  1. Since I keep forgetting to take pics of our homemade pod I cropped some photos so you can get an idea. I will take some good ones monday or tuesday.Mines a little different from carl's but you can make them any way you want to your likings. I have metal rods in mine for weight to hold it down in water.

  2. LOL you mean my lobster friend? lol We were in the sun all day and he got it the worse as you can see. Of course he had sunglasses on too. I havent tried backleads but in this situation it would not have helped. THis guy was 10 feet from my pole! Both times this happened. I will take pics hopefully tomorrow of the pod. It started to get dark so hopefully tomorrow I can do this for everyone to see.

  3. sure I will set mine up tomorrow and get some pics for you. We both have ours made very similiar but mine was a little different so I can place it in the water since my bank space is limited. Total cost is roughly 10-15 to build.Carl showed me his one day and I just built mine last week and its working well for me.

  4. shoot me a pm sometime when you want to go or just hang out with us. That was shawnee but if you want to try something more local let me know and I can take you to some of my spots around town here. Look in the mid atlantic regional section for tonights catch. lol 30lbs 15oz We get together every week or so and hang out for a while to do some carpin so feel free to tag along and we can get you all set up..

  5. I always enjoy your stories. I have met a lot of new friends from carp fishing over the past year and look forward to making many more. I posted our fishing experience from this weekend below this thread and we are all smiles from our fun day of fishing. We got to share what we know with others hopefully got a few more people hooked on carp fishing.

  6. Most were in the 10-14lb range. The funny thing about this spot is they get up into the 40inch range which is kinda long for a carp around here but today I think the biggest was around 30inches. It was actually a slower day for this spot. Carl has caught up to 20 himself in a day. A few Cag events and fishins have been held here and its a nice place to hang out with your friends.

  7. Well myself Carl Heltzel and Mike decided to do some shawnee carpin today. We fished all day and even though it was kinda slow for shawnee we still managed to get 9 carp for the day amongst ourselves with the biggest around 13ish lbs. I started off the day with a mirror carp which is my 2nd. Today was sort of an experiment day trying out new rigs and baits. Big thanks to Karl from scorpion tackle. I bought a rig kit from him and used a few different setups today producing fish for me. His x2 hooks are very sharp and strong. I got snagged a few times and the point stays extra sharp and no bends unlike most hooks out there. I missed about 7 runs with either snags or just plain missing them. We almost had a bad incident with a few boats. I lost my cool on the one guy who came 10 feet from the bank and got my braid stuck on his motor. I lost about 75 yards of line to this retard and definately said some choice words to him. Then some kids in a cayak did the same thing to both Carl and I but no line lost then some other moron did the same thing again to me and I lost about 60 yards of line. I was not a happy camper because later in the evening the line that broke made me lose my big one of the day because I got snagged on it out in the water.Other than the fact we all look like lobsters from sitting in the sun all day it was a lot of fun and we got to show a few people how to carp fish and told them about the site. I would recommend checking out scorpiontackle.com for your fish supplies. Karl has a lot of great prices and today was a test of a lot of new things I bought and I made some boilies out of his flavors and other products and I was having a lot of runs for it being a slow day. Well heres some pics. Enjoy...

  8. Great story! I will have to take some pics of my mitchells. I have about 6 300's a 302 and the matching rods for all of them and some old catalogs that are about 30 pages full of great pics. If I can get my scanner to work I can get some of those on for you.I would guess the rods and reels are close to 40 years old maybe older. They were my dads and he bought them new back then.

  9. I have a question about your experience with them. WHen I make a method mix I use a 5gallon bucket. Now if I am out in the sun you can watch the lid swell due to I am guessing gases being released inside the mix. Do they still seal nice after a good hot day with some expansion? My regular lids actually stayed somewhat warped after they expanded some.

  10. Sounds pretty similiar to where I fish now. To the left I have a small cove with a creek channel in it then where I fish I have a bank that is around 50 yards wide and it goes from 1 foot to 40 feet gradually then all of the sudden you have a fast drop to that 40 feet. About 50 yards out is a heavy grassline and I chummed for roughly 6 days only because I am the only carp fisherman at this venue that I have ever heard of.But after they got used to the corn they would come within 15 feet of the shore.I used sweetcorn for a while to lure them in then switched to other things.Boilies really need to be introduced into a spot for a short period of time so they get used to them as a food source. I have only caught a few on boilies where I fish but if I travel 40 minutes away to another spot I can pound them out on boilies because they are used to them. Good luck and just keep trying. Also keep in mind its been a little slow due to the hot temperatures(not sure about where you live) but it may take a little time to get them goin good.

  11. I think thats a great idea to be honest. Even if it is an old idea you made it a reasonably priced item and may have introduced something maybe someone has not seen before. If it gets one person who has trouble with there hands the ability to use a pack isn't that the whole point behind this anyhow? I use a bait bomb and to just fill and press it takes me 10 seconds. I hardly call that any time at all. I pack it tight also. I don't want a fast break because the bluegills will attack this and even though that causes a lot of attention I want the carp to be able to notice it as well since the bluegill eat it alive before it hits bottom.
