain hook and we freelined bread out. In 2 hours, between turtles and catfish, we got 4 grassers, the biggest being about 13 or 14.

The kid is hooked now, and he cant wait to chase some commons and mirrors. He is wise beyond his years and a very good angler as it is...I am secretly hoping the carp bug bites him BAD! :D

Good work, Santosh. And now we know as well that there is at least a single solitary common in 'catfish central'.

We can have fun finding out this summer, between you, Mike, Tony, our new young keenie, Paul and ancient Tim - if there are any of it's friends there.

At least some decent grassers to keep us all busy while we explore the place

Definitely! I heard Paul had some good luck this morning at Crabtree before a couple of people walking their dogs ruined the swim
