  1. Congrats on the great fishing! Too bad about the camera. Does Commerce have cool water temps? Using a kayak sounds like a good way to catch some unique fish(lets you nique up on them B) )

Actually the water was unusally cool up on those shallow flats I got a reading of 80, verses the lower part of the lake at 87.

  2. Took the yak out today to the watershed from daybreak till around 3 and I slayed em. I took 4 rods with me today: my 2 trusty uglysticks, my noodle float rod, and my 6wt fly rod. I ended up with the magic number of 27 carp and 3 catfish. Here is the break down by rod:

noodle/float rod- caught 4 and lost twice as many, smallest one was 5 and the biggest was right at 6.7 lbs. what a blast on an 11' ultralite.

6wt flyrod- caught 7. all came on a black lead eyed bugger and all were tailing. Smallest one was 7.5 lbs. and the biggest was my personal best on the fly at 20.5 lbs.

The uglysticks caught the rest and the small cats. they all came on either a oat pack or a grit pack, they had no preferance. Smallest on was just over 3 lbs. and the biggest ended up being and even 24lbs. and causing me to get in deep doodooo.(I will explain later)

I got drug all over the upper end of that lake today(hence sleigh ride). I also scoped out some new areas and got some depth readings for the upper half of the lake. All of my fish came from 2 feet of water or less and nowhere near deeper water. I will tell you what I did see, and that is one carp that was tailing in 4 feet of water. Not porposing I am talking nose down in the mud stirring it up and his tail(bigger than my 2 hands together) waving so beautifully at me. I tried to get him on the fly rod but after 3 casts he disapeared. Now I sit here in the doghouse and here is why: I did something today that I should of never done. I took my wife's camera out with me today. I took tons of photos at least one of every fish and lots of scenery. Then the unthinkable happened. I had the big boy laying in my lap for a pose and he flopped hiting me in the face. All I know is I heard 2 splashes, one was him and one was my wifes $300 camera. Needless to say as I type this I am in the doghouse big time!!!

  3. It was great seeing everyone again, and meeting some new faces. I hated I had to leave early. I am glad yall had a good time. Yall come on back up this way again, and maybe the fish will be a little more coopertive. Coweta you have the PB for the smallest carp I have seen come out of there!! Both Coweta and BigBird Lost a good fish apiece. As for me, after I ate most of my oat bait I took a nice long nap. It was just nice to get out and fish and relax among friends(sure beats fishing by yourself).Hopefully soon I will be able to make back down to the Hooch.

  4. While I do love Grits, I would be chunkin Oats or probably millet. Andy at Resistance can put you onto the millet pack most any flavor you might choose. I don't think its your flavors just your choice of bait and the water temp. Its just that time of the year.

    jmho

    Tom.

Thanks I will try that next time.
