  1. It depends on your style of fishing. The higher test curve, the more back bone the rod has. If you fish a lot of pack bait, or mold ground bait around your lead, fish heavy pva bags and heavy leads, the 2.75 is not that great. I only buy 3.5lb test curve rods because of my fishing style and it basically covers everything. 3.5 lb test curve is also better if you are fishing in weedy areas and need some extra stiffness. Im a big fan of sonik rods. Its a great rod and its not that expensive compared to the high end rods.

If your fishing with a small pva mesh stick, or you are not casting to the moon, just light and simple, the 2.75 is good.

My choice ??? sonik sk4 xtr rods in 3.5 lb test curve all day. That is, just my opinion.

  2. Yes another winter order. lol. I belong to a car detailing site and they have a unpacking picture thread and its over 500 pages long now. I figured it would be cool to post up our goodies. Big or small.

Just got my new order today. I know my fed ex drivers name and when I answer the door he just says, oh hey you got more carp tackle lol!!

  3. Florin, the fox reels is for my other setup. I have two. When I fish small lakes close to home I go very very light and compact. When I go out and do a real session, I have my serious gear. Too much to carry by hand.

This year I am using daiwa. Been using shimano for nearly 15 years so I wanted to change. I got more stuff coming. Dave at big carp tackle is getting a good workout from me hahaha.

  4. It ends when you quit breathing. Then the widow sells it for a fraction of what you paid. :( Or............gives it to her new boyfriend.

lol wild right. It doesn't end. Just when you think you have everything, something new comes out or you see something and your like, hmmm, I could use that lol.

  5. Thanks ray. That was a wild session. It was a sunday afternoon in the middle of july. The water was calm, weather perfect and everything was quiet. I wasn't expecting to haul. I chummed out with hemp seeds only. Sat down, molded my corn meal dough on a flat head tubertini hook which keeps the knot hidden and lays flat with the hook link material, very light line from PLATIL and a 2 gram venturieri float. Never forget lol. I managed 32 carp at the 2 hr mark.

Ill snap a few pics of my float tackle. I buy all my stuff when I travel to italy.

  6. Hey I still fish for carp with my float rod. Thats how I started carping. we got more action float fishing than fishing "deep"

we did have one rod with heavy lead but we really didnt care about that rod because all the fish came on the float. I had 32 carp in less than 2 hrs on the float using my corn meal dough recipe that a match angler in Italy gave me. IMO sometimes there is no right way.

  7. Got asked what rods are in the pic. Those are nash 3.5 dwarf rods. 9 ft. They seem very heavy duty. I bought those for days when I fish small local lakes and dont want to carry all my gear. The fox eos 10000 reels compliment the rods really well. The new eos reels are amazing. They are the smoothest reels I have ever purchased. so basically I have two setups. One light, and one for when I go all out.

I also got these on order. cant wait to test out the cross casts.

  8. I'm trying to figure out how a barbless hook causes more damage than a barbed hook. I'm not using barbless hooks but regular hooks with the barb mashed down for trout flies. Believe it or not, barbless fly hooks cost more than barbed!

brookesy nailed it. A barbed hook will stay in place and not move around as much. That is why I only use micro barb. Its a smaller barb but will keep the hook from not moving around during a longer fight especially with bigger fish.
