  1. All I could see was being on the bank and waiting for the next character to come by and share a little story. I did a lot of fishing yesterday and some mighty fine catching too. Just not fish. (I hate to blank). The destination IS the journey and I was not disappointed. I'm not sure though but I think at one point I even got a pre- bump twitch on my left rod.

  2. Well my name is Tim "Cool Dad" Gill and I hang out with the Captain and Big Bird. I have thought about all the clever things I could say at this point but Bird and the Captain can say them a lot better. I like fishing for Carp but sometimes I just like being there. I'm old but I still get excited when I go Carp fishing. I think the journey is more important than the destination. I'm a people watcher. I love a good story. Breakfast is important but not as important as a good sunrise. Friendship is more important than breakfast or a good sunrise. I'm blessed.

  3. Ole' Cap,

You're getting pretty fancy with this 'puter and camera stuff. LOOKS GREAT! We may just have to move you out of the "good ol boy" catagory.

That reel warms the cockles of my heart. I say that alot. Finally I Googled it.

"warm the cockles of your heart".

It’s one of the more lovely idioms in the language, isn’t it? Something that warms the cockles of one’s heart induces a glow of pleasure, sympathy, affection, or some such similar emotion. What gets warmed is the innermost part of one’s being. It’s not that surprising that it should be associated with the heart, that being the presumed seat of the emotions for most people.

    But what are the cockles?

We’re not sure. We do know that the expression turns up first in the middle of the seventeenth century, and that the earliest form of the idiom was "rejoice the cockles of one’s heart". Phone, after reading all of that it reminds me of another saying from the distant past ----- Gerd your loins.

Cockles are a type of bivalve mollusc, once a staple part of the diet for many British people (you may recall that Sweet Molly Malone once wheeled her wheelbarrow through Dublin’s fair city, crying “cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh!”). They are frequently heart-shaped (their formal zoological genus was at one time Cardium, of the heart), with ribbed shells.

    Well, Zebco's do that.

  4. Great sharing bank space with you Chak. You put a spanking on me and Bird. Na ---- We just had a great time and I learned a lot. I hope I redeemed myself with my " net boy " skills this time rather than beating them off the hook like at that fish-in a couple of years ago. I also learned about landing matt etiquette. I hope we get to fish together again soon. I love that spot and it sure is gonna be warmer down there this winter. If I can just keep Big Bird and his camera out from behind me------

  5. Looks like you, Tim and the carphound had a fantastic day. Horace congrats on the Mirror. That is a beaut !

I love the vids. You guys always manage to capture the spirit of how all of us feel on the bank.

I am just glad you didn't take Tim out with that big chicken wing of yours when he brought up your PB !

And, Tim, nice to see that reel out getting fished and banking carp !

For a couple of not so "old" guys, you guys got it goin on ! :)

I got just two words for you John ----- Watts Bar
  6. Thanks Horace. I know some of the folks on CAG and indeed know some that have been bickering lately. It has worried me some as I know these are good people and Carpers. I love to meet new people on the bank and do much of my fishing without even putting a line in the water. How else would I have met Big Bird or Redcoat or Zoomie or Franklin and lots of other fantastic people who are not the same but are way cool. I even like some of those folks that go after other types of fish although I dont know why. Anyhow that was well said Horace.( I wish I could talk like that). I will try to do better myself on a personal note and I hope others will too. It's not often we get called before the mast by the Ol Captain and I for one will take heed.

  7. Zoomie,

Interesting photos from this aspect. The first mirror, the second mirror and the commons are not closely related. I doubt they are even close enough to "cross breed" in the wild. I only know of a half dozen or so lakes that carry those three multiple strains of common carp. Usually they become reverted. That is an interesting pond. Tell us more without revealing any "secrets" you wish to keep.

I'll even go out on a limb and tell you the first mirror cannot be taken on cereal based bait. They are nearly 100% carniviorus.(sp).

I can only guess that Zoomie opened up a vein and dribbled a little on some chicken livers.
