  1. You hump inanimate objects when walking down to your swim, Kent??

Don't worry, Kent. The fish is still there and you're not old. If your name was Tom, I'd be worried.

You'll get her in March with 5lbs of spawn.

You have a one track mind. B)

  2. Must of really affected ya mate ,you told the story twice B) . Hopefully they will still be there tomorrow otherwise I must just say its "Heresay" LMAO B).Nice loooong fish mate that Venture raspberry ripple is definatly a worthy addition .

bugger ya already edited it lol

It double posted somehow. B) I edited it. I wish it was heresay!!!

  3. Yesterday I decided to try a spot that was near where I caught my PB in April. The waters are going down for winter and this spot is now reachable with a long hump of the gear. My good buddy Bri could not make it due to having family in from the UK. After almost dying, humping all my gear to this new swim, I set up for the day. I casted out my three rods and soon have a run, catfish, d@mn! I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I then get a second run, a carp, that takes me right into a snag and cuts me off. This happened for the next two fish. I have dicovered that I am fishing the snaggiest swim I have ever been in. Besides loosing fish I am loosing terminal tackle at a rate that I can't afford! I would cast out and get snagged! It was amazing. It seemed everywhere a fish took me there were snags. As a result I really had to horse the fish to keep them out of the snags. I ended up loosing some fish to hook pulls as a result and a few of those were 30lb+ fish I saw.

The runs started to come on a consistent basis. All the fish I caught were 20lb+ fish with two in the 30's. I have found a great holding spot, I think. Well, with this place the fish travel so much I will probably blank the next time out!

I landed so many fish and lost so many fish that I had little time for pics. I took some of the 30's but they came out like crap because I was always getting runs at the same time. My concern was for the fish not my pics. These were big fish that I want to catch on another day!

One of the things I love about fishing with Bri and others from overseas is learning about their homeland and the different terms we use. I always liked the terms, "mate" and "gutted." Well, today I really know what it is like to be gutted.

I was packing up at the end of the day and had everything away except for my two rods on the pod and my weigh sling which I was trying to dry out. I reel in my second to last rod and while doing this I get a run on the last rod. I lay into this fish and it takes off taking drag like no tomorrow. It also runs straight out and not towards any of the 7,000 snags I found throughout the day. After a strong battle that seemed to take forever, I finally see the fish. It is a massive carp that was the longest carp I have ever seen personally. I am still doing battle with this fish ten yards out and I am thinking how am I going to land this fish. Where's my fishing partner Bri when I need him! My net is packed up, I can't reach it anyway or I would probably loose the fish. It's to big to land by my hands safely, so what do I do? The fish is now ready to be landed and I will not guess how big it was other than to say it looked well larger than my 41lb+ PB.

I have my weigh sling close by and I think I can reach it to try and scoop the fish up in the weigh sling. I bend down for it and pop. The hook pulled from the fishes mouth. My mind goes absolutely blank. There was no anger, just disbelief. If there were sounds being made, I didn't hear them. I could not believe what just happened. I'm about to be 46 and I have been fishing for carp since I am 8. In all those years I never had a fish on like this that I knew of and may never again. The expressions of my good friend Bri came into my mind and the word gutted was all I could think and feel. I now know what it means and I really don't want to feel that way again.

On the way home I call Bri and let him know what happened. He is gutted for me. We both get excited for each other when we catch and we both get gutted when one of us looses a big fish. I know it is only a fish and things could be worse, but I put so much effort into my passion, it is difficult to take.

Bri does his best to cheer me up and helps me focus on our next session. Thanks, mate!

This day cost me $75 in terminal tackle, but I would have paid a lot more than that to have my picture with my new PB.

Gutted, a word with real meaning.

    Mach's gut,

    Andy

You do remember how! Now teach your little girl how.

  5. Massive fish and congrats to the angler. I also read Bill Cottam(sp?) who caught it at 72lbs lost Scar at the net last week. Yes, a record is a record, but fishing in a 25 acre lake that is probably mass fed with boiles seems a little different than catching a fish that size from a massive river in europe. jmo

  6. Nice black background there, Kent. But, for contrast, you need that pure white shirt!!!!! B)B)

Seriously, nice to see the lumps coming. WTG! fing16.gif

I wuz wondering: were you using pack/method? If so, to give all the credit to what's on the hook/hair is quite a compliment.

    Dale,

No pack or method, just the Venture Baits SBC flavored maize as hookbait with a stringer of the same maize. The PVA string breaks down in the water and there are some free offerings sitting with the hookbait.

As to the dark background, we had an eclipse. Didn't you have one? B)

Bri and I work to hard to give up new swims to smart folks checking out backgrounds. Sorry, but all my pics may be in the dark from now on. B)

  7. I finally got out today after 3 weeks. Work and kids have kept me busy. I managed a couple today with this 28 lb common being the biggest. I was testing Venture Baits Strawberry Cream Maize on a few of my rods today and it did the business. Only bait I caught on. I fished the maize as a hookbait and also attached a strawberry cream maize stringer. Try it sometime, it may help you out! B)
