  1. Doesn't anyone have pictures to post?

Well, I wasn't going to brag, but if no one else will talk about the fish caught, ..... Here goes.

    <

    <

    <

    <

Well that was all of the carp landed.

Next are some of the runs............

Mmmmm, seems the number of runs matched the number of fish caught.

Any other requests about the 2013 Spring DC Fish in?

  2. In years gone by the "frenemies" have put their share of the golden fish on the bank. And, as has been posted here, it is not only known but almost expected that Franklin puts the most. If their was a position on the forum for an honorary "Carp Whisperer" I have no doubt Franklin would be nominated and win in a landslide vote. Especially, if he was running against me.

We have been out a few times this month and until yesterday, the score was him too many and me NONE.

Yesterday was a pretty good day as I tied him with two each.

Today started out VERY well, when I put two on the bank and he hadn't had a twitch.

So a couple of hours into todays session a fellow drove up and started catfishing with worms he had just dug. In no time he put a yellow belly on the bank AND into his bucket.

Franklin got to telling him about our gear and how it was specialized european carp gear. And then, gave him lesson 101 in carp bait. His lesson was interrupted when the fellows pole was pulled off a piling.

We soon found out that his anti-reverse didn't work and he didn't have a working drag. His pole was a very light ugly stick about 5'6". About 10-12 minutes into the fight Franklin picks up our net and follows the fish up and down the bank for another 15 minutes.

    post-2842-0-30062500-1367101465_thumb.jp

Until the carp got bored and gave up.

    post-2842-0-14357600-1367101532_thumb.jp

Now we all know Franklin is a gentleman and he didn't say anything about a worm fisherman catching more and bigger carp than he had caught. (yet)

20 minutes later the little cow bell on the little pole tinkles and there was a repeat performance.

    post-2842-0-06514100-1367101781_thumb.jp

Followed by Franklin doing his part by netting what turned out to be a 20lb beasty.

    post-2842-0-63028300-1367101852_thumb.jp

So with the score ME 2, WORM GUY 2 and Franklin 0 the carp whisperer became the carp mumbler.

You will just have to take my word for it that a carp mumbler is not a pretty sound.

The worm guy then proceeded to put a decent channel cat into his bucket.

Maybe 30 minutes later my little ole pineapple boilie attracts another common and the score becomes even more lopsided.

    post-2842-0-81279000-1367102387_thumb.jp

Mumbling is now muted but still apparent and he goes about cleaning out his car by throwing carp gear here and there with a lot of enthusiasm.

Well it isn't long 'til he asks when we are going to pack up. I say about 30 minutes and he says okay and started putting gear away immediately.

On the 30 minute mark I start to tear down when his Delkim screams and Franklin becomes overly active. I can't swear to it, but I think he uttered a warning to anyone who got in his road.

He did his thing and ruined the skunk I had going.

Not a great day numbers or sizewize, but a lot of fun me ME! LOL

  3. Your story reminds me of my military days, in that, every time we moved I would take my hammer, which everyone had, and go knocking on neighborhood doors. I would introduce myself and show them my nice hammer and let them know that it was available to borrowing any time they felt it was needed. I would then inquire if they had any tools that I might borrow, if needed.

This way I didn't have tie up a lot of my fishing money in tools......

  4. Franklin and I have never talked about 'the one that got away' mostly due to the fact that he doesn't write much on here and it was my fault that it happened.

I promised him I wouldn't tell which of our favorite spots it happened in, other than it was in MD waters.

It had been a rather slow day when Franklin got a screaming run.

The fish put up a really good fight for about 15-20 minutes when it came close enough to the surface that we got our first glimpse of it. It was the biggest common either one of had ever seen. At least in the mid 40's maybe even more into the 50's and possibly into that magical realm of being a 60+.

It was another 10 minutes or so before Franklin tired him enough that he got him close enough to net.

I missed it on the first pass by as it turned quickly away when it saw the net. On that pass we knew it would break the existing State record!

Franklin played the fish well with a light drag so as to not pull the hook.

On the next pass, and final one, I guess I got excited and bumped the line with the net. It all happened so fast I'm not sure what actually happened. All we know for sure it that the hook pulled, the line went slack and all we had to show for that magificent carp was its shadow in the net which weighed 14 lbs.

Now I know that sounds like a 'story', but we did do CPR. Unfortunately, the shadow doesn't show up due to the flash on the camera.

  5. I want to particularly thank redcoat for taking my problem seriously enough to provide a helpful response.

As to Horace's reply, I hope he was just trying to make light of a very difficult question. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is, like my bread and flavoring problem NOT a simple solution.

Ingredients: 2 slices of bread, peanut butter and choice of jelly flavor (I prefer grape). Butter or margarine is optional.

First the bread must be oriented on a flat surface. When doing so, close attention must be made to which side of the bread slices are up. The sticky side of one slice MUST be up so that the jelly will adhere when it is flipped onto the peanut butter, which is applied to the other piece. Pay particular attention to the orientation of the sandwich when eating. The sticky side with the jelly must be on top of the peanut butter so as to not run out onto your clothing.

  6. Several weeks ago Franklin and I fished Hains Pt with Darius who fishes with a slice of bread wrapped around a weight and corn on his hook. It was effective for him and Franklin and I have started a similar fishing strategy.

For myself I have begun using the K1 Enterprise flavored plastic corn.

Initially, like Darius, I simply wrapped the bread around the weight and put the corn on a hair. It worked, but I thought I could improve the technique.

To begin, I felt that spraying the same flavor on the bread as the corn would help. I tried and I believe it did improve my catch rate. However, I felt that spraying the bread after being wrapped onto the weight was counter productive as it (flavoring) washed off too soon.

The more I pondered the more confused I have become as to which is the most effective way to fish flavored bread. So I'm asking for opinions as to which method is the most effective.

Here (below) is a standard piece of bread marked with lines to show the two standard ways a piece of bread can be folded before wrapping around a weight.

    post-2842-0-45850200-1351013376.jpg

Should I fold along the vertical (brown) line or the horizontal (green) line? If I fold along the green line I will lose the 'bread" shape and will simple wrap a simple rectangle piece around the weight. On the other hand, if I fold along the brown line I might present an unnatural shape to the carp.

Compounding the above problem is the flavoring pattern.

I ruled out applying the spray flavoring in a spiral pattern as most pray bottles don't spray long enough to apply a spiral pattern on a single plunge of the sprayer.

Having ruled out the spiral I was left with the vertical spray (please excuse the partially incomplete middle spraying, I had a sprayer malfunction):

    post-2842-0-75158400-1351013733.jpg

    The horizontal spray:

    post-2842-0-44766300-1351013770.jpg

Or the compromise of the slanted spray:

    post-2842-0-11271400-1351013802.jpg

In closing, I'm sure you can now clearly see that with two ways of folding and three spray patterns possible I have a choice of SIX possible scenarios to present my flavored corn. I would really appreciate any help in choosing the most effective

    Thanking you in advance,

    Craig

  7. We fished the only productive waters we have found over here, today.

As usual, Franklin was a fish hauling machine.

About an hour into our session he hauled this specimen in after a ferocious fight that went up and down the river for about 99 minutes.

He later put two more decent sized catfish on the shore.

Two more (a double) were also put on the bank. After which he clearly stated he didn't want to do that again. (Probably due to the heat and humidity.) I can honestly say he meant it, as he didn't get any more ....................... and neither did I.

  8. Franklin and I haven't been out much due to heat and family issues.

Late in the week Franklin found he would be able to get away for the day and decided Hains Pt would be the place to go. We have had our eye on site 24 near the exit gate and as we didn't know how good the site was we didn't tell anyone we were coming over. We also didn't know how many the site would support.

Turns out there is plenty of room and the wall is high enough to NOT get your feet wet at high tide.

We learned Hoppy was fishing down his way and Darius came over a couple hours after we had set up. A bit after that Moon arrived.

This was Franklin's second opportunity to fish his new bait casting rods. The first was a bust.

A couple hours into our session he left for a 'call of nature'. Of course, that was when he got his first run. I did enjoy using HIS new rod.

    post-2842-0-52020700-1344733351.jpg

It wasn't much later when he got to play one on his other pole.

    post-2842-0-67798400-1344733412.jpg

About then Darius showed up and baited up. About 5 minutes after putting out his third pole it sang the 'carp song'. I had not used my phones movie function, so I gave it a try. I posted to youtube as it was too large to load elsewhere. (Just listened to the preview and didn't realize how sensitive the mic was. LOTS of wind noise.)

Taking note that Darius was wrapping his weight with Wonder bread, I put a piece around mine and a short time later got my only run of the day.

    post-2842-0-55459600-1344733633.jpg

With the exception of Moon we each managed at least one.

There was one more caught, which I don't have a picture of. It was on one of Darius's rods and brought in by a friend of his that had dropped by.

Threatening rain caused up to pack up and depart around 5 PM.

  9. I'm contemplating a new carpmobile, but it won't quite take a 6' rod section.

    Has anyone fished with a

    Colmic RT303 12' 3.00lb 3 section rod?

How do they play a fish? How is the finish and quality of manufacture

    ?

    Thanks for any answers.
