  1. I can state, with all honesty, that my forehead is safe!

Congrats to him! Thanks for sharing...

PS, remind anyone of someone who swims to land carp?

    Scott,

Or bait up an area for that matter!

    Horace,

Great job. Sometimes we do touch lives without even knowing. You sir are what legends are made of.

  2. I can just picture you now--head long into a dumpster full of rotten and smelly garbag with just your feet sticking out.Coming out with a big smile on your face covered in maggots with your prize. :D:D:D:D Man some of the things we'll do in the name of carp fishing.

    Dave,

That is what makes this swap sooooooo special! :D

  3. John, sounds like a plan. When are you comming to the in'laws? If you give me a week notice I'll scout some extra spots.

Carpflyfisher, I went fishing with a guy here on the Mississippi. He had never fished for carp before and so he had never flyfished for them either by default. We fished some very active carp on the surface. I came close and lost some hook ups, but mostly ended up fishing subsurface.

This guy put on a Klinkhamer and caught his first carp EVER on a dry fly!

Eich, Yeah, you'd think they would encounter them for sure. Do you have a favorite sculpin pattern?

Eric, I'm going to start by trying muddler minnows, but came upon a find that is worth a try in my estimation. The site is www.hook.tv and if you click on techniques, go to page 3 at the bottom there is a two part video(s) giving sizes, charting colors and techinque of tying. Looks to be something worth trying. What do you think?

  4. Not exactly a terrestrial, but for surface feeding there are times on the Susquehanna River as well as the Conestoga River when the Mayfly hatch is so thick that you could litterally cut it with a knife. At that time almost any species in the river can be caught on the surface. That includes walleyes, catfish, panfish, carp, suckers, smallmouth bass, stripers, and even the occasional northern pike. Really quite a sight to see.

Got another question to throw out there too: Has anyone tried sculpin patterns for carp? This is an idea that I've been kicking around for about a year now. Just by the way a carp feeds you would think that they encounter these guys. Thoughts?

  5. Yes, Jake that is me! :D The variant is that for the body dubbing I used Dryer Lint. Lowell and I named the fly the DL Puke Fly.

Just regular dubbing with the rabbit fur-no loops-do not know how to do this. I'll have to learn!
