Had a 16 month consecutive streak with carp on the fly rod at one point. Really quite honored with that one accomplishment. Lately however I've been very limited to fishing tme due to work demands and it's been more months than I care to admit since I've even picked up the fly rod.

Somebody tell me the FFF image on the CAG site's front page is going to be a T-shirt...
I'm kind of hoping that it will be the logo for the award received for catching a fish before 6 AM. Monte Middleman and Jerome Moisand...

Welcome to the greatest group of carp fishermen gathered on one forum.

In my opinion you can make carp accustomed to eating a variety of things. There is one swim that I fish where I consistantly prebait with pineapple chunks. If this area is fished with the 10 mm imitation boilies in pineapple flavor you will be busy most of the day. Maize with the pineapple flavor works well too. I have pre baited with things like cooked peas and carrots. I believe the idea is to keep them in one area so they, (like cattle), become accostomed to feeding in that area on a variety of things. This in my opinion will give you the most success in the long run of things. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen.

Went fishing at Lake Shasta in California for a week on a houseboat and caught this carp but the Zebco scale only goes to 28lbs. We caught this carp on sweet corn. We also caught catfish - trout - salmon- bass but the carp are the best thing going as far as fun to catch. Can you please help me with a quess of how big the carp is.
Thanks
Jeff
It is funny that you ask that because I saw the same picture on another forum and the fish was asking how much we thought you weighed. Just kidding. A real nce fish. My guess would be a solid 30+. Congratulations.

Like Phil's answer a lot. Would also like to add that there are some other factors involved on each specific body of water. Those with a lot of boat traffic tend to be better at night when there is less boat traffic. There is one body of water that I fish where it is like a switch, when night comes you can only keep one line in the water. Just that busy.

You guys be safe down there. Looks to be treacherous. Your safety will be in our prayers.

Beautiful fish. A big congratulations.

Look for bubbles in shallow flats areas of the lake. This indicates feeding carp. You can also chum an area to attract carp. This should get you started.

anyone who has fished with you knows you are anything but an "average" angler!
Congrats on the much deserved award!
Thanks for the kind words Matt.
Brid - to try to answer your question it is kind of like what John Travolta said in "Urban Cowboy" about being a bull rider. You fill your mouth with marbles. Everytime you get cold you take a marble out of your mouth and throw it away. When you have lost all your marbles, you are then a seasoned FFF fisher-person. Seriously, it is just a whole lot of fun for me.

I do not know the individual or individuals to personally thank for sending me the 2009 "Scubs Doc" award for the FFF, so I am posting this in hopes that the people involved get the message. Whoever was in charge of sending this . Considering myself just an average angler, I am a bit amiss at winning anything. Again, a sincere thank you. It will look great with the plaques that I got for catching fish before 6 a.m. on January 1st (4 years in a row now). Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We've had a few storms move in and out very quickly in our area over the last week. Even some tornado warnings!
Nice looking venue Zach.

If you are using a floating line, let the spot where your leader meets the fly line be your indicator. I fish nothing but muddy water and I use this system, if its a system, and it works for me. When you twitch the fly back towards you, watch that spot. If it stops, side strike, if it keeps coming back towards you, repeat as needed.
Also try to key in on the carp's back if you can see it. There appears to be a thin black line down the middle, all fish seem to have this silhouette, and I'll watch for any movement other then the direction it was previously traveling.
The more you fish and try these techniques, the easier it'll get. I've taught them to my clients and a good buddy and he catches as many as I do now.
Very sound advice! I agree 100%.

About mid morning the Lightning Rod struck and I caught one of the ugliest carp in the lake! It looked as if it had been chasing parked cars!!
And actually caught up with a few! Nice report Horace. Bigbird sure makes that 12+ pound carp look like a guppy. Have a good 'un guys.
