I have caught fish after a light baiting within an hour. On the other hand, I baited at my last session about 24 hours before fishing and caught one catfish. The next day, we baited before leaving the venue and baited before getting our rods in the water. We did good that day.

how long do you wait to fish?

I wait 24 hours. I have found that, in the big impoundments of the West, it generally helps to do as much prebaiting as possible over a multiple day period. I toss about 15-20 lbs of range cubes each prebaiting session.

I fish a river and I chum with corn, I dump the water from the corn in the river to attract fish from downstream. I chum for three days in advance of when I plan on fishing. But you should be sure your spot kolds fish, my spot has deep water just out from were I cast my bait.
