  1. Don't get it twisted though. The 4 to 6 lb test can only take you so far and your limited to fish certain waters and baits IMO with a simple approach. It's hard to explain. Once you master both techniques you will see what I mean. Thine and place for certain things.

I came from a match fishing background. My father was a top trout, tench, barbel angler in Italy so I learned to fish light line and very very tiny hooks. It only took me so far with carp fishing.

  2. there are moments in carp fishing when a guy with 3-4k in gear, 10-20 years of angling experience, pre baited spot, using the most expensive carp bait and carp tackle on the market, catches one fish per day in a spot where next to him someone with a 3 foot, 10$ walmart rod, with corn straight on the hook, bread on the feeder, catches 25 fish all day. It's frustrating and embarrassing but, it's carp fishing. It happens more often than you think. Don't ask me how I know LOL

Very true. The days that I take my light tackle to a lake I end up catching more carp. I remember taking my float fishing setup to a lake near by. I was using corn meal dough that I learned to make in Italy. 32 carp were caught that day on one rod. I wasn't even there for two hrs. Hauling isn't even the word

  3. That is the difference in cultures. Germany passed a law a few years ago that you cannot release fish. You catch, you keep. I heard of a trout angler that landed a nice fish here in the US and released it. Some German guy came running up and shouted, "What are you doing?" Fish just don't grow bigger doing the backstroke in vegetable shortening.

FWIW, there is a very, very small group of fly anglers that cut the point off the hook and count the strikes.

That's wild. Next week I'm going upstate ny so I will avoid all this crap and be in a more open less crowded area

  4. So I decided to test out some new pack and method mixes today at a local pond. Just went really light. Nothing serious. Conditions were a bit tough today. We have had some crappy weather here in ny. Across from me the meat eaters show up and start setting up there hundred rods. Ok. Carp killers are here!

So I start getting bites and land carp. Guy screams across the lake with a heavy Russian accent and says hey what bait? I said to him bread. Screamed it across the lake. Guy didn't understand me. Typical meat eater, because he is not catching and I am, he walks over and says my friend what bait you use? Wow. Big carp! Can I have some bait? I said no I'm all out I'm leaving now. I walked away bc my blood pressure was already starting to rise.

He then walks towards me and says, why you put fish back? Take home and eat! I wasn't going to get into it with him but I said, this lake is very important to me. It's part of my childhood and I had great memories with my father here and this lake had a lot of carp. Tons. Now it's all fished out, dead bc you guys kill. Carp fishing is my passion.

The guy looks at me and goes, oh no no I take home and kill carp. The guy is degrading me and cursing screaming bc I catch and release carp. All I did was nod and say yep and smile. Guy walks away and starts speaking in Russian all pissed off.

Guy lands one carp. I'm watching him take the fish, crack it over the head and starts to remove the scales. Keep in mind the fish is still alive. For some reason the meet eaters here remove all the scales and then put them in a black bag.

Got sick to my stomach and just left. Even on my day off and relaxing I still get harassed lol. Gotta love New York!

  5. Let me tell you something. I just received my nash scope landing net. I was playing with it today and if I had to break down the net everytime I land a fish I would throw the net in the lake. Just putting the arms in the slots was a struggle. I'm a pretty strong guy. Taking them apart was another nightmare. I got some help from a nash video to easily remove the arms. Noway would I be doing this all day.

I purchased a carp net years ago that the arms just slide up pole and lock in. Push a button and the arms retract back. It takes one second to open and close. To land the fish I just lift the net vertically. It's the best net I have used and been using only that one for years. Now that I purchased the ordinary net, I don't like it at all. If there are some tricks to assemble the arms and remove the arms let me know. Bc this is a nightmare. It's too finicky.

  6. Good job. Carp fishing is very addicting if you get into it. The day before my session I can't sleep at night and I'm in my garage for hrs looking everything over and making bait. It's an obsession.

  7. just waiting on dave to give me a call to say my stuff has arrived. should be any day. All the vendors on here are great. I have dealt with most of them and always had great service. At times they don't have what I need so I shop at Thetacklebox in the uk. The stuff arrives at my door in like 3 days. And that's coming from the uk.

  8. I use to play around with the bags. I tried the korda bags. They used to leave a lot of residue. This was a while back. I guess I will pick up a few and try again. I just love the mesh and how fast and easy they are. I got really good at making nice sticks.

  9. For now I have to post in the beginners section until I renew my membership. But does anyone have or tried a slow melting pva MESH? I have heard elite angling pva is the best but hard to get. I see fox makes a heavy mesh pva. I just ordered some and going to try it out.

Last night I was in my garage playing around with trying to make the mesh break down slower. some lakes or rivers have deep water so if the pva mesh breaks before the rig lands on the bottom, its useless. I tried double bagging, I also tried wrapping pva tape around the bag.

The last test was ok. double bag pva and I coated the bag with glycerine. It did take a little more time to break down. The korda pva is great, but it just breaks down too fast. Thoughts?

  10. I will take pictures and do a review. whats nice about the scope 3 rod hold all, is that, you can put your bait, tackle, rods, net, in one bag. no need to be carrying a million things on your back and hands. landing mat that I have just rests on top of the bag, and I will only need to carry a bucket or two to mix my bait and spod. Im curious to see how the 3.5lb rods handle a method feeder. pva not really worried as I use mesh.
