  1. You hit on one of my favorite aspects of fly fishing for carp: going light. In addition to less encumbrance, going light provides another MAJOR advantage: less dinking around will persuade you to get out for that one-hour session... whereas if you had to jack around with 34 pieces of gear, put on waders, etc. you wouldn't do it. That is big for me, becuase I get a lot of short outings, and not many long ones. I think I might pack the lightest of all you guys though - here it is:

    Rod/reel (of course with line/leader/tippet)

two spools of tippet snapped together (3x and 4x in front pocket of pants)

one fly box (in other front pocket or coat pocket)

    lanyard with a few tools

    polarized glasses and hat

waterproof camera (in side pocket of pants)

NO to vest, waders and net... all major encumbrances and things that take too long to deal with.

[coincidentally, I did for the first time bring net on Saturday, because I wanted to land any sub-huge fish faster so I could get flies out again asap]

way to much like im going for a week vac :D

  2. Those interest in fishing the CCC, or just about any venue should check out Googleearth.com.

In the free version you may view and down load satellite photos of Burnham Harbor, and many other venues that clearly show deeper, (darker water) and a close examination will reveal the depth contours.

Print the photo and you will have a map for any peg you draw.

Used this for a recent family Muskie trip to a lake I had not fished. Had action from over 30 muskie during the dog days of August using the contour photo. ( landed 6 to 22 # but had 2 mid 30's on that spit the hook.)Try it. I've been using fishing maps since the 60's and have been a Buck Perry and NightCrawler secrets fisherman with great success. jb

PS. I'm winning this thing this year. jb hmmmmmmmm dont think i ever seen you catch a fish let alone a carp :D

  3. Happy Father's Day to you! I got a chance to give Baileybird some carp fishing tips at Lockport, knew that there was BBQ and cold beer at home, and when I got there, I did not even have to cut the grass! All in all, a great day.

  4. Sam Snow, Bill Hodge and I had planned to fish Miller Park lake today.  Bill was first to arive and befor Sam or I got there he had a huge fish on the bank.  We weighted it with two very good, quality scales and they agreed, it was 42 pounds 4 ounces.  Bill had the hot spot landing a 17 and a 26-15.  Here is a picture of the big one.  More tomorrow.

bill hodge you the man ................who needs to go to austin when 40s in your backyard :D
