  1. I'm not too sure whether this post should be in pictures and stories, international, or here in the fly section, but here goes!

Today, I went back to the lake were I caught my first spotted sorubim cat (as some of you will remember from my last post). Again, it was quite a day!

I caught matrinxã, tilapia, channel catfish, a PB sorubim cat (22.6 lbs), and my old friend, the common, on the fly! My first on the fly in fact. I'm quite happy to finally say I've caught a carp on the flyrod. It is no record-breaker but it'll count, those little guys are scrappy. It fell for a artificial pellet floating near the margin. I caught two other commons free-lining hotdog (go figure). One of them was strikingly dark-colored. I didn't get the chance to snap a picture.

The sorubim was caught free-lining a piece of hotdog, again. The fight seemed to take forever. I'll attach some pictures of both fish.

    nice looking cat

  2. macfish here. Congratulations! Nice looking fish there, guys. I take it Lockport is a Warm Water Discharge (WWD)? Jonathan

no it is not water dont get below 49 in the winter......talked to a ole timer he told me 100 years oif fosil fuel :D thats what keeps her warm.. alot of barge traffic.

  3. Thanks guys! It was my first experience with this species. I've heard the hype about how strong they are and what great fighters they are, and I must say, I was not dissapointed!

Phone - I have yet to catch a full striper, but I can tell you...Hybrid/Wipers kick striper's ass! Lol. The guy who took me out has caught plenty of both, and says that hybrids will outfight Stripers anyway. In fact, he told me he was catching 4lb hybrids before he caught his first striper, and when he did finally get his first Striper, also a 4lb...it was dissapointing! Lol.

I wouldn't say that Hybrids will "out-fight" a carp, as it is a very different kind of fight, but I would say they probably equal the fight of a carp.

They are definitely just as strong, though, can strip just as much drag, and have as much stamina as a carp. Plus, they like to throw their bulky bodies sideways to make it even harder to move them. They head shake, they run every direction, they strip tons of drag at a whim, they're strong, sturdy, and bulky as hell.

I was catching them on light spinning gear with 6lb test, and they would run under the boat, and literally bend my pole into a complete U. It was awesome. Lol.

They're awesome fish. Can't wait to catch some more.

My three favorite species to catch are now, in no particular order:

    Smallmouth Bass

    Common Carp

    Hybrid Striper/White

    nice fish

  4. The "hole" at Lockport was still producing Monday afternoon. I was fortunate to land 15 carp (5-12 pound range) including my first mirror. Unfortunately, this was a spur of the moment fishing outing, and I did not have my camera with me for proof. By the way, my thanks to Mike, Cory, and whomever else made the venue even better by getting rid of those pesky trees and bushes!--Frank

    your welcome

  7. Well went out to state line again with my brother Ranger Ryan and we met up with Kingfisher. Fishing was slow for the silver fish when we got out there, but I didn't fish for them very long. I could here the Carp calling my name...........so I baited up the carp rods and it didn't take long for the first run.

Not a bad fish but kind of on the small size. A little while later there was another run..

    Well they're getting bigger.....

By this time we had missed some fish and broken off a few and Ryan gets into this nice brown, caught on a minnow under a float.

    DSC04695.jpg nice one good job

Here are a couple more carp that fell to sweet corn..

It was another great day fishing with my brother. I ended up going 6 for 8 on the carp, and Ryan went 1 for 2 plus his 8 1/2 lb Brown Trout.

  8. The cold weather and frost has made it difficult fishing lately, but I managed to hook a nice fish in the early hours of yesterday morning. A raging storm blew during the night, and this must of got a few big lumps feeding and moving over the baits. I had cast a 20mm Shellfish boilie at long range to fall just short of some submerged tree branches that were now underwater due to the floods of the nearby river bringing up the lake water-table. Here is a pick of the fish. A very deep-bodied fish with enormous frame. Not the usual streamlined long common carp that I prefer, but this mirror did put up a good fight during the storm:

    way to go tony :D

  9. me, my brothers, and my dad. went tip up fishing yesterday. we got there around eleven got set up at 12. not 5 minutes after we got set up we had 2 flags, 1 landed (my dad 2 lbs). 1/2 an hour later i got a smaller one 1 1/2 pounds. then my middle brother got his which we realeased. about a half an hour before we had to go i got a 6 1/2 pounder on my jig up post pic once i get home.

    nice fish :D
