I believe its a fine idea, but the same names as was previously mentioned most likely will win. A lot of CAG members aren't near, or in this day and time can afford the money to travel to waters that might contain the size fish needed to win. Some members seem to be fantastic anglers while others can never experience such captures as those lucky enought to have the time, funds, or waters within reach to bank fish the size needed to compete. I don't want to sound like "sour grapes" I believe a lot of CAG memebers won't even bother knowing they have a very little chance as the few who have regular or multible huge fish catchs, sometimes in just a day session, are hard to compete with. I'm not against yearly contests but I believe they should be a bit more of a equal chance for all
Spot on with this, myself i dont really do the compettive thing often so i'm not so worried, but it kinda does exclude a lot of people that may like to enter things, hey but its a nice idea

Looks like a great day out for all of you :DDirector

baitbucket,
Do you mean on the rig in the photo or any rig?
Phone
Appoligies for not being clearer Phone, Not the helicopter rig in the photo, just a regular set up with a lead clip i'll describe to save any more confusion:
Onto mainline place a length of anti tangle tube(optional)
follow with tail rubber and then leadclip
tie on swivel to match size of lead clip
then tie on your braided hooklenght with whatever hook you deem fit for your situation
Add your desired lead/sinker to the lead clip
Put on bait and lob into the great blue yonder
-
If youve got an idea as to how deep the silt is with a braid hooklink on a regular lead clip just a little longer and not pulling back after youve cast leaves the bait ontop, hides most of the rig and adds to the bolt effect.

If they were regular carp/koi variations they would probably have barbels, look like goldfish to me, when theyve bred a couple of times in the wild they lose the orange colour and look more like commons.

Ive not seen this "white paper" am i to assume that you tip bait all over the ice just as it snows again so its frozen in and drops at the melt? Almost makes me wish we got ice here with ideas like that

Thats a nice fish, before i read it i thought you were posting a pic of Bill Engval, i could really see that going down well on the redneck comedy tour. Always good when you just sneak a quick session in and it turns up the goods.

Odd, ive read a couple of times recently people recomending to pull the lead back a bit after it lands on the bottom, i was always under the impression that this pulls the hooklink (which is above the lead as the lead enters the silt ) down into the silt behind the lead burying the bait in the process, i used to fish a place that was on average about 4' deep, with silt, not the rancid stuff, that was on average around 1' deep some places it was nearly 2' the casting range there was 70 to 120 yards. At first i used to pull back and takes were few and far between when i heard that pulling back was supposed to pull the bait down in behind the lead i started to leave it just where it landed which was hard to get used to at first and as said before feathering the lead down is good advice, on average a 9'' to 12'' hooklength seemed to work best there, after this i did get more fish, even on single chick peas at this range, they would find it in the silt, i think this set up would leave the bait either just under the surface or on top with very little line exposed. Balanced baits didn't make much difference unless the hooklink was long enough to garantee it on top of the silt. This was around the early 80's and i did pull in some line someone had lost that had a helicopter rig on it pushed up the line about 2' i could see the thinking behind it, tried it a couple of times but never got a take on the set up (could just have been coincidence).
Not saying i'm right this is just my experiance in this situation, hope its of some help or at least food for thought

Now that it is the off season (mostly). Lets have some fun and show everyone your best Scott Osmond!!!! Or shall I say Carp Huna!!!!!!!!!!
Does this mean weve all got to get topless pics in the bathroom

the potential over there is so huge it seems petty to get hung up over a particular swim on a 500 mile river that's chock full of big fish. Correct me if I'm wrong mate I just find it hard to believe
You are right the potential is huge, but not everywhere here is a 500 mile long river, i cant speak for elswhere in the US but where i'm at except for small park lakes/duck ponds on most lakes the access to fishable bank space really sucks so there is a potential for somewhere good to get a pasting from the wrong people or just plain crowded, the CA delta is a massive system but if you get the map out and look at the parts you can fish from the bank your choice's are really narrowed down, just recently we lost a section due to the trash artists, these reasons make you a bit wary of posting too much info. I know someone a 1000 miles away wouldnt give a flying wotsit but there are people more local to any ones area that may use the info that someone posted. The meat eaters here will take anything with fins no matter how big and anything up to 10 legs is also fair game
Anyway just some additional thoughts or another angle

Electric , looks like it got a nasty shock at some earlier time in its life and some sadistic &$(7 lopped a bit off its tail just to insult it.

I would do the same as many others here, get as many witnesses as you can from nearby weigh it a couple of times take the pics and send it back the people that care about carp would see it as a record, why kill it to get a record that the rest of the angling public dont give a dam about.
This has happened to me twice before, the first time i caught a 9.5lb goldfish and let it go, a friend told me a bit later that the world record was 6.10lb which was a surprise to me as i thought it was probably bigger than that anyway, then a couple of months later i landed a 7.9lb goldfish and was more than happy to put it back, now time has passed even if i had claimed the record it would still be a memory and a bit of paper in a drawer somewhere with all the other crap!
