  1. I guess i am getting into this a little late.

To those who have been posting I think I first want to apologize to Edward. This is not what the majority of CAG members are like, nor is this banter what CAG is based on. For those who do not know who I am. I am the Illinois state chairman of the Carp anglers group, I am also the person puttin on the Dixon family Carp Derby as well as the Fighting Roughfish's Illinois Carp Championship. Edward is a local angler in Dixon. Referred to by many as the carp guy. When he heard that I was trying to put on an event in Dixon he contacted me to help....unsolicited. And has been very supportive of the events coming up. He was also the angler who took me with to carp fish when no-one showed for the fish in a few weeks back. Although he may not be a zealot, I witnessed him take great care with his fish, and released them. Fishing in situation maybe .1% of the Euro-Style anglers would understand and be able to pull fish. I did not know this thread was here, nor that Edward had joined CAG. I recieved a e-mail from him telling me he still planned to help with the event even after his greeting here.

Part of the duties of a STATE CHAIR is to approach new areas, people, and seek out connections with people and develope relationships that will help to spread the word of "Catch and Release Carp Fishing", the other part is to put on or help facilitate events for the CAG members. As any who have been in CAG for a while, or had the pleasure of knowing early founders such as Bud Yancey, a catch and release angler has always been a welcome friend of CAG. As I once again scroll to the top of the page and look at the CAG mottos I wonder what has inspired the members here to assume the worse, attack a new member, and disrupt My work.

Now I am not here to defend Edward, nor do I really think he needs my help. I'm here because I am embarressed and angry that I have put in so much time and effort for a bunch of self absorbed cry-babies. I have for over a year reached out to clubs and events that have not been fish friendly with great success by leading by example not critisism, and for three years I have put hundreds of hours into helping to bring back the Dixon event and to bring in new anglers to CAG and give CAG members a new event and this is what happens!! I would have thought at least the Illinois anglers would have recognized the location on Edwards avatar and put 2 and 2 together but it seems that some people just like to complain because as I search their posts I don't see much in their volenteering, just perpetual complaining.

It takes alot of time doing this, and it makes it real hard when people take swings at the very people who offer to help us. Once again Edward, I apologize........For the rest of you, perhaps you should find more constructive uses for your time, I double checked my in-box and didn't see any offers from any of you to help promote carp care at the August events.

I don't know about the rest of the folks who posted, but I know that my response to Edward was based on a couple of his entries, which were over the top (IMHO). I have no reason to think he is not a helpful angler and/or good guy

  2. So that makes it right does it? C&R not a BBQ??? Going to defend him now? the way to do it, is to get an idea how to handle and look after these big fish first, there is no excuse, it's all here, the problem is when they ignore all of the experience and jump in head first without knowing a bean!

Do you really want me and others to congratulate members, for trying to steam live Carp on a 100deg's road???

Oh and I know Phone, I'm a Brit, and do not say it again!

I think I was unclear. I do NOT support Edward's comments at all and I was trying to convey my thought that HE is the one that is in the wrong here. I feel that if someone is new to the forum and is looking to post pics and ask questions, then one needs to be able to take some criticism in stride (even if such criticism is a bit blunt). It's part of learning. If you're here to not take any advice or learn anything, then I don't know why you want to do so.

Paul -- thanks for attempting to explain the passion we both share. Unfortunately, the words fell on stony ground with some caustic remarks about the way we choose to fish. Some folks just cannot say anything nice about something they really do not fully understand -- and just revert to criticism or trying to make their way look superior. I think that is rather sad.

Ditto on the above comment. I think Edward is more than a little brazen to be a newbie on the forum and essential "talk smack" about others from the beginning. The original replies to his first post could have be taken a lot more casually and constructively. And, honestly, if you're happy with only the way that you're used to fishing, I can't see much reason for being on here in the first place

  4. A thought on how to catch that 40+ would be to bait a small area right where you saw it before and then move your set up about 15 to 20 feet to the right or left, putting a hookbait right where you saw it earlier but at least now you're not right on top of it. Or, if you don't move your set up, slacken the line so the fish isn't bumping into your tight line, getting spooked. A bolt rig would be helpful in that situation so the slack line isn't an issue

  5. I think the key to attracting fish, whether its a newer water or not, is to use any type of groundbait. Particles are fine, but once they're gone, they're gone. method hangs around for a while, even as it becomes microscopic from feeding. Just curious, why salt?
