Brian, great post and info!

cool story captain. Hey I meant to ask you. whatever happened to the original swim you guys used to fish? The hooch?
-
oops my response blended in brians post lol sorry.

I have had good success with the orange and yellow fake floating corn used on the tip of my hair rig. I used two $7 cans of pineapple maize for most of the season. I only had to get into a third can of maize in the fall because I started catching so many fish I used up the other. I store the fake corn in the flavored maize cans. Just keep the maize in the shade or a cooler and back in the refrigerator when you get back home. Mine keeps for 7 or 8 weeks this way easily.
I fish my fake pop up maize similar to a pay lake rig setup. I fish it alone with no real food with it The packbait is molded around the lead AND fake corn. My hook link is small. so when the pack breaks down, you have that tiny piece of fake maize popping ever so slightly on top of the pack. just like a puff with packbait

Boilies need to be introduced into the water. But, I also found that the boilies I get from nash, mainline, or richworth catch more fish than the boilies made in America. Concept for you, when I was getting them with Ed Wagner, caught instantly on any water. At the kissena fish ins the concept 4 u would rip.
Also at times, when boilies are used properly, they do tend to catch the bigger fish. Pop up boilies like 10 to 15 mm, fake pop up maize , with the right presentation can be deadly.
But I would stick with maize for now. Still catch big fish as well and are more instant. Make a good panko oats or grits packbait and your good to go. No need for the other stuff now. One thing at a time.

Depends on the situation and rigs. I only use mono and coated hook braid. Not a fan of straight braid unless im using it with pva or an anti tangle sleeve. I like stiff hook links.
-
If the water is silty, I like to make my hook link longer than usual. I will also fish a pva mesh bag which keeps the bait from going in the silt. I then switch over to a lighter lead.
If I am fishing really short hook links, like 3-4 inches, which I will be experimenting this spring, I will mold the lead and hookbait in one ball of pack. similar to putting everything in a pva bag. This forms a nice presentation and will just lay on top of weed and silt. I only use this method if im fishing puffs or pop ups. Not bottom baits. I got some good ideas brewing so next year will be the true test.

welcome. we got some of the best carp anglers in north america on this site. The addiction will only get worse.

as mentioned previously from someone else, harrissportsmail.com Damn they got good pricing and on shipping.

Great story captain. I would love to catch some buffalo. Those bad boys can grow huge.

Catch and release is a beautiful thing

I have so many that I saved when I buy pop up boilies. I got at least 20.

I think I am going to buy the solar bow loc net

You guys make great points. For this reason, I have two carp setups. One is just all out carp gear. Non carp anglers look at me and think I'm going camping for a month. The other setup are two telescopic rods with simple rigs. Light bag, small bite alarms and bNk sticks. Very simple. I catch more carp with my simple setup and it's more relaxed.
Don't get me wrong I still love using my euro carp setup

Back to the topic at hand....
Get out and fish... Some rods... some bank sticks... (made my first set out of old arrows and 12 gauge wire) and some bait and go to town. Have a great time... Just watch out, the carp addiction only grows over time.
They need to make a 12 step program for this sport. I'm a carp junky lol.

Corn doesn't work and chumming is against the law in Oregon.
Corn is the go to bait at times when nothing else works.
-
That's going to be even better. I'm going to test it out this weekend.

Interesting. I have to try the Pam.

Excellent! Love your videos Brian. Been playing around with the korda bags again. Fir me they still break down too fast. Any tips? I'm thinking of wrapping some parts with pva tape. Double bagging not a fan bc there is too much residue. Right now I'm on heavy slow melt mesh and it's spot on. I know it will hit the bottom and not break that fast

Excellent article

John I enjoy your videos. Good job men!

Brian your the man!

I love taking video because you never know what will happen both good and bad. My best results with them have been after the spawn through summer. They really search them out those times of the year.
I will defiantly order some for next season. Cc Moore seems to make some pretty good bait. I'm a big fan. I'm also going to fool around with the hell raisers next season also. They have the matching liquid flavor as you well know. Can't wait

Hey- any review on those rods?
I have not fished them yet. With my bad back I can't fish. They seem really nice though. Strong and very light. The line guides they say are very strong but look fragile. Not a fan of that part. All in all it's going to be a life savor for me. Condensed gear is my goal this year. I need to able to haul my gear with no cart or barrow. Bait, my bag, rods, everything.
Barbless hooks
in Beginning Carping
Posted
Korda and nash hooks all have micro barbs. Lots of the over seas hooks do. Yes barbless is way easier to remove. It's fantastic. But, I have caught a few fish with barbless and noticed the damage was worse. I guess the hook moved around and created a bigger hole so to say. I did treat the damage. Now I only use micro barbed.
