  1. Oh!

And Terry Hearn the greatest Carp angler without doubt! Not sure he is a member on here :)

I met him once didn't know who he was as i didnt follow the "names" he was a guy fishing the next swim round the corner from me we spoke for a few minutes and i left it at that, when i got back to my swim the guy fishing the other side asked me if i spoke to the first guy in a manner that lead me to think i should have had an appointment, to which i replied yes he seemed like a decent bloke, he then said you know who that is its T.H he's the top rod etc round these parts the bloke was a bit put out that i just spoke to him, sorta puzzled me as to what the deal was at the time :P

Theres a bunch of people i'd like to fish with on here but i'd be happy to fish with any of you ive not met before :D

Why the concern for a light line thru the lead? Anglers have done that since forever. If anything, I would suggest that thin lines might cut into a plastic sleeve and jam. Whereas lead would probably just groove if anything, it has no tensile strength to spring back and lock a line. The line would merely remove material or splay it out.

In my lifetime experience with sliding lead weights, I noticed the line sometimes wore the ends of the holes to a bell shape, and I've never ever experienced a line jam.

In conclusion I would put my money on the fault of the angler not their tackle. How many check their end tackle after every retrieve?

    No snickers please! :)

As you say but if the sinkers hit hard bottom a few times and ends up with rough edges this could damage the line, wasn't thinking of it getting pinched on, i reckon your conclusion is about right.

  3. One thought about the break offs, i see a lot of people using drilled or 'in line' egg sinkers, they allways look like theyre using 30lb line so they wouldnt suffer the breaks, but if your using lighter line what is the condition of the edge of the hole thru the lead,as the ones in the shops dont have line friendly plastic inserts, of course this is assuming your using this type of sinker.

  4. I t was a late decision to enter on James and my part but the sun moon and stars lined up so we gave it a shot, we arrived at our spot around midday on new years eve and got set up conditions were nice, mild for the time of year with a gentle breeze dull and overcast.

Ive fished on my birthday which is new years eve on several occasions before and a birthday carp has to my recollection always eluded me but this time as it was going to be different just as it started to get dark my right rod let out a few blleps and i was in, turned out to be an 18.8 LB common nice birthday present for sure. After this things were looking hopefull for m/nightonwards anyway there were no more signs of anything fish wise, when at midnight as were about to reel in and re-cast there was an almighty whoosh and bang from further down the lake, some one had put out a large raft and was launching a massive amount of fireworks from it, didn't rush to recast till the fireworks stopped, with the phone calls to them that matter out of the way we recast, we were thinking that the fireworks would be the kiss of death but within ten minutes of them stopping the carp started mving in the swim it must have woken them up!

James got the first one at 12.49 and it went 20.2 LB to say we were pleased would be an understatement, anyway the results for the rest of the night went as follows:

    James 3 AM 14.00Lb

    James 3.45AM 17.12Lb

    Me 4.19AM 16.9 Lb

    Me 5.55AM 20.4 Lb

    Me 7.33AM 13.4 Lb

We fished on till around 11.30 am and then headed home.

the edit button dissapeared 7.33 am fish should have said 13.14 and only 1 pic came up so theyre in the next post.

I'm genuinely very sorry that your fishery got wasted. I've had a couple of my favorite pike fisheries destroyed back in my UK days and it really sucked! :yourock:

However, I think you (and Brid, apparently) have an utterly naive view of the status of CAG and its potential for action over this. Let's face it, even if every single CAG member had gone to Illinois and physically blockaded the boat launch in opposition to the fish-kill it would have still gone ahead........after a short delay while a few of us were carted off by the cops.

Yes, we would have got some publicity, but of the worst possible kind. At a stroke pretty much every angler fishing in the Great Lakes region would perceive CAG as crazy obsessives only one step removed from PETA. We may not like it but carp fishing in the US, though growing, is still hardly on the radar screens of most anglers, let alone the general public. Until that changes I think we have little choice but to tread carefully in the public arena.

    Sad but true.

I thought Mickeys suggestion of the ice barrier was along the right lines, just about complicated enough that a load of beaurocrats can still justify their jobs where as a bunch of nets would be way too simple for a team of experts to suggest.

All them fish dead like that was really sad but in the greater scheme of things hopefully its a temporary blip.

  8. bait,

Their rods don't seem to "load" like a carp rod do they? It looks more like the US type action. Or, rather, I guess the US rods are more like those used in Japan.

 depends what carp rod fast or slow taper(thru action), they look fast taper to me, if theyre built for tournament casting i would imagine theyre not so good for playing a fish thats the compromise with carp rods

  9. Thanks for the replys guys kinda thought it looks like something made by some long gone ancient goldsmith, i definitly think its nature at work and not any kind of damage control another mirror from there has similar scales, just that the tiny ones arn't all over, just patches.

  10. Caught this little one recently thought it a bit unusual as at first looks like a linear mirror but the parts that would normally be flesh are totally covered in tiny scales.

PS caught it using an ex Niel Stern delk, might have to send them back if the fish dont get any bigger
