Brid and Seamus, you guys are doing great. Good write up Brid and isn't it great to have your son as a net man! This is for both of you:

Can't understand why for his college it has N/A. Shouldn't all those Carp have a lot of schooling?

Don't give up Rick. When you blank things can only get better the next time.

Jerome,
As always an excellent effort. Thank you for that great tutoral. I tend to agree that one can learn a lot more watching successes and failures as it were rather than just seeing the successes. Thanks again for sharing another one of your gems. Hope that 2009 is a very productive one for you sir. Thanks for ALL that you do for CAG.

Nice fish! Congratulations.

I would be willing to say that one plate full was not the size limit either. Sounds like a good time as always. Good food and good fellowship. Doesn't get any better than that!

It is an honor to know royality, sir. Congratulations Horace. Nice of you to get it early so someone can feel accomplishment when they take the sultan's hat away from you!
All the best!

Sorry to hear that you guys blanked Horace. The chill factor up this way was in the single digits. Winds were 25-30MPH. We fished from midnight until 4AM. Hopefully I'll be able to tell the whole story later! (Still thawing out). Have a great 2009 sir!

Very nice fish there Simon. Thank you for sharing. Carp sure are a blast on light gear!

yeah with all the deadheads in the miss down there, it can be tricky trying to keep a fish from getting hung up on a stump. Looks like you'll have the tools necessary to take care of biz.
I find it interesting that a person with the online name of 9Weight is commenting on a 10weight question. (Just kidding!) Don't take me seriously, just a thougt on the lighter side!

Eich, you may wanna consider a spiderman pole as well
I would, but the step son has one already. He broke his Scoooby Doo on a carp (he's caught them up to 17 pounds on his Scooby Doo). My biggest on the Scooby Doo is 14 pounds, but my biggest accomplishment is catching a 9 pounder during the CAGI 3 years ago. It's a blast and a serious challenge. I've gotten wet more than once retreiving that rod!

Welcome! If you are ever in the Lancaster County area and want some ideas just PM me.

Here goes:
1. Challenge myself to catch more carp with the fly rod using the older "traditional" patterns invented in the early 1900's.
2. Never take blanking too seriously.
3. Always have as much or more fun fishing as I now do.
4. Cherish and enjoy time spent with family and friends.
5. Use my Scooby Doo gear more. (It really is a blast)!

Happy Birthday my BIC. Sorry that it's a day late!

WTG there Brid. So do you think this is something you'll pursue or was it a one time deal. Either way, you have that experience and isn't it a blast? As people on this forum told me after my first with the fly rod, welcome to the dark (or enlightened) side. Thanks for sharing.

Freelining bread works even better if possible.
That would be my approach too, or learn to fly fish.

Nice stuff there "Miggy"! Quite a year to remember and quite a nice way to put the memories together. Thanks for sharing with us mortals! Good luck in 2009 my friend!

I've been fortunate to land a nice mirror on a 3 wt. (thanks Lowell). However my vote goes to WB and his micro. That is just plain intense!

Snagging fish
in Carp on the Fly

Best advice that I can give in that situation is to watch the fish. Yes, as you say they are stacked up like a cord of wood. You should be watching for the one or two fish that are either in front, to the side, or lagging behind the others. Try to target an individual fish rather than placing your offering in the middle of all of them. It is tough, but you kind of have to tune yourself into the one or two fish that you think you have a good shot at catching. You will get more head turns than takes, but that is why it is called fishing and not catching.
As a side note if you ever have the chance to feed carp bread in a park or somewhere else, you can gain some valuable knowledge just by carefully watching. Hope that this helps a little.
