save your money on the maize as well by buying it from a feed store or walmart and after you soak it for 2 days boil it for about 45minutes. When cooling down add a few cap fulls of Carp juice or other flavoring . I separate my corn in freezer bags with the flAVORED WATER and store them after I let the flavor soak in for 24hours

read as many post on here as you can and check out http://www.flyanglersonline.com/ as well

I heard catching a mirror from a pond doesn't count if you've been carp fishing for over 5 years
-
yeah, Neil called me as well with the good news. I was trying my luck with grassers this weekend and only caught commons so didn't get to fish with Neil , but that was prolly a good thing since I might have got the mirror instead.
Wayne did he catch it on a K! boilie? I've had good luck there with tutti frutti and told Neil to try it as well

I have the book and it is ok. Nothing like just getting out there and doing it in person. The trick is finding them feeding. Not much blind casting done fishing for carp unless you are working the "seam" at a tailrace. You just have to visibly see them or have an eye above you telling you where to cast and when to strip. It is very much like fishing for redfish or bonefish on the flats

I tie but am too lazy for a swap.

you'll be fine with a 5wt, anything smaller is going to make your reel quality important. for larger carp you may want to step up to a 8 wt

sight fishing for carp is one of the most thrilling experiences out there in freshwater but can drive you mad . Look for tailraces , rivers around dams and spillways or ponds. For tailraces I baitfish patterns work good for some reason like clouser minnows. For all others nymphs and woolly buggers are good choices. Another option is look for marinas were they feed carp bread or chips and tie a fly that looks like bread out of white foam and cast into the may lay . With a carp you will more than likely have to take them to the reel so pay attention how your line is laying when you try to keep resistance but allow slack while reeling in the excess.
You know, you couldn't have picked a tougher fish to catch on the fly for just getting back into it

Texas crawfish. I tie these myself and the pattern is very easy.

actually it a 5-1 ratio of commons to mirrors in that pond so far but who's counting?
