If There Are 50's Carp Around?

Recommended Posts

I met a angler who "fish for everything what bite" and he showed me a picture of his buddy who caught this monster from one of the Wisconsin water last year:

post-4522-0-88752800-1312638091_thumb.jp

scale showed 55 lbs !!!

Fish was caught from shore on the rod with nightcrawlers on the hook.

Yeah hell, we have a many 50 lbs carp in our waters :)

ps. I will be exploring this water during this fall. I hope to meet this guy as a guide ;)

The dorsal fin and scaling looks all wrong, are we sure this is cyprinus? If so, certainly not 55 pounds, take a look at the girth of the tail and width of his hands in comparison, not to mention the span between his hands is not very wide in comparison to the width of the hands, his arms are fully extended as well. The fish clearly doesn't have the girth to male up for the lack of length. Just my two cents, I can't tell you how many times I've seen pictures an heard stories from non carp anglers about 50+'s and then I see said pics and they are clearly not that large, and then show them pictures of 30's and their jaws drop, then I show them the differences. The human mind when geared toward fishing has a natural instinct to exaggerate, especially when you have never caught a carp, or one of any size. But again and I'm sure many will agree with me that this fish surely isn't the 55 pounds it's claimed to be, take a look at a few threads on uscp about the 67 and mid 50 killed by bow, no joke there, both fish were heald by 2 guys and the fish still looked massive. Also look back at scotts 47, and 50.

picture was taken from picture (printed copy) from wall from bait shop by lake. owner showed this picture and said that was the biggest carp caught from this water what he has seen.

printed copy was poor quality.

when I first time see picture I thought it is ... tuna :-)

I think it is not look like buff but maybe I am wrong. I am not buff specialist.

anyway big great fish from our waters where not too many even 30's come out from water. I will take even 50 lbs buff :)

Paul,

I cannot say for sure if that is a common carp but it really doesn't matter. Because there are 50s in your area! Up north around Minnesota, Michigan, Canada, Wisconsin, and in general just that whole area has many undiscovered swims/waters where 50s are swimming around at this very moment and mark my words, they will eventually be caught by carp anglers in the future! As a theoretician and as Phone's apprentice  , I have passionately argued this point in a recent thread but I stopped talking about it because I started to offend some people.

I will now share with you three +50 lb carp from MN and MI. These 3 are certainly not the only ones up there but they do serve as good solid examples of what is possible in those waters. Unfortunately all 3 were violently murdered :(

1) The first one was this year, killed at 55.5 lbs: http://www.startribune.com/sports/outdoors/126222563.html

2) The 2nd one is claimed to be 84 lbs but it's visited a taxidermist and maybe the guy didn't replicate it correctly....regardless of the exact weight, it's definitely a massive mirror carp and is at a minimum 50 lbs.

3) This next one was in MI at 52 lbs and this is the most disturbing video I have ever seen so I will not be posting this link directly. To view the video, go to youtube and type: Huge 52 Pound Lake Carp Gets Speared. Again I must warn you, this is the most sickening anti-carp video out there

Looking at the mouth, head, the way the lateral line curve on the side and the dorsal, it looks like my albino bigmouth buff I posted. Just with color  . Printed pic's tend to make fish look darker and mess with the color after a while.

As for the weight, mine was 11LB 3oz. Distance between pelvic & anal fin tell me it is a big fish, 50+ .... I don't know.

Josh,

I sent you the link to the 52 lb'er from MI. This is the one link I will not post directly on this forum because it is the most horrific carp killing video I have ever seen.

Ken,

Yeah I think it is that one....but I'm not 100% sure because I haven't seen it in a while and don't ever plan on watching it again.
