  1. Two Questions:

    1. As the CAG BOD have decreed this as a Buddy Weigh event, I'm wondering if Team Stout (Christine, Sydney, and Tony) and I can fish, too? I'm happy to be available to help with any problems or resolve any questions as guest official; if I don't get a call it would be fun to just pleasure fish? I'm sure Team Stout feel the same, and I'm sure none of us mind "being on call" if we are needed for advice/decisions, in our drawn Sections or other Sections.

    2. As there are so many Anglers not arriving until Saturday morning, I'm going to suggest I start the Peg Draw at 5:30am, in the order Anglers have signed up for the event (as posted by Jerome earlier). If everyone driving in on Saturday can arrive by 5:30am, and if Jerome & Tony take care of those Saturday sign-ups, we should have everyone drawn for their pegs by shortly after 6 and on their way to their pegs for the 7:00am start.

Draw Location is the Parking Lot opposite Lakehaven Hall, 96 Ellis St, Kewaunee, WI 54216, at 5:30am. This is also Section A, so some will have a VERY short drive to their pegs.

  2. Hi Frank, I'm traveling this week; I don't believe I have access to the "sign-up page"... So I don't know exactly how many will be attending? I'm sure someone will post a current list soon, as I need to:

    1. Arrange with Tony Stout to peg the venue, starting at 2:30pm on Friday. I want to be sure I give everyone as equal a chance as possible of catching a big fish. I'm watching the weather conditions next week & will make final decisions on pegs that Friday morning. I believe it's about 20 signed up (based on Jerome's notes), and I know of another 4 or 5 who are possibles and Dave Hubbard (former Kewaunee Karp-In Champion), who will be joining CAG and paying his CCC entry fee Friday evening. So, plan on a similar peg and section layout to the 2016 Kewaunee International, with no pegs at the Gas Station and a corresponding few extra on the harbor wall, on the channel wall to the private Marina,  or upstream of the Bridge.

    2. Warn Randy at the Port o' Call on how many Anglers to expect for the Saturday Buffet, so he can prepare & cook accordingly. He also needs to know how many Anglers, so he can present Jerome and Bob with the Bill; likely to be a short but emotional ceremony at the end of the festivities on Saturday evening? LOL

As a final note... Yes, every Kewaunee peg that has produced a 40 plus carp this year WILL be included in the CCC.

  3. Quick Update to the Timeline of Events:

Friday evening - A table on the Covered Deck at the Port o' Call (CCC will use the Covered Deck both evenings) will be set aside for those willing/interested in the need to market fleas, sell or swap items of carp fishing tackle, etc. I don't know if CAG is taking a percentage of all sales made; that may just be a scurrilous rumor?

Due to the number of Anglers who can't make Friday evening, BUT fear the idea of me drawing a peg for them, the Peg Draw will now take place at 5:45am on SATURDAY, before the Fishing starts at 7:00am. Hopefully, everyone traveling in early on Saturday will have pre-registered for the CCC. I'm asking that all Anglers coming in on Saturday to please arrive BY 5:30am, so I can make sure they are ready to go with Waivers signed, Scales checked (if needed), before the Peg Draw starts.

Location of Peg Draw & Map of Sections & Pegs to follow, once I have a clear idea of how many pegs needed.

  4. Guys, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but... Unless Tony has perfected his Cloning Device AND given his Tony #2 Clone the CCC Peg Markers & some transport to be at Kewaunee by 1:00pm... He's in grave danger of having to be in two geospatially different points, at the same time?

The other, discomforting thought is... Would this World be a better or worse place, with two Tony's running around in it? One of the Great Questions of Our Time...

  5. In an attempt to move the CCC Rules subject along, I've taken the liberty of suggesting the following Rules. As Host Official, I can confirm that these are tried & tested rules in force for C&R Carp Tournaments in WI over the last decade, so I'm reasonably confident that they will help us all enjoy a fair & friendly tournament.

    Suggested 2016 CCC Rules:

    1. Prizes for this event will be as determined by CAG BOD; at a minimum there shall be prizes for the biggest carp, and biggest 4 carp (total weight of 4 biggest carp caught by angler). The Peg Draw shall start no later than 6:00am on Saturday morning (Anglers who are arriving early in the morning must register and have their scales checked before 5:30am), with Fishing from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The Award Ceremony will follow at the advertised time & place.

    2. All anglers must hold a valid WI fishing license. All anglers must have pre-registered and have pre-paid all entry fees before the draw. All pre-fishing must end along the venue and within the City limits of Kewaunee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd; any competitor found pre-baiting, plumbing, or fishing after this time and before the official start of the competition will be disqualified, and their entry fees forfeited

    3. This is a catch-and-release competition; no fish will be weighed unless it was caught fairly (hook must be within 2 inches of the fishes mouth), has been handled safely, and can be released alive.

    4. Any angler found attempting to weigh in fish that are snagged, foul-hooked (hook is in a part of the fish’s body more than 2 inches from the mouth) or caught by any other unfair means will be disqualified from the competition. The Weigh Officials decision in all such cases shall be final.

    5. Only Carp can be weighed in and counted for any awards or prizes. All other fish (including Game Fish) do not count, and must be returned immediately to the water. Anyone attempting to retain a Game Fish will be disqualified from the competition.

    6. There will be a random, fixed peg draw. Only one peg can be drawn on the day. If 2 Anglers wish to fish together, they must make themselves known to the Draw Official (Tony Stout) on Friday evening before the Peg Draw; one Angler will draw their peg where both Anglers will fish. No more than 2 Anglers will be allowed to fish at any peg. Each angler must fish and place all of their fishing equipment within a rod-length (12 feet) either side of their peg. Anglers can cast to any point up to half way between their peg and the pegs on either side, or up to 15 yards from their peg in the case of end peg in the section. Any infringements in placing their fishing equipment more than 12 feet from their peg, or in attempted casting outside their peg area, will make the Angler concerned liable for disqualification from the competition.

    7. Big Carp are hard-fighting fish; there may be a need for an angler to leave their peg location momentarily, to play a fish that is running parallel to the bank. Please be considerate of other anglerstry and avoid playing your fish in their pegged areas. Adjacent pegged anglers are encouraged to help an angler in difficulties with a big fish by removing their lines from the water while the fish is being played. Neighboring Anglers can help by netting fish or removing other rods for the Angler; no other assistance is allowed.

    8. Anglers may leave their pegged area to answer a call of nature, etc. If the angler intends to return to their peg, all lines must be reeled in before leaving. If the angler wishes to leave during the competition, they need to record their leaving time with the Anglers either side of them, and remove all their equipment from their pegged area. Anglers must be present at the end of the Awards Ceremony after competition closes to be eligible for any prizes and awards.

    9. No boats, bait-boats or wading, use of floatation devices or swimming (except in an emergency!); fishing from the shoreline only. Exception – an angler can enter the water by authorization from a Weigh Offficial or Angler at the next peg, to free a fish caught in a snag, weed or otherwise in distress or possible danger. Please ensure that you receive a verbal authorization from the Angler at the next peg or Official present before you enter the water.

    10. Only 3 rods per angler may be used at any time, with 1 single hook per rod. Hooks can be no larger than a size 1, recommended hook patterns are barbless and micro-barbed (e.g. a standard Carp Hook), or have the barb squeezed down with pliers. Hooks larger than a size 1, multiple hooks, double or treble hooks and hooks with an oversized barb are not allowed. Weigh Officials have the right to inspect angler’s hooks, and can disallow fish caught on any other type of hook; Weigh Officials decision in all such cases will be final. The angler can use an additional rod for spodding, spombing, or controlling a marker float; no fishhooks can be attached to any part of the line on this rod. The angler can have additional rods pre-rigged at the peg; but they can only have a maximum of three baits in the water at any time. Any angler found breaking these rules or fishing or attempting to fish in an unsportsmanlike way will be disqualified from the competition. Any angler breaking the 3 rod3 hook competition rules will be disqualified from the competition.

    11. Required for each angler: a well-padded unhooking mat, a carp-specific weigh sling, a set of scales & tripod/monopod for weighing the fish, and at least 1 mesh UK style/CAG approved & well ventilated carp sack (for retaining fish in the water before weighing), and a soft, knotless mesh “fish friendly” landing net of the appropriate size.  Anglers will not be allowed to count fish towards their total if they do not have a suitable mat and landing net.

    12. No breaking of the water is allowed before the start of the competition, except to plumb the depth, position a marker float, wet nets, unhooking mats and carp-sacks. Anglers are allowed to draw a small amount of water in a suitable bucket or pail, to wet and prepare groundbait (chum).

    13. The competition will start promptly at the advertised time; fishing time will be signaled by one long blast on a car horn or by Weigh Officials. The fishing period will last a maximum of 8 hours with competition close announced by two long blasts on a car horn or Weigh Stewards. All fishing lines must be removed promptly at the end of the competition. Any angler playing a fish when the competition end is announced must call out and signal “Fish On”. The angler will have a maximum of 15 minutes to play the fish in and net it; timekeeping will be the responsibility of the Anglers at adjacent pegs

    14. Baits allowed are; human food-quality baits such as bread, corn, beans, carp-safe boiled baits, pellet and paste baits, etc. The rule here is that the angler must be prepared to taste the bait, to prove it is safe for the fish! In addition, anglers can use natural baits; worms, nightcrawlers, maggots, mealworms, waxworms, crickets and hellgrammites, etc. A maximum of One artificial bait, attached to each hook/hair rig system (e.g. artificial corn, boilie, crayfish fly, etc.) can be used, but no spoons, plugs, jigs, oother metal lures can be used. No Live or dead whole or cut fish, stink baits or other smelly catfish-type baits are allowed! Weigh Officials have the right to inspect all baits, and disallow any bait they deem illegal, offensive or dangerous.

    15. Bait Limit: Anglers cannot bring and throw into the water more bait than will fit inside a standard 5 gallon pail; only this bait to be used for groundbaiting or loosefeeding during the tournament.Anglers will bring their 5 gallon pail of bait to the peg draw for inspection; no angler will be allowed to draw otherwise. This Bait Limit does NOT include small pots of hook baits (e.g. Boilies, Pop Ups, Wafters, flavored corn pots, etc.), but DOES INCLUDE all cans of sweet corn (cream style or whole kernel). Any Angler suspected or attempting to use more than the allowed bait limit will be disqualified from the competition; the Weigh Officials judgement will in all such cases be final.

    16. All standard, Carp-safe rigs are allowed; all rigs should include either a Safety Clip or allow the lead/sinker to slide over knots in the case of an Inline, Helicopter, or Method Feeder rig. Zig Fishing, Fly Fishing, Float Fishing or Pole Fishing Rigs must include a lower breaking strain leader/hooklength/tippet, to avoid a Carp breaking off the whole rig. All rigs are liable to inspection by Weigh Officials; any unsafe rigs found must be changed immediately, or the Angler concerned will be disqualified from the competition. Weighing Officials decision in all such cases will be final.

    17. Limited groundbaiting (chumming) is allowed. Spods/Spombs, PVA bags, nets & string, catapults (fishing slingshots), throwing spoons, and feeders of all types are acceptable. Please bait intelligentlytoo much groundbait, chum and/or free offerings will definitely affect your chances of catching the biggest Carp, and ruin your neighbors sport, too. Please speak to the Organizer before the event about guidelines and follow the baiting advice.

    18. Scales Calibration Check - Any Angler wanting to use their scales to have their fish weighed by a neighboring Angler must present their scales for calibration check to the Weigh Officials on Friday evening (or at 5:30am on Saturday morning for those Anglers arriving on Saturday). Weigh Officials will mark checked scales for neighboring Anglers to identify which scales can be used for weighing purposes.

    19. Weighing System – Each anglers fish will be weighed and recorded by a neighboring Angler (NOT by their friend at their peg, in the case of 2 Anglers fishing together on the same peg), on the Anglers Weigh Sheet with exact weight, type (Common or Mirror Carp), and time caught. The neighboring Angler will also sign the Weigh Sheet. It is each angler’s ultimate responsibility for ensuring that his/her fish is recorded accurately, and that the Weigh Sheet is delivered to the Weigh Officials at the  end of the competition. In the event of any weighing disagreements or discrepancies, please notify the Organizer or Weigh Official immediately, within 1 hour of the end of the competition day, in person and by posting a $20 bond fee. The Organizer and Weigh Official will examine the Anglers Weigh Sheet, talk to the Recording Angler, and will advise the angler of the decision; if in the Anglers favor, the $20 bond will be returned. In all cases, the Organizers decision shall be final and binding.

    20. In the event of a tie for any total or big 4 weight awards & prizes, the angler with the biggest single fish shall be judged the winner. In the event of a tie for the weight of a single fish award or prize, the award of trophy will be decided by a coin toss.

    21. A Runner (Anglers Guest) is allowed to be with the Angler at their designated peg, to support the Anglers by netting fish, assisting the Weigh Officials with the weighing and recording of fish, and by releasing fish safely back to the water. In addition, the Runner can leave the peg at any time, to fetch food and drink, carry the Anglers gear, and liaise with spectators, the Weigh Team, and Media Representatives. The Runner cannot carry in additional bait (more than the 5 gallon pail limit), mix or prepare bait, groundbait, chum, or any other carp feed. The Runner cannot bait the hook for the angler, cast out, or otherwise touch the fishing rod until the fish is netted; at that point the Runner may move the rod and net out of the way, assist with unhooking the fish, and liaise with the Weigh Official

    22. Anglers are responsible for their own property, safety and liability for any damage or injury to others. The Organizer of this competition, the Sponsors, and the City of Kewaunee waive any and all liability for any personal loss or injury, howsoever caused; this is an “enter-at-your-own-risk” event. Please remember that there are likely to be spectators and children present at all times. Look behind you before you cast! Anglers will be required to sign a waiver before being allowed to draw; any refusal to sign will result in instant disqualification of that Angler.

    23. The $50 Entry Fee must be fully paid to CAG before the draw on August 6th. This event will be limited to a maximum of 50 Anglers.

    24. If the event needs to be cancelled, due to extreme weather conditions, any refunds will be at the sole discretion of the CAG BOD; their decision will be final.
  6. On June 8, 2016 at 7:46 PM, Bill Hodge said:

Is there going to be a limit to the number of entries for the CCC?

I was told by several of the CAG Board members that I needed to plan for up to 50 Anglers fishing. I selected Kewaunee because I can find 50 good peg positions around the harbor and in the lower section of the river.

I don't think it would be a major problem to add more than 50 pegs, but that would result in one or more sections being outside of town limits and the close parking to the planned sections (in most sections, the Anglers can literally park behind their pegs). This would probably mean a longer walk for those additional Anglers, up to 250 yards.

  7. For any Anglers wishing to fish before or after the CCC, there are literally hundreds of options within an hours drive of Kewaunee, whether fishing for just Carp, or multiple species. Top Carp venues include:

Great Lakes - Sturgeon Bay, Bailey's Harbor, Green Bay East Shore.

Inland Lakes - Lake Winnebago at Menasha, Neenah, and Oshkosh, Little Lake Butte des Mortes at Appleton.

Green Bay Trib Rivers - Fox River, from Green Bay, through De Pere, Wrightstown, Combined Locks, Kaukauna, and Appleton,

    Oconto River & Peshtigo River.

Lake Michigan Trib Rivers - West & East Twin Rivers, Two Rivers,  Manitowoc River, Sheboygan River, Ahnapee River, Algoma.

There are plenty of Carp to twenty plus and a genuine chance at a fish over thirty, at all of the locations above. Kewaunee in August also holds some good fish. :o)

  8. I think there's a little confusion about the venue; I will attempt to clarify.

Kewaunee (like all Lake Michigan Harbor Towns) is a "Salmon Town", throughout the Salmon Season - late June through late September. Thousands of out-of-state Anglers and their families spend weekends, weeks, or months in Kewaunee and all the other Salmon Towns; staying at the campsites, the marinas, and the local hotels.

There's no official event clash with the CCC, but everything that floats (and some things that really don't) will be leaving Kewaunee Harbor and heading out to the Lake from first light to about 7am. The boats tend to return about mid-morning, and then there's another run out to the Lake mid-afternoon. So, back-leads are a must on most pegs, and I use brightly colored line, so the boaters can see when I'm fighting a fish.

While some may find this difficult fishing, it really is a lot easier than trying to run a Carp Tournament on any other WI body of water... You won't have random swimmers, windsurfers, kayakers, jet skis, pontoons, and powerboats (with & without water skiers) to contend with. WI is a very popular state with vacationers who enjoy being out on the water; the good news is that at least 90% of the boat traffic we will have to deal with on August 6th is angling minded.

  9. As I'm the sole CAG representative up here in Carp Heaven, I've taken a more "individual/small group" collaborative & informal approach to getting Anglers better acquainted with Catch & Release Carp Fishing. While I run one Fish-In every year (I'm planning the 2016 for Aug 14), I also try to take interested individuals or small groups in free guided trips throughout the season.

I use the larger WI Tournaments as a "Want to Learn About Carp Fishing?" informal invite to guided trips, generating interest using the Media (e.g TV, Radio, Magazines , etc.) in these events.

  10. Thanks (I think? LOL) to all those who "voted" for me to host something in WI. It's good to know that my efforts to help the North American C&R Carp Tournament Angling Community, the WI CC Organizers, and Two Rivers Business Association are appreciated.

I agree with much of what has been said in this forum, and I believe that there are a few misconceptions about fishing tournament organization still circulating here (just my perspective, so I may of course be wrong; I often am!). Unfortunately, any one of those misconceptions can seriously and adversely affect an event, to the point that it becomes uneconomic to run.

I would be happy to provide some free consulting to the CAG Board (I have 25+ years experience in successful fishing event conceptualization, initiation, planning, execution, and closing, up to and including FIPSed World Championships), if needed.

  11. Hi Folks,

Team USA Carp Squad is about to fly out to the 2015 World Carp Fishing Championships.

This year, the WCFC will be held at Caspe, Spain, at Mequinenza Reservoir, a vast lake created by damming the mighty River Ebro. It's known locally as the "Sea of Aragon", and is home to both Carp and Wels Catfish... some of those Cats are over 7 foot long!

The 2015 Squad qualified at the two Open Trials held earlier this Year:

Team USA Red - Mihai Aciu & Bogdan Bucur

Team USA White - Sean Lehrer & Billy West

Team USA Blue - Eric Glazewski & Henryk Burza

    Vice Captain - Christine Stout

And I'm honored to be selected as Captain.

The Championship runs from Wednesday the 7th through to Saturday the 10th, and we will try to keep everyone updated through our Facebook Page: Facebook.com/TeamUSACarpSquad

Thanks for all your best wishes, we are feeling proud and excited to represent our Country in friendly competition against the Worlds best carp anglers.

  12. Thanks to all that fished or stopped by to have a chat. Fishing was a little tricky both days, due to the hot weather, but enough Carp were caught to make the events fun and competitive.

Saturday morning result at Two Rivers (Big 4):

3rd with 1 fish caught in the last few minutes - Adam Schumacher - 19-10

2nd, and tied on weight but 2 fish caught - Dave Hubbard - 35-15

1st, tied on weight, but with 3 fish caught (and the 4th landed when he returned to his peg, after the event, due to weighing and recording 2 other Anglers fish caught in the last few minutes) - Lee Young - 35-15

On Sunday morning we moved to Kewaunee, for the Biggest Fish Tournament. Conditions were even hotter, with little breeze, and only 3 fish were caught:

    2nd - Carver Hansen - 13-8

    1st - Dave Hubbard - 19-1 (Dave also caught the 3rd fish).

Thanks to CAG for the 2015 Fish In Medals, and to K-1 Baits for the $25 Gift Voucher which was presented to Dave Hubbard for his Day 2 biggest fish. Dave was deservedly the Weekend Champion, with 2 fish each day earning him Gold and Silver Medals to add to his 2014 Gold.

  13. Hi Folks, just adding this as a new Forum Topic, in case anyone missed the Calendar Note:

The 2015 WI CAG Fish In will start at 7:00am at the M&M Restaurant, Washington St, Two Rivers, On Saturday, July 25th. Join us for Breakfast and a fun & friendly introduction to Catch & Release Carp Fishing Tournaments. We will start the day with a draw for pegs for 4 tournaments over the weekend:

Saturday 8:00 am to Noon - Big 4 Tournament

Saturday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Biggest Single Fish Tournament

We will move to Kewaunee and meet at Kunkle's Corner Restaurant for Breakfast at 7:00 am on Sunday, followed by:

Sunday 8:00 am to Noon - Biggest Single Fish Tournament

Sunday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Big 4 Tournament

Entry Fee for each tournament is $25, you can enter 1, 2, 3 or all 4; 100% payout. If you just want to fish but not enter any tournament, that's fine too, no entry fee required. We will also have spaces allocated for anyone new to Carp Fishing, to join in and catch some fish with the help of our local group of "Carp Experts".

CAG is providing medals for the Top 3 Biggest Carp, and 3 Biggest 4 Carp, over the entire weekend (Big Fish medals can be won either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning; Big 4 medals can be won either Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon).

    Other Activities:

50/50 Raffle in support of Team USA Carp Squad, plus other prizes

Prizes for newcomers fishing their first Carp Tournament

Overnight Friendly Fish In may be held, depending upon interest and weather conditions

Note - While all Anglers are welcome, this event is primarily for WI Carpers and those interested in fishing for Carp; while Out-of-State Anglers are eligible for the cash prizes, CAG Medals will be awarded only to WI residents.

  14. Thanks to all who sponsored me yesterday. I will be reaching out to each of you individually, to thank you for your contribution.

Fishing was tough, with blue skies and gentle breezes, which I think kept the bigger fish out in the Big Pond all day. I managed to find 34 fish (mostly males, largest fish 19-1) at Two Rivers Parking Lot F, for a total of 422 lbs.

  15. Thanks Frank, that's very generous of you!

I will message you with where to send the Check for the USAC, after the event, as I'm just waiting on confirmation of the "How & When?" of USAC sending you the Charitable Donations Tax Deduction Letter. That has changed this year, following the US Freshwater Fishing Federation (USF3) becoming part of the US Angling Confederation (USAC).

  16. Hi Folks,

I'm trying to help the Team USA 2015 Anglers and other Officials with their expenses to get to the World Carp Fishing Championships, at Caspe, Spain, in October. As you know, the WCFC is an Olympic-style event run by FIPSed (zero cash prizes, nationally selected teams by each country angling federation, tournament is fished for national pride and the right to run World Championships in the future), so every dollar raised by donations and sponsors is always gratefully received.

So, July is Team USA 2015 Carp Squad Sponsorship Month! I'm kicking off the Month by taking time on the 2nd to try to catch a Carp of two, and I'm looking for people to pledge me:

    1. A dollar (or any amount you wish) for every Carp I catch, or;

    2. A dollar for every Pound I weigh in, with;

    3. A maximum pledge ($25?), just in case I actually manage to string a few bites together.

I'm organizing a few people to record/weigh my fish, and I'm working out a good prize or two for the sponsors (I'll draw raffle tickets, 1 ticket for every $25 pledged); I like to give something back to those who give to the Team!

Please contact me if you have any questions; 920-246-3434, or lee_s_young@yahoo.com. Please reply here with pledges, or pm me, or use the Facebook Link: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1102610656422281&substory_index=0&id=100000200715210).

Thanks so much, on behalf of the Anglers and Officials of Team USA 2015 Carp Squad.
