  1. Definitely a common carp.

The scale pattern suggests that it is a "muddler" (not a scientific term, but one that I believe was coined on this forum some time ago) - most of the scales seem to be of the "common carp" variety, but there are also spots on the body the seem to be a mix of "common" and "mirror" carp scales. Generally, in these spots the uniformity and alignment of the scale pattern is broken and in a more "random" pattern so to speak. These fish appear from time to time and are more common than we think. Depending on the "degree" of "muddling" they may not always be so easy to identify right off the bat.

As for the "bug eyes" - this too seems to be more common than not. Is it due to injury? age? disease? Not sure anybody has a proper answer for this, but many theories have been brought up on this forum in the past.

The coloration of the fish was also brought up in your post. Carp colorations vary quite a bit, and again many theories are out there as to why...diet? water clarity? genetics? etc.......

When all is put together though, the fish that you caught is most assuredly a common carp of the "muddler" variety.

  2. a. go to the local pet shop and buy up some crickets

    2. superglue a cricket to the back end of a hook

    c. attach said hook to line

    d. cast out into feeding carp with controller/bobber @ 2 - 3 ft above previously mentioned hook

    e. hang on!
