  1. It took four outings, but I FINALLY got a run,

Franklin and I had about given up ever seeing another carp, but he did manage a 2-3 pounder yesterday. I took a bad picture, so I didn't post it.

Today, we moved back to a swim we hadn't fished for a couple of years.

It was dead for a couple of hours, but Franklin wasn't to be denied and ran off a string of five.

I was about to call it a day, when I had a small run.

I think if she had had one more egg she would have burst. She did put up a nice fight before being gently returned to the water.

  2. I've attended these events put on by Mark for the past few years. I do want to assure folks that fish ARE caught even though he posts the same pic of that carp he caught at some point in the past. He does heat up a decent can of beans and Franklin will again be giving lessons. Hope to see all that can make it. If it is on the point for both days, I might even stay over.

  3. We had lines in the water in MD about 0930.

Weather was cool and a little wind. It soon became somewhat pleasant and breezy.

Not much happened for an hour and then I managed this little gal who weighed in among the lower teens.

    post-2842-0-35190100-1333481875_thumb.jp

Several hours went by with nothing happening other then it being hot in the sun and cold in the wind so I set up to block both. Here is a shot of our homes away from home.

We started to pack up about 2:00pm when I had one last run which produced this gal weighing in at about the mid/upper teens.

I won't say who begged and pleaded to have this posted again, but here it is.

  4. First let me apologize, to those who were waiting, for not posting yesterday. I had picture problems.

Secondly, Yesterday was a big day at Hains Point. Big in that I added several names into my little black book of people made me look bad.

Foremost, of course, was Hoppy who invited us over and poisoned the area I normally fish. Poison probably isn't the correct, but I have it on good authority (Mr Big) that coffee grounds kill a swim. Now I didn't actually 'see' coffee grounds being put into my swim, but I can't account for blanking to any other reason. (Hoppy wasn't very neat with his coffee grounds as he didn't have a bite either.)

Next into my little black book was MOON. He had agreed to buy a few items I have had up for sale and was to come over and pay be by 9-10 am. So when he didn't arrive until or after noon, I spent most of my morning worrying about my cash flow to get the new alarms I've ordered. To be fair he did call (late) and said he would be there. I guess Hoppy "coffee'd" his swim too, as he had nary a bite while I was there.

Now I admit that I, like most folks, have some type prejudice against a type or kind of people. However, I was forced to add a whole class of people into my black book. I'll just say one word, "Romanians". That may not seem fair, but after I explain, I'm sure most of you will understand.

We had a pretty much arrived and had lines in the water by 0930. This included Darius and his father who was scheduled to leave for Romania the next day (Sunday). Darius and his father, whose name I failed to get and apologize for my oversight, seemed like nice folks, but as usual I was mistaken.

Several hours went by with nothing happening when "foriegn" words were heard. Climbing out of my warm bivvy I see that Darius's father has a fish on. The rod is bent pretty good so I walk down to see what is going on.

When the fight ended the common weighed 31.5. Heck my camera was 1/2 llb heavier after taking pictures of it.

    post-2842-0-17128400-1333297867_thumb.jp

The last occurrence of the day was a pleasant one.

    post-2842-0-16887500-1333297906_thumb.jp

Now I applaud a nice fish well played, Darius had to show off a bit and catch another.

    post-2842-0-53428200-1333298010_thumb.jp

Then 'those Romanians' got themselves put into my little black book by doing it again.

Moving on to the next item of the day, Franklin.

Franklin, has a third rod and reel ordered, but only took a pair to Hains Pt. After we had suffered through the onslaught by Darius and his father, Franklin rebaited and one of his rods broke. Not one to let adversity get him down, he rebaited the other and soon had a fish on.

Now we all know it is hard to outfish Franklin, so I guess he figured if he couldn't get the most or the biggest, what is left. Yeah, you guessed it.............

    post-2842-0-86889100-1333299006_thumb.jp

The last occurrence of the day was both pleasant and bothersome.

A taxi pulls up and Rod Mills, an attractive lady and a young man get out. Turns out Rod, his girlfriend Tina and her son Ryan were passing through the area and stopped by. Looked like Rod had lost some weight, but I can't account for why a lady that good looking would be seen in public with him. At least, she brought her good looking strong son along for protection. Rod passed out his usual amount of BS. As the taxis was still waiting, he indicated his need to use the "facilities". This is where I failed to get pictures of Rod or his accompanying friends. She must really like rod as she took his hand and led him to the 'family' restroom. I got there too late with my camera, but this is all I could find that seemed to have been used. I know that Rod sure had a smile on his face.

    post-2842-0-54356800-1333299693_thumb.jp

Weather is turning cold again and Franklin and I have some chores this week, so I don't know when the next report will be.

BTW, upon reflection, the Romanians might not have been as bad as I conveyed.

  5. March 26, 2012 a day that will be remembered for a long time.

Willem took down the CAG Forum.

Several members had to be restrained due to stress.

Neil and others pooled assets and paid Willem the ransom asked for.

But most importantly, Franklin took lessons from me and I caught a 'gay' carp.

I didn't get to whup Franklin so bad any pain was inflicted, but I caught two special fish.

The first was estimated at 18 pounds which was the first and the biggest of the day.

    post-2842-0-59072500-1332860531_thumb.jp

    Now about the gay carp.

Brokeback Mountain was filmed in Wyoming so I never expected to catch a Wyoming carp over here in MD, but the wind was VERY strong yesterday.

If you look at the picture there can be no doubt that this one is from Brokeback Mountain and is very probably a gay carp. It weighed in at about 14#.

    post-2842-0-18080900-1332860697_thumb.jp

If Willem will leave the site alone the next report should be Thursday.

Looks good for a trip to Hains Pt this Saturday.

    `

  6. Franklin was unable to fish yesterday and Matt called and called begging me to take him to our spot up near Chestertown.

I contacted Franklin and asked his opinion. He approved if I took our normal precautions.

We were to meet at 0930, but I ran a few minutes late and tried several times to reach Matt to let him know. I arrived on site at 0945 and finally reached Matt who said he was in Georgetown and would be there in 'a few minutes'. He didn't believe me when I told him he was 90 minutes away!

I took a short nap and was awakened by the phone. Matt let me know he was only about one hour away.

Another short nap and another short call indicating he was only 30 minutes away.

Finally, he arrived and we set up.

Several hours went by with me picking up two small channel cats and Matt getting the rare pigmy channel cat about 4-5" long.

Here you can see him fighting his cat.

    post-2842-0-14551800-1332617065_thumb.jp

As the day ran down and not a carp nibble, bite, run or a swirl in the water, I packed my stuff up. Matt wanted to stay on, but he didn't know I had promised Franklin to take precautions to protect our site. Matt had indicated he planned on coming back to OUR secret site and after his late arrival I didn't really object to taking our routine precautions.

So I also packed up Matt and left our site for Franklin and I to enjoy another day.

    post-2842-0-75827200-1332617327_thumb.jp

  7. Franklin survived his medical tests and x-rays and we met in Federalsburg this morning.

While Franklin was showing off Tuesday, several fishermen a ways off were intent upon watching us haul. When we showed up today, they were spread out across our normal fishing spot so we moved uptown to the pier we fished year before last.

Franklin started us off with this pretty little golden common which went about 14-16#.

    post-2842-0-09735400-1332442764_thumb.jp

Several minutes later I had a zinger of a run. I knew it was a decent fish as it ran upstream against the tide for quite a ways. After a nice fight on my new pole and reels this nice 22# (weighed) was put on the deck.

Yes I know some of you will be skeptical that I caught one bigger than Franklin, but if you will right click on his carp and then right click on the picture of mine and then open in a new window, you will assured that mine was bigger. Mind you now, I'm not claiming it is huge or that I whupped up on him pretty good, I'm just saying mine was just a LOT bigger than his................. just sayin.... :P

    post-2842-0-12158100-1332444121_thumb.jp

Having mentioned the new rods and reels, I don't mind taking a moment of your time showing them off. I wasn't sure the first time out, but having been out 4 times now, I think they are keepers. The Shimano Medium LC seemed a bit heavy after using the 4000Ds for a year and the Saxon Hexalite in 2.75 TC seemed a bit like a noodle in the tip and heavier than my Chub 10' set. However, catching the 22# today and throwing PVA I no longer worry about them having soft tips. They cast well and play a fish at distance and under the net well. The reels are everything you would expect out of Shimano. I do have one complaint. When the line roller guide is directly under the handle you can't open the bail. The roller guide has to be stopped a bit before or just after. It is taking a bit of getting used to, but I'm well on my way to doing so. Oh, another problem. I'm having a bit of bother making 'short' casts.............. LOL

Franklin is off tomorrow with appointments and chores.

If Matt finishes his, we may get to put in a few hours together.

Sat and Sun looks like a rainout, so this may be the last Frenemies until Monday.

    `

  8. Well, bad back or not, Franklin is back and meaner than my wife.... and that is MEAN!!

Matt had some chores for his parents, so I got whupped by Franklin all by himself.

The day started off well with me catching the first two.

    post-2842-0-34443000-1332279837_thumb.jp

Franklin finished the day stomping me by a score of 8 to 6.

We each lost, at least, three due to hook pulls. These river carp really put on a show.

I want to thank Andy Sprinkle for the Fruity Peach. It worked VERY well.

New pole section should be here tomorrow. Franklin has some medical stuff tomorrow, so we are hopefully meeting Matt for a session on Thursday.

Weather permitting, if Franklin continues to improve we plan on Hains Pt. Saturday.

P.S. I have no idea what the score would have been if he had had a fishing shirt on........

  9. With Franklin laid up I hadn't expected to get any carping in but, regardless of the block I had on his phone number, Madchummer (Matt Latzo) seemingly pleaded with Verizon to put him through with some kind of ####-a-maimy story about me being depressed and he had what it took to save my sanity.

I refused his call THREE times and let it go to voicemail, until my voicemail box filled up and had to answer him.

Even after I told him I had come down with a virulent case of the black plague, he insisted I drive down to his secret spot and spend a whole damn day listening to him about fishing and how all the cute girls that walked by 'wanted' him.

Anyway, I caught one which came in at about a very fat 14 lbs. He lost several and after I left (he said) he cleaned up and gave hundreds away to some neighbor hood kids.

Well, I had spent an entire day fishing with Matt so I figured I had met my obligation, but he didn't see it that way. Even after I told him I had an early Sunday appointment for a vasectomy, he insisted I would be numb and could drive the 40 miles down to his secret spot and should fish with him today.

After crying and flooding BOTH of my fishing towels, I agreed to come down.

First, here is a picture of his secret spot. I don't know how it can be much of a secret with all those houses around and him bragging about his carping prowess to anyone who even drove by slow enough for him to yell at them.

    post-2842-0-68219200-1332114216_thumb.jp

Like Saturday I put the first one on the bank about 90 minutes into our session. I'm guessing about 10-11 pounds

    post-2842-0-91619200-1332114259_thumb.jp

I guess I should mention that I now know why he is called the Madchummer. I didn't actually measure, but I think the pond level increased about 3" when he chummed upon arrival. I saw a grain barge sink one time and the water level didn't go up that much!.

The next fish was his and was the biggy of the day at 16.3.

    post-2842-0-99965800-1332114543_thumb.jp

Now just so you don't think make $hit u,p I'm not sure if he or I caught the next one. He probably did, to be honest, but I think I caught two today. I do know I lost one which slipped the hook and a second because I put too much pressure on him trying to keep it away from a sign in the water.

    post-2842-0-99746700-1332114690_thumb.jp

All throughout the day Matt did get a lot of exercise running down to his rods and then loosing the fish which were faster than him and getting into some submerged brush and (xmas) trees. I'd guess he lost about 6 fish that way and I don't know how much terminal tackle.

Matt, from what I observed doesn't actually land a lot of fish. When he does get one up on shore, the fun part just begins as you can see from the following depiction of his releasing technique.

(Please excuse the poor framing, things were happening very quickly.)

The following is the last fish of the day and he 'almost' got ahold of it.

    post-2842-0-40848400-1332115147_thumb.jp

About 5:30 he turned his back for a minute and I managed to get away, However, before got to the end of the block he called begging to meet him in Ferderalsburg, MD where Franklin and I fish. I could tell he was getting emotional again, so I agree.

This ends today's report, but I'm afraid I'll have to do another Tuesday.

BTW, just a 'tad' of this report may be a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Every report should be a little instructive, so I'll ad this graphic.

  10. New reels have new line.

Rods will be here this week (hopefully).

Weather in the 60-70s Saturday (Maybe).

Y'all are going to get your butts handed to you at HP.

Normally, I'd say virgin rods and reels are a handicap, but against you three, I WILL PREVAIL... :jumpy:

In any event it won't be long now.............

    post-2842-0-88381900-1331402968_thumb.jp

My apologies to you Mark, I should have included you ............

  11. Proud of you as a father.

Nice to know a father that raises a son like that.

You can be proud of him.

Now, let's talk ATC. IF you have registered, feel free to send air fare for Franklin and I to fish for you. We will also need lodging cost, but will take care of most of you food. You can ship your bait to us down there. I'll check to see what it will cost to ship our gear. PM me for my phone # and address for the RT 1st class tickets.............

If you think of anything else we will need, let me know.

P.S. how do I turn blue to green for a Theme?
