Lake Rowena?

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all. Just curious as to whether or not anyone here knows if there are carp inside of Lake Rowena. It is located in Ebensburg, Pa. I will be here on the holiday (July 4th) and was thinking of getting a few hours or half day on the water baring the time I have available. Is anyone familiar with the area and knowledgeable on this lake?

Thanks Accord. If any of you are around, maybe we can work something out where we can hook up for a small session.

Excited to hear more info. I appreciate the interest in the thread.

It is a pretty small lake of around 20ish acres (guessing) but has a good head of common carp. You will need a trout stamp though just so you know because it is a trout approved water and they stock it regularly. Your everyday baits will catch there. Average fish is in the 8-12lb range but I have heard of fish into the low 20's being caught there. I know there are some very large catfish in there as well meaning channels. When you first pull in there is a a point to the left that extends and that has been decent to fish or down at the other end near the bathrooms and boat launch. Keep in mind there is only shade near the point so if it is a hot day you will surely feel it. You are not allowed shelters in PA as well so keep this in mind. Any questions let me know and I will see if I am off work and maybe swing out. I am around 45 minutes from there.

Here are some biologist reports from the PFBC (PA Fish & Boat Commish) website.........

Thanks for all the info gents. I do appreciate it. The session will likely have to be during the night or in the early morning hours of the fourth after the misses and the family are down to bed. I assume night fishing is allowed? Can I get a one day PA license including trout for a reasonable price? I'd love to meet some fellow CAGers up there if you are all available. If anything, this info alone is invaluable.

Oh wow, so that's a bit steep. Don't know if the wife is gonna allow me to swing that or not...

Not even sure how I'd be able to give an excuse for that. Lol. Be one thing is a 30 + or 40+ was swimming around in there, but for what I'm seeing I doubt she's going to go for it. Will have to find a way to breach that discussion haha.

There is a campground up the road about 5 miles that has carp in it as well and requires no license if that is of interest to you.

Is it one of those reservoirs? Good shore access? Similar size? I would be down for something like that. As long as it's like within' a 10 mile radius, I'm good.
