  1. Due to work committments, I have not fished too much this year but, last Friday, I hosted a "fish in" for the Medical Student Wilderness Medicine interest group from Quillen College of Medicine. I was told to expect "4 or 5" but, given the nice afternoon and the fact that the students had just finished an arduous set of exams, about 15 people showed up. Between 2 and 6 PM, we banked about 20 fish. We fished in rotation - with most participants getting at least one shot at landing a fish. Fortunately, no one got a chance to practice their "wilderness medicine" skills!

PS. To all the students who came out - I hope you had a good time. It means a lot that you chose to spend your "not very abundant" spare time fishin with Dr. Rob. Lets do it again some time! :yourock:

    Hi guys,

Fished for 10 hours yesterday on Watauga Lake in east Tennessee. Got a total of 3 runs. One my daughter fought for about 8 minutes until it was lost to a snag, one we just flat out missed and one (shown above) got to the net. The fish above was caught on a crawfish tail and pineapple/corn/grits method. The water temp was 44F - air temp started at 18 (at 6AM) up to about 35 when the sun came out later in the day.

Wish it would have snowed - at least then I might have got onto the board with a snow carp! :)

Hope everyone had a good FFF!

  6. Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my alarms - I would really like to buy a set of 3 or 4 with a wireless remote. Robust and weatherproof is more important than gobs of functions. Any recommendations?

Also got out to a new spot on Watauga Lake over the holiday - here is the boy with a 17 lber.

    Thanks!
