Lots of credit card fraud recently

Spoon

Question

Several carp anglers (including myself) have had their credit cards used fraudulently within last few weeks or days. I found out about this from Facebook. I had not used my card for a few months. Is it a coincidence that several carp angler were hit in a short time period, or has someone hacked CAG or an online tackle store?

yeah my card got hit a little over a week ago by someone in the UK, it was some dating site they joined

4 charges for 49.99 each, 2 went through before my bank stopped it, I thought maybe a tackle shop got hacked but I dont use that carp for tackle purchases, I do it for here though, hmmm

My debit card got deactivated because of that device they put onto the ATMS to steal your card info. Luckily they weren't able to get any money or info.. I heard its like a month long process to get reimbursed.

I just noticed yesterday that my Chase card was used over the weekend for $900+ in fraudulent charges. Fortunately, I caught it just 24-48 hours after the unauthorized purchases, so, other than the hassle of getting a new card, I'm OK. Does anyone know what website/vendor might have gotten compromised?

I got hit Friday during the ATC. While verifying a catch with another angler (a beautiful 37#+ beast), my wife called and told me our card had been used to purchase $250 from Sears.com and there had been another attempt at over $1,000 for Best Buy. The card company caught it and stopped the transaction. It is curious that so many of us have been hit within a short period of time.

I wonder if any of the card companies are aware of this coincidence?

Just checked my cards....I'm a "paypal only" for online purchases...no unauthorized charges. I was really concerned as I've made many purchases in the last couple months from Wackerbaits, BigCarpTackle, and CarpKit. Sorry to hear of the problems and sure hope it gets solved.

Just curious...has everyone who mentioned problems recently started or renewed CAG membership????

I recently renewed my CAG membership, but I have also bought from tackle shops with my credit card so I don't want to go pointing fingers yet. I try to use Paypal when I can but I don't remember what I've actually used my credit card on. I will check into tonight.

Wow this thread was pretty surprising to see, considering I just got off the phone with my bank about fraudulent activity with my card. All online shopping stuff (flowers, car parts, dating sites, etc.) luckily for me they were greedy and all the charges were over my credit limit. I wonder if the security of one of our tackle vendors has been jeopardized. I most recently purchased from carp kit but I have also ordered from wacker and big carp in the last month or two.

Mine was used on Friday. Sears.com was one of the purchases, the only one that almost got processed. 12 others were rejected by my bank.

That includes a Payless shoes in kansas, match.com, overstock.com, best buy and others.

The Payless showed as kansas, but that could just be their corporate location..

They tried to take me for $2500+. Canceled card Saturday night though. It was my debit card they were trying to use, but without the pin.

GD IT!!! This thread prompted me to check with my card company! Sure enough the MF'ers got me too. Escort Services, Electronics, Porno Magazines. I got screwed and never even got a kiss!

Got the card company on it now!

Not pointing fingers at anyone but I made purchaces with that card online at Wacker, BCT, Resistance and Shop Bettys and CAG Store those are the only carp related purchases I have made recently. Since all of us carp fisherman/wimmin have been hit there might be a possibility someone hacked into one of the sites/companys I mentioned???

I killed my card and now have to deal with fraud investigation!

I did buy stuff from the CAG Store and bought my girlfriend a Membership here!

Possum, you finding a way out of your escort and porno charges I see lol.

Really it sucks and is terrible. Don't think it is a coincidence. It may not matter if purchases are recent or old if the info is found we are screwed pretty much.

The fact that purchases on mine (dating sites/sears) lines up with others makes me confident its connected.

Hmmm . . interesting thread. I, too, use Paypal whenever I can but some carp related companies just don't offer it. The fraudulent charges on my card ranged from $1 at ebay to $50 to $100 at Fathead, NFL shop, Crocs, Body Works, and Dominoes Pizza. However, all were online, not in-person charges. It's becoming more and more obvious, though, that we were hit because of purchases made at a carp related site. I don't know how long our card data remain in a vendor's system, so it's tough to know where the problem lies.

I imagine prepaid and through paypal you are pretty safe but I have nothing to base this on other than vague knowledge.
