  1. My first post, Hello everyone. I stumbled across this topic and was intrigued by it. I live in the state of Indiana and mainly fish the Ohio river but also fish lakes. I always fish with Boilies and have my hands full keeping two rods in the water most of the time on the river, slower takes on the lakes but the carp are larger. I have used method feeders with various recipes and was only catching smaller carp. I do pre bait before I cast a line with a batch of sweat corn, oatmeal and chic peas, sometimes I will add rice to the mix and maybe some peanuts as well. On special occasions I will also pre bait with boilies. There is a difference in Boilies, how there made and with what ingredients there made with. In the spring and fall I use different boilies than I do in the summer. I also use different sizes as well. I am no expert by no means, but I do catch a lot of Big Carp and last weekend I was trying out a new boilie and had my new hook I was also trying out get almost straightened out, operator error tho, In the excitement I grabbed the spool and applied instant drag. I knew it was a big fish the way it was ripping my line out. Went on to catch three lovely large commons with the new boilie as my hot summer boilies were not getting a bite. What works one place at one time of the year will not necessarily work at another or during a different season. Corn will catch big Carp, but most of the time its the smaller ones who get to it first. My river sessions are usually only 4 to 5 hours, its all I can handle after battling those big carp on the steep banks and landing and releasing them safely is a work out for this man. The double takes are another story. I do enjoy fishing the lakes more so because I can sit down in a chair and have  level ground to land the carp. Not as many takes but a much more enjoyable day. A fellow fisherman landed a 40 pounder at a lake I have just started fishing. Now that would make my day complete.
