  1. Deaconbones,

    Keep it simple [ask Kris]

Your problem is not the bait, the fish are not so trusting anymore since the events take place !! Change your swim, problem solved, even using different bait [at this stage] will be less succesfull than just moving. And by introducing some doughballs [ or corn , beans. chick peas] you give them confidence.

  2. ANISE,

Often used that when I was much younger, I really liked the anise oil !! Harder to get, I bought it at a pharmasist, no clue where you could find it. When used in either dough and/or chum releases a nice trail. Try it !

  3. Deaconbones,

Sounds like you are on to something...try this, make a few hands full of doughballs , the size you normally use. You already use one spot,..find two more....before you start fishing you go to spot I, II and III and introduce a handful of doughballs . Than go back to spot I and give it say an hour,..nothing .... go to no II....etc ...this way you can try frequently without disturbing/educating them too much.

    Good Luck

  4. It was a very hot day, and I took shelter under a huge tree...fortunately the carp were not put off by the heat , and I had a nice splash every 15 minutes, playing a carp standing in the water ! I was so busy I didn't see him coming...a young asian guy....the big smile showed more appreciation for the carp I was playing than most locals did.....! He set up about 20 yards away from me,.....after playing no xx...he came to me and gestured to the corn mumbling in a strange unfamiliar language, I tried in French and English but helas,...so in universal sign language I offered him the corn he might need. I was too busy really to take much notice of him, but some time later a loud cry made me turn my head ,...just in time to see the unfortunate angler take a dive into the river......that was rod no xxxxxx?

  5. Hi Guys,

Well I can say I had three carp on at the same time, ...and it was the last time I'll ever use 3 rods in Canada/Usa!!!.. hard to describe what happened, but not really the thing you want, ...one of those might be the one you waited for ..a long long time !! As it happens I have doubles takes on film too, ...for me no special event anymore, I tell my guests they will have a very good chance at a double take too. I was also witness to about a dozen fishing rods taking off at great speed into the St Lawrence river....leaving a bewildered ex-owner !! The use of a drag hasn't really become popular in Canada yet, most anglers apparently do not have a clue.... A funny story......true !!

When I left for Holland , a 100 liter vessel of soaked corn was left over...I asked the friend where I was staying, if I had to get rid of it,..." No, leave it there, I want to show my nephew your method how to catch carp..!"....3 months later I'm back... he told me he and his nephew went to the river and put in bait, as Jean saw me doing many times before. It was warm , and they brought a cooler with beer too, it took a while for fish to show...so they relaxed while having a few beers,....an hour and a half later, without ..warning the first rod takes off with great speed ,....I warned him to adjust the drag many times before !, ...you would think they went home, ...but instead he hired a 'chaloupe' nearby , and ancored it close to the baiting spot,...confident this time they"ll get a carp...they sit it out,....an hour later, they are dozing off....a carp takes the corn , and again the rod takes off .......bewildered my friend went home...without the 2 rods and reels !!
