  1. My internatinal buddy and I packed up the expedition and headed towards Dale Hollow Lake on Friday morning. This was a long trip in the planning since he is here from England on vacation. We pulled out around 5 a.m. on friday. We had a good stop at cracker barrel to fill the stomach. We arrived at the lake around 12p.m.Like i say we were in no rush just wanted to take in the scenery and the fellowship between two buddys. After looking at a lake contour map we decided on a semi-secluded swim.We were both pleased with the area.So we eagerly unloaded everything and set up bivvys and chairs and pods. After mixing up some method we began marker floating the area and what to our surprise was massive amounts of WEED!!! It seemed like everywhere we threw was weed.So we started playing with the markers and found the weed ended about 60-70 yards out.Keith decided to fish the open areas and i decided to fish the distance. So after it seemed like i was getting carpel tunnel in my arms from spodding,i got my rods in.Finally we were fishing. We got settled in around 4 p.m.We met a fellow along the lakeside bass fishing who happen to be a local business owner at one time in my hometown. He was just a very hospitable guy.He made it a point to come check on us every morning and every evening while we were there. We sat and talked about the lake and how beautiful it was and the things we saw on the drive down, just trying to amuse ourselves in the wait of a proper pull down,as ol`captain would say..lol.But the fish never came.So being tired we climbed in our bed chairs and went to sleep. We awoke on saturday morning to a bit of wind and boats.Keith and i kept patient and kept on spodding and chumming with hopes of a take, but it never came. Now by late saturday afternoon my patients were growing thin by no action anywhere the fish were not rolling,no line nocks, nothing. Then outta no where Keiths alarm goes off, i was thinking its about time, and what to my surprise it was a 4+ lb smallmouth on a boilie. The catch was great for a bass fisherman but thats not what we were there for.So i left and went and markered another swim,....WEED, there too.So we made the decision to stay and just chum it up before nightfall. So we had a great dinner at the campsite which was some great spaghetti. We layed down for the night and went to sleep.at 12:45a.m. i had a single pip on my remote.Which i thought was a low battery pip you get with delks.Nope it was a line knock, then a full run, then nothing. The alarm silenced and i was outta the bivvy by now.Discouraged by the drop, i am thinking $%#@ channel cats. Then it goes into a all out bolt.So i picked up the rod,set the hook, and it felt like a frieght train. After the battle we weight the beast and to my surprise she came in at 30.2lbs.we put her in the sack for later pics in the daytime. So now it was time to make this happen for my buddy. He was convinced that being out past the weed is where to be.So we chummed up the area and got his rods out at the distance. Then after being patient and just enjoying thee surroundings to the fullest,Keiths rod takes off.It was a blistering run to say the least. When the ol`bloke leaned into the fish i knew this englishman was gonna take a ride, and he did.The carp he had on gave him everything that he came for and then some.Well my friend won the battle and he had a PIG.We got the beast in the weigh sling and on the heatons. She settled in 31.8lbs.OMG to buddys just went to a unknown swim and their first fish are in the thirties, holy crap we were excited now.NOTHING,could pull us from that swim now.The trip was fulfilled now.We ate,we laughed,we high fived. The local fellow Tom got to see it all and was just amazed at the gear, the fish, and our teamwork as friends.Like someone has told me and i am a firm believer.A few days on the bank with a friend is priceless, the fish is just a bonus. So we relaxed and fixed some grilled shrimp and had dinner.Later on in the night i landed a 21lb even.Keith landed a 24lb even.By now we were just in awe how well the big fish had blessed our rods. The trip ended on monday morning. We had landed a few more fish in the high teens while packing up and we decide to release them and get home. This was the best trip i had ever had outta state.Dale Hollow was just beautiful. This was a awesome experience for the both of us as friends, and fishermen. So here are a few pics,i dont have them all, some are on Keiths camera and i hope he gets them on here. The pics i have are from a cell and the quality isn`t all that great. He has better pics.I just wanted to share the story outta excitement.

Here is a few pics of the swim.

  2. I fish a lake occasionally that has stocked well over 200 grass carp in the last 20 years or so.Heres the question.Do you think that many amour can starve out the common carp in a lake???? I can go there and catch grassies just about anytime i want, but no commons have came outta there to my knowledge. Now i am not saying they are all gone in the lake but i think something has gotta give with that many amour in the lake. What you guys and gals opinion?

  3. Thats hilarious! You know that must be a Barney Fife!!! River Rick and myself have already met ERNEST T at the ramp. You guys really gotta meet that guy!I think that boat ramp is a purgatory for long lost Mayberry Folk! LMAO I really wanted to be there with the Ohio crew but life happens and had to work.Sounds like it was an event to remember.Let us all know if you plan to frequent Ohio again!!!!!!

  4. My buddy River Rick and I finally got to get together after a long winters hybernation. The B.S. was just as thick as we left it last year. The carp were a little slow but as soon as they smelled an old friend they cooperated for the goose anyways. So here is a couple pics of the day and one of the resident thieves, notice the green head??
