  1. Wasted almost all day. Dr. appointment only to run 2 hours over due to an emergency.

Met Franklin and the wind was terrible.

We moved up the road so the wind would be at our back.

Franklin had a line in the water about ONE minute and hooked the largest we have landed from this pond. He followed that up with three more over the next few hours.

I'll finish this post with pictures of the well formed carp that I put on the bank.

    .......

    Hope you enjoyed see mine.:(

We are 'off' tomorrow but will hit our new favorite Saturday.

  2. Up early. Stopped by the local UPS and picked up a bivvy from Andy Phinn.

Put some hot cakes in the stomach and met Franklin about 9:00

Played with the bivvy for a few minutes. Nice! More on that in another post.

Franklin didn't do all that bad today. He put a nice total of 5 on the bank. His first and largest went and even 23 lbs.

I can't say much about mine other than the first weighed 17.12 and the second went 27.12 and was the largest of the day. Todays favorite pick up seemed to be honey or scopex corn.

On the other hand I CAN say, HOLY CHIT! I whupped up on Franklin and enjoyed every damn carp landed.:lol::lol:

They all looked to very healthy and without exception all 13 put up a nice fight.

Sorry about the two larger pics. They slipped by my editing.

  3. OK Craig,,,,,,

if it's a mirror,,,you keep your $75.00 in there, and I'll up it to $200.00

    :)

So if some Kid gets a Mirror and he wins, he's got $275.00 BUCKS,,

    Now that's a great first Prize....... :o

Looks like I better get some friends down at the Boys and Girls Club to help me split YOUR $200.

  4. OK Jerome.....

You know I love kids events......

    $100.00 Bucks to the Winner

Cold hard CASH ( Well in the form of a check)

and another $25 on top of that if the winning fish is a MIRROR

You have ONE mirror in a LONG lifetime of carping and you ONLY offer $25 for a kid to match YOUR record. Don't get me wrong, your $100 offer is GREAT, but $25 for a mirror?

Jerome, if he won't make it another $100, I'll kick in $75 if it is a mirror.

  5. We went south yesterday to Broad Creek. No matter what Franklin tried he couldn't get a nibble. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I, on the other hand caught 5 times what he landed.

    Today was a bit better.

Mickey D's hot cakes were hot and the syrup sweet. It all went down very smooth.

We met a couple of minutes after 9 am. I changed some shock leader and was in the water by 9:45. Being a slow day, it was 15 minutes before my first run (scopex).

    post-2842-0-57213500-1304280849.jpg

A few hours later it happened again.

    post-2842-0-74358000-1304281705.jpg

Not huge fish, but feisty and fun to play. Probably in the teens somewhere.

My last fish of the day was somewhere around 1 PM.

    post-2842-0-35493600-1304280915.jpg

I had one more run, but was too far from my poles to get it. Franklin headed for it, but his ran as he was walking by. (I don't know why he felt his only run was more important than my run while I was skunking him, but that is the way he is.)

We didn't weigh his, but guessed it at about 21-22 lb. It was the biggy of the day.

    post-2842-0-37323200-1304280916.jpg

About 30 minutes before we packed up Bob, who lives near the swim, came by for a visit. Bob is a pleasant fellow. In fact, I had him eating out of my hand. Franklin, on the other hand, must have done something to upset Bob as he peed on Franklins chair.

I got a shot of Bob as he was checking out my stuff.

  6. Typical boring day fishing with Franklin.

First a long wait for the first run. (Franklins)

As you can see he wasn't happy about the long wait.

    post-2842-0-80095800-1304163645.jpg

A few hours later we had about decided to pack up when a lonely little carp saved me from a skunking.

    post-2842-0-77499100-1304163646.jpg

We were tied and were talking about packing up due to lack of fish. One thing led to another and about another hour of swapping lies went by before his alarm went off. As you can see from his face he wasn't all that happy about being interrupted when telling fish stories.

    post-2842-0-72501600-1304163647.jpg

    We left soon afterwards.

P.S. I'll bet he wears a Hawaiin shirt next session. :D

    `

  7. As usual the setbacks came early on. I arrived at the new swim and it was pretty well pole to pole with cat fishermen/boys.

So, on to the swim we have been using for the past week.

As posted earlier today, we had only been there a couple of minutes when I had a run. Within 2-3 minutes Franklin had a double on. Yeah, the double was Franklin's. I 'think' mine was the biggy on the mat, but to tell the truth about that I'm not positive.

The wind was terrible today. Weatherman said it was 'breezy'. I would have like to see him put up an umbrella.

Today didn't see any outstanding specimens. We seemed to be in a group of juvenile males.

Here is our record, as they were caught.

I guess no one is surprised that the count goes to Franklin with 7 and my 5 was last. However, I 'think' my 2nd and 3rd were the two biggies of the day. Neither of us had a bragging size carp today. Maybe tomorrow.

    `

  8. I should never have gotten out of bed! :bonk:

Had to ship and bivvy a Fox oval plus out today, so I left early to get them shipped early. Boy, did I underestimate packaging and shipping. That Fox Oval is now danged near its weight in gold.

To make matters worse, I ordered pancakes at Micky D's only to be told they were out of syrup. :(

So with an empty wallet and an empty stomach I left for our swim.

I was almost set up when Franklin arrived. (I was afraid to ask if he had breakfast as he is just mean enough to have described it to me in detail.) To make matters worse, he has started the Hawaiin hoo doo on me again.

Today's, pick ups were crab, mussel, scopex, anise and mosquito larvae.

Before we get to the pictures and today's totals, I want everyone to know that I hooked and lost SIX. I think that is a new record for me while Franklin only lost two. At the end, just remember I lost more than he did and if we get to count those we lost I really did win.

Without further ado, let the pictures roll:

BTW, I've been posting larger pictures this year as I've been cropping in my cell phone. If those that are on land lines are finding them too large, PLEASE let me know.

    post-2842-0-30476200-1303778170.jpg

That started the race back and forth.

Nice looking fish but not as big as it looked at 16.8

    post-2842-0-81775500-1303778277.jpg

At this point I was ahead. However, being old and not yet knowing just how far Franklin will go to run up the score, I continued to fish.

He put the next one of the bank and I just marking up fish on his side of the score card for the rest of the day.

    post-2842-0-77758000-1303778278.jpg

I know Franklin had a 23.8 and I think the next one was it.

    post-2842-0-78870800-1303778279.jpg

I did get one more today as posted in a review. Here you can see 50+ we had on the mat at one time.

    post-2842-0-72497600-1303778280.jpg

Franklin caught the one on top (shown next) and I got the other (shown after Franklin).

    post-2842-0-56919800-1303778355.jpg

I just sat back and watched the rest of the day.

    post-2842-0-38476500-1303778357.jpg

The larger of the two on the mat weighed in at 28.8. Franklin didn't weigh his, but there was no doubt it would put the pair over 50 lbs.

So the final was 7 to 4 with the old man eating humble pie, again. But, also catching the biggy of the day, so I don't feel so bad.

We are off to try a new swim tomorrow. We think we can fish 3-4 there. If it proves productive we are considering asking Hoppy over, IF he brings some cinabuns.:)

  9. Rachel, here are two shots of a sportsbrella in the two position it can be used.

the first is in the wind blocking position. There is a wing on both sides, but I only had one down.

    post-2842-0-67570200-1303685484.jpg

The next is in the shade position. The pole is substantial and can be driven into pretty hard ground.

    post-2842-0-57892300-1303685565.jpg

  10. Easter started out by me walking into Mickey D's only to find the line clear to the door and only one cashier working. Went to the drive thru and placed an immediate order. Pulled forward only to find 5 cars in front of me. I was not a happy camper eating semi luke warm pancakes in the mall lot. As you can see MY day was not off to great start. :(

On to the swim. We had lines in the water in short order. I think it was Franklin who told the first lie. But, I'm sure I might have stretched the truth about something. Well, not SURE, but maybe I did.;)

It took a bit over an hour to land the first carp. In the meantime Franklin had a hook up and lost it in short order. I had hold of one a tad longer, but he put the purple hex on me and I lost it.

The one I did put on the bank first weighed in at 20.5 and the fight was worth the wait.

    post-2842-0-82626700-1303683971.jpg

About an hour later, another carp in the 13 lb range took my piece of crab corn.

    post-2842-0-04779900-1303684066.jpg

Out next, mine, (boy it is fun typing that), went 19 lb.

    post-2842-0-60375700-1303685081.jpg

About 20 minutes later Franklin started his run. (You KNEW he would. Right?)

    post-2842-0-11041900-1303684231.jpg

    post-2842-0-02622900-1303684232.jpg

As he put the last one on the bank, I KNEW he would tie me, even though I had a three fish lead. Some days you are the windshield and some days you are the bug.

    post-2842-0-54931500-1303684329.jpg

Earlier I posted the following picture and asked why it pi$ed me off and guesses as to what it weighed.

    post-2842-0-61550500-1303684471.jpg

Next is a picture you don't see very often. The reason is my back and problems lifting. However, I told myself that I would sit and lift any 30+.

Now what do you think it weighs?

    post-2842-0-71694200-1303684472.jpg

First, for those in my previous post who said they heard Franklin laughing in the background. SHAME ON YOU of so little faith in my carping skills. :hammerhead:

As soon as it came out of the water we knew it was over 30#. I took the picture on the mat and then handed the camera to Franklin, who was unfamiliar with my phone. While he was fiddling, it didn't pi$ me off it pi$ed on me. And I mean it really cut loose.

Then we weighed it and it went 29.0. That is when I really got pi$$ed as I was wet AND stinky for no reason.

We are going back tomorrow. I WILL get a 30 out of there.

    `

  11. April 21st started rather bad. Wife's birthday. It's bad enough I'm about to turn 70, but to be married to a 67 year old woman isn't what I had in mind when we married all those many years ago.

Then, I drove up to our 'new' spot that we were to fish for the first time, only to find two cars there and the spots taken.

We drove over to another spot a few miles away and the wind was VERY strong and right in our face.

Franklin, remembering the 9 to 2 drubbing he gave me the last time out suggested we go back to that spot.

Still gusting wind there, but with our umbrellas as windbreaks it was passable.

We ere late but got five lines in the water by about 9:15. That was ALL that happened until about noon.

The carp started crashing all over the place, but nary a bite could be had by either of us.

About 1:00 I switched to a Wheaties ball I had made last year. It was as hard as a marble, but I drilled it out and added an anise piece of corn. The second rod I tried some crab corn with slimy crab dip on the pack.

That all sounds good, but my run came on scopex maize.

Not huge, but at least the ice had been broken.

    post-2842-0-70814700-1303431888.jpg

Over the next hour I managed four more.

    post-2842-0-57426700-1303431937.jpg

    post-2842-0-15133700-1303431957.jpg

    post-2842-0-94199600-1303431971.jpg

At this point the carp quit like a switch had been thrown.

Franklin lost one while netting one of the above. He commented out losing his fish and I told him it was his own fault. I had a better net boy than he did.

A bit later he managed to get one onto the bank.

    post-2842-0-06336100-1303432112.jpg

The last one of the day came on my crab maize.

    post-2842-0-73836600-1303432233.jpg

One of the above weighed in at 27.8.

So instead of one good thing, I guess there was really two. The final count (in MY favor for once) and the biggy carp. We both thought it was in the 30+ range, but it wasn't to be.

27.8 was the second carp pictured and was taken on my year old Wheaties ball. That last one was REALLY plump but it was also short.

  12. My method is pretty much foolproof.

I watch Franklin catch carp and put them on his mat.

I have yet to find a reason to get my mat out.

But, like Neil catching a Koi, I will someday have a fish to put on a mat.

  13. Franklin and I don't do a lot of fishing in DE as bank space is so limited or the current is too swift at most of the places we fish here.

However, last Wednesday as we didn't have a lot of time we cut our travel time and fished about 9 miles from my abode.

I didn't have a run, let alone banking anything. Which as most of you know by now isn't unusual for me. :(

Although Franklin only landed two, he did manage to land a new CAG Annual State Record for Delaware.

So, according to the recently passed rules, I hereby submit this picture of our new Delaware CAG state record as witnessed by me on April 13th from the Misspilion River. It put up quite a fight. For a while, as we are close to the Delaware Bay, it occured to us that it might a lost blue fish. But, no, it was a very common Delaware common carp.

    post-2842-0-65872400-1303071067.jpg

Oh, I forgot. It weighed in at FOUR pounds and THREE ounces. Thinking it might grow a bit for another record later in the year, he returned it unharmed back into the Misspilion River.

Gosh darn, doesn't he look proud???
