  1. well me and steve decided to go to lady bird for some fishing. we set up at a favorite spot among us both cause iv had a pb there and it has produced well. steve shows up at my house at 2am, after loading up the truck, getting gas,we are on the road. we arrive at our spot about 5.15am and start the unpacking. i had brought my large cargo wagon so it made things somewhat easier, then making multiple trips. when daylight hit about 6.30 we was the floating junk on the water and i thought that it wouldnt be to big of a problem. so i left to go get coffie and hot chocolate, while on the way back, i get a call saying that all 6 of our lines has just been taken away by the floating stuff, and they had started releasing water. GREAT.

so we pack up and decide to move up to another spot after doing a coin toss lol. after getting unpacked again and set up we both settled in for the wait. after a few hours, its noe 11.30 with nothing to show, so i start to think of a video i saw here where the guy said moving spots can prove to be a good thing.

so i get the phone out and look up decker lake and see its 12 miles away and i yell out "lets go to decker we can be there in 20 minutes". so we packer up again, and headed out.

its now 12.45 and we arrive at decker and unload once again. right off i get a couple catfish, which to me is good. so i was hopefull. soon after the buffalo decided to play and we landed 6 fish between 17 pounds and 38 pounds. i was hoping for a bigger one but beggers cant be choosers.

  2. cool deal guys thanks for the tips.i do indeed have a ton of bright colored baits (mostly mainline popups fluro colors) . i take me some oat pack and give it a try next week. this weekend im headed to cedar hill state park for a wcc event and a chance to win some great prizes.

  3. well i got board and decided to take a trip down to the state park 5 miles from me. its $2 for entry fee for all day till 10pm.

i drove around all the camp sites and was disapointed that none of them could be fished from due to the mass of cat tails and brush, but the sites themselves looked good, even the shelters looked good. there is 2 docks that you can fish from. the lake to me looks really carpy with the mass of cat tails along the bank all the way around the entire lake. the water is heavly stained almost to a mud color. i dont know if this would be ideal for a huge fish in but might could do a few ppl. i plan to go back one day and try for some carp and buffs to see what happens.

any ideas on how to fish water that is heavy stained to muddy?

  4. Great fish Chris! Hopefully those weeds start to loosen-up for you after a few sessions like this one! maybe that lump would've broke 30 if it managed to stay in 1 piece

HAHA I know, funny thing about that lake is some of the larger fish have missing tails or deformed tails.

  5. well i knew there was a cold front headed my way, so i wanted to get out before it. after talking with a friend we decided to hit athens lake. i left out at 5am and on the way there i decided to shoot some video. once i got close he called me said he wasent ready, so i stopped off at the maina and threw for a bass or 2 while i waited for is call back. Then it was off to his house and back to the lake to head out.

we headed out to a island that i named fish island, its always produced some good fish for us but i didnt know that i would have some difficulty through the night. we got to the island around 8.45 and got setup. and i had all my lines in around 11 am. i had to put fresh lines on 5 rods and tie rigs for all lol.

after all that we was set up and waiting. my buddy was catching perch for the kittys and i was kicking back waiting for a carp. about5 hours later i got a take and the fight was on. the fish felt heavy but with the spotty weed beds its hard to tell what you got on, so i jumped in the boat and stood on a cooler to get higher up. the fish tried to take me in a few snags, thank god i respooled lol. after a short fight and some tense moments, i we landed a 29 common with half a tale. after its release i went to rebait the other rods, and 2 was snagged up. had to break one, the other came free after going out in the boat to free it.

as night came i got beeps and line bites but no carp, although the catfish was very active and kept me away most of the night. friday morning came and i settled down for a cat nap but that didnt last to long.

i had 3 runs early morning, a 16.4 and a 8 pounder that i didnt get pics of. the last fish was a scrappy 19 that was a battle. im off down the back throwing for bass when i hear the take, i fish a pretty tight drag due to weeds but this fish bust have had a redbull cause it was screaming. when i lifted up i could tell it was snagged up but not totally snagged, so we jumoed un the boat and took off after it. the line was in 3 different weed patches and after a zig zag pattern i managed to free the line. after that the fish headed out to open water and hit the gas, we chased this fish 150-175 yards off the island and finally netted it, i thought forsure it was a 20 plus but the scale said 19 even. so i took it. while we took a few pics and released the fish, the boat drifted off the bank and was floating down the lake towards the shore. my buddy had to swim across a channel and run down the bank after it. but he got it back. after that we packed it in and headed home. here are a few pics. enjoy.
