  1. Incredible! Three pros get blanked! I'm feeling a little better now about taking my Mitchell 300 to Austin!  Bring on the big boys, Pete!  :D

    Ol' Captain

Horace, if you take that old Mitchell 300 to Austin and tie into a lump, that reel is going to be smoking!!!!!!!!! I still have three of them and a 308. They must be 30 plus years old. I still could fish with them, but today's reels are so much better. I do wish you all the luck in TX.

  2. When I looked at the fish the 1st time I just made a quick guess, but after looking at the pictures closely the camera angle make the 2nd seem much larger. I would say it is smaller than the 1st. It does not appear to be the same fish from what I can see. I won't change my guess, but I am sure I am wrong with my guess.

  3. As someone who is a frequent flyer with the airlines, I would not trust taking my fishing gear on the plane. Airlines lose luggage ALL the time. I would not want my rods lost, stolen, or broken by the airlines. I would pack my stuff properly and ship it UPS or FedEx. Yours chances of it getting there on time and in one piece are pretty good with these guys.

  4. It all started out so innocent. Pete asked if I’d like to try out a lake just a small stretch down I-20 west sometime this Spring. I said… “Pete, will we be gone very long?”  I asked….“What exactly will we be doing?”  “Where will we go?”  “Pete, can I bring my Mitchell 300?” Pete simply looked up at me and said, “Ol’ Captain……I thought you’d never ask”……….

I can sincerely say that words cannot express my excitement about coming to the ATC with Pete. Although we have never met I feel as though I already know many of you. We have shared our stories over the last several years. You have been more than kind to read them and to encourage us. I count it a real privilege to be a CAG member and I am thrilled about meeting all of you! One of my buddies at work said…”You might be a Redneck if you drive almost 1000 miles to catch a Carp”. That’s right boys, the DRCFA will be in the house!

    Tossin' and Turnin' til March,

    Horace (The Ol' Captain)

    Horace,

I am envious of you.  :D I wish I could make the trip to the ATC as well. I am sure you will represent the great state of Georgia very well. I am also sure you will be catching some larger fish than you do in your home river!

    Good luck,

    Kent

  5. ok, here goes the full story.

Becky and i left to fish a local creek at 11pm. we got set up and popped a champagne and tossed rods in at 12. we sat under my umbrella out of the drizzle and drank till about 1:30, when we retired to my car. when i woke up to sunlight i was salty. not a beep all night. we packed up and went to another strecth where i had baited 4 holes. 3 of them had the bait eaten from the night before. so i rebaited them all, and started fishing the most likely prospect. i ran back and forth until i saw fish eating in one spot at about 10:35. we gathered all the junk and ran over there. i cast a tiny hook full of sweetcorn right in a fishes path only moments later. here he is:

    #1- 10 lb 1 oz - 10:49am water @43:

    fff1.jpg

a little while later i saw a sweet mirror and tried the same thing, but the fish spit at the exact moment i set, so it spooked and i was sad. i continued running back and forth up and down the creek looking for fish while becky minded her bolt rigged rods. when i returned i saw the same mirror had come back. this time i was more careful:

    #2- 11 lbs even - 11:57 am water @44 - this fish is awesome!

    fff2-mirror.jpg

Then i had this whole discussion with becky about how i hate it when weights come out even. it's just that it seems to happen more than the 1 out of 16 probability that it should happen, and it always seems weird to me. she said i was nuts (true) and we packed up and went out for lunch. then we went for big fish on the delaware in a spot where scott knows there is no fish.

    #3- 17 lbs, 2 oz 4:00 pm water @42

    fff3.jpg

then i hooked a fish so big i thought i was stuck. really. it hesitated when i set the hook as winter fish sometimes do. so i started yanking to free my hook. i almost had a heart attack when it took off!  but thanks to my yanking to free the hook.... the hook came free.  soon after i had another on on:

    #4 16 lbs 10 oz - 4:54 pm water @ 42

    fff4.jpg

    and then

    #5 - 6 lbs 3 oz, 5:20 pm water @42

    fff5.jpg

    fff6.jpg

its a shame we didnt go to chester earlier, there were lots more fish there. this park is no place for a lady after dark, so we went home and watched a movie as soon as i put this fish back.

the final tally was like this:

    louis- 1 rod - 4 lb line-

    53 lbs EVEN (WTF)

becky- 2 rods, usual bolt styling, pva, etc.

    blank.

ahwell. she caught the only fish in all of TX last year, so this serves her right!  :D

    Louis,

Becky must be one heck of a lady to go carp fishing with you at 11pm at night, in frigid PA on New Years Eve. Then she fishes with you all the next day! What a trooper!

  6. This is typical of PETA. They are such a extremist left wing group. They want everyone to be like them and live life they way they want. By putting out shock items like this they get more attention. Smart marketing on their behalf.

They focus on kids to try and set their minds for the future. Their goal is in 20 years to ban fishing, hunting, or eating animals because kids will be adults then. They will have learned that fishing and hunting is bad so they will push to ban it.

As a student of military history groups like these are just like the Nazi's. Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it.

My only advice is that you support groups that work against radical groups like this.
