  1. Are power outlets available on other alarms? I wasn't thinking of getting one of those illuminated ones. ....but now I am!  :D

    Ricky

The new delkim plus alarms have the power out sockets but the fox illuminated swinger/hangers won't work with them because the delkim uses a 3.5mm jack plug and the fox's use a 2.5mm jack plug.

  2. RickyB,

The Illuminated euro swingers(like in above pic) are the ones I have been using for about a year now. You need one of the fox alarms(RX,str,st,sx,mx,mmx) with the power out socket for the indicator to light up..they do look neat when they light up at night time. If you don't have an alarm with the power out socket, the fox euro swinger is the same..it just doesn't have the illuminated feature.

They are a good swingers but it depends on how much you want to spend,I think the Illuminated euro swingers(blue) is about $50.00 for 1. Not the cheapest swinger on the market but they do work very well. I really like the line gate on these compared to some of the other swingers/hangers I have used.

  3. Rob,

The dial is spring loaded to allow 3 different tension settings on the swinger. It has the numbers 0,1 and 2 on the dial. The swinger can be adjusted to be sensitive or heavy, to handle fishing at short to very long range. The sliding weight is 3oz.

  4. Here is a pic of what it looks like with the tag under the alarm. Then all you have to do is slide on the swinger. I use a small nut to hold on the tag, then I don't have to worry about losing the tag when I unscrew the alarm from the bankstick.

  5. The captive back leads are for after you cast out, you slide them down your mainline and it pins down your line to the bottom.

You can get the fox butt swinger and the fox MK2 swingers that have that same kind of gate system like the back leads. When you get a run and lift the rod, the gate opens and the lines comes out.

Here is a pic of some different tags. This piece is how you attach a swinger/hanger to a bankstick or buzz bar/pod set up.The first and second ones are for fox swingers/hangers and the third one is how the gardner hangers attach that I have, most of the hangers attach with a piece like this.

  6. Rob,

Here is another kind of line gate. This is a pic of the fox 2oz captive back leads but the fox butt and MKII swingers have this type of line gate. With these all you have to do is open the gate(the one on right in pic), put line in and close. They are magnetic, so the gate does stay shut. I know someone that uses the MKII's and they work very well.

  7. Rob,

Here is a line clip on a gardner tackle hanger. With these the line goes between the 2 black pieces at the top. With these you have to adjust the clip part for the diameter of line your using. When I first got these I had it adjusted to loose and when I got a bite it would fall off and then I had it to tight and when I got a run and lifted the rod it wouldn't release. Once you get them adjusted they work pretty good but I still prefer the line gate on my ill. euro swingers compared to these. I never had a problem with tangles or anything but one thing I don't like with hangers is when you lift the rod, when you have a run..the hanger comes flying back down and hits the alarm. I didn't bother me to much when I was using a $40.00 alarm but when I bought my RX's it did.

  8. Rob,

Here is a pic of the line gate on the Ill. euro swingers I have. The line goes between the 2 metal pieces and when you get a run and lift the rod..the line comes right out. I have never had a problem with it not releasing or getting tangled with this type of line gate.

  9. I ordered from leslies of luton 2 or 3 times and never had any problems, got the stuff from them with in 5-6 days but I have found with them that their not as fast and don't have the best shipping prices like other places. I recommend trying specialist tackle and you will see a big difference compared to the places you ordered from.

A lot of the shops doesn't want to deal with the USA,IMO some of it's that they don't want to remove the VAT, if you deal with the 2 top shops, tackle box and specialist tackle, they carry about every brand,so their shouldn't really be a need for other shops because when you start dealing with the small shops, most of the time they don't have the stuff in stock and you'll find that their shipping is high.

I usually order from the UK every other month or so and Paul maybe 2 or 3 times the whole year. half of the time he doesn't have the stuff in stock and says he will order it but it will take about 2 months to get it. Out of the 15 - 20 times I have ordered from the UK, their was only 1 time that they didn't have something in stock but they got it with in the week. I can get the stuff faster from the UK,than I can Paul.

I get my stuff fast and it's from the Uk and it's better quality than most of the stuff Paul carrys! IMO their are only certain things from Fox that are good and the rest is junk!

You can keep on ordering from over here and spend extra money and I'll order from the UK and get better quality products and save money! :D

  10. Karp...How many time have you ordered from the UK? It would be nice if we could get the stuff here in the states at a decent price but most of the time we are being over charged. Last year when I bought my RX alarms, wackerbaits wanted $80.00 more than the UK, I would of been crazy not to get them from the UK, with the money I saved I bought the illuminated euro swingers :D which was also $20-25 cheaper than wackerbaits. When the ACS open, if their prices are the same or cheaper than the UK, I'll buy the stuff from them, if it's not, I'll get the stuff from the Uk, doesn't matter if they are a USA based company, I'm going to buy the stuff where I can get it the cheapest.

I guess some guys don't like to save money and like to pay high prices! :D

Payara...I agree with you, theirs nothing wrong with ordering from the UK, most of the time it's cheaper anyways. Specialist tackle is a very good tackle shop to deal with. I bought most of my tackle from them in the last year, fast shipping(3-5 days) and good customer service. IMO wackerbaits deosn't have the best customer service. I ordered from 6 different tackle shops in the Uk in the last 3 years, I would rate specialist tackle and the tackle box the top two, chapmans was good too but they are no longer in business. I think alot of guy's don't order from the UK, just because they hear that the shipping is high and don't even bother checking it out for them selves.

  11. TY for the tips.. ACS is in UK huh? I stay away from UK based companies ONLY because of high shipping costs. You ever order from overseas? Whats the shipping cost damage on average and did your stuff ever get lost / damaged???

    ROB

I order 90% of my euro style tackle from the UK. The shipping cost depends on what you buy, it can range from $2-3 up to $100 or more. Out of all the times I ordered from the UK, I never had any get lost but I did have one item get broken one time, I called the tackle shop up in the UK and told them about it and they sent me another one and I didn't have to pay anything to get the replacement, received the new one in 3-4 days.

  12. Rob..I think wackerbaits did sell a different brand of banksticks besides fox, not sure how they are though, if possible I wouldn't buy the fox banksticks, i saw a few bend hammering them into the ground with a rubber mallet and the ground wasn't that hard.

Like Karp said the ACS should be open in the spring, they will be carrying the solar stuff, also they will be carrying their own brand of SS bankstinks/pods. If your going to get some banksticks, I would reccomend some Stainless ones, don't know how much the ACS stainless stuff will sell for but it should be quite a bit cheaper than the solar stuff. When comparing fox and solar prices, 4 20" fox aluminum banksticks would cost $50.00 +, for 4 solar 20" stainless banksticks it would be at least $100. +(not sure what ACS price will be, $100+ is how much they are in the UK + shipping cost). So it would cost over $50.00 more to get the solar banksticks, but remember that would be the only set you would ever need to buy, I know a couple guys who been through 2 or 3 sets of aluminum banksticks, so in the long run it would of been cheaper for them to get a good set of stainless in the first place.

Even if you would decide to get a pod down the road you can still use the banksticks for other things, I use mine sometimes to prop my net handle on and to hang my reubon heaton on, I also use one with my digital camera, their is a adapter you can buy that screws into the bottom of the camera, then screws into the banksticks, it's a neat little thing to have if you fish by yourself sometimes, incase you catch that new PB. :D

  13. payara..Stainless steel is the way to go, they will last a very long time.

If you look on the nash pod leg, it also has 2 tommy bars on it, if you would loosen the thumb screw on the leg so that outer part of the leg would turn, you probably could grab the leg at the tommy bars, push on the leg and turn at the same time and screw the leg in the ground a 1/2" or so to make the pod more stable or so it doesn't tip over etc. IMO that's what I would think they would be used for.

  14. Karp, I have the gardner tru lok pod, it has a groove on the under side of the body to stop the twisting, so when you pick it up it doesn't twist at all, it does work. Like you said with most pods the buzz bars don't stay tight or alined. With the tru lok all you have to do is put the buzz bar on top of the upright and turn a brass knob and it draws the bars down onto the pod, this pod does set up quick. The things I don't like about it is if the buzz bars are extended to far, they sag and then you get to much left to right wobble. So if you want to fish 3 rods it's not to stable. Even with those things, like you said it is probably one of the better pods of that type. But at $200. you would think it would be even better.

Did you ever try and use a leather washer on the pod so that you could get the bars a little tighter? I've seen sometimes with standard pods, when you have the bars on tight, like you said the bars don't line up, but with the leather washer, it would let you turn the bars that extra 1/8" or whatever to line them up.

IMO the best quality pods are made by Solar tackle, expensive but worth it IMO. I compared some of the solar SS to some cheaper made SS stuff and you could see a big difference in the quality. I read about guys in the UK that have been using solar stuff for 10-15 years and even with hard use, they never had any problem with the stuff and it still looks good too :D .

The two pods that I'm interested in are the solar globetrotter and the solar croc pods, since the ACS is going to carry the solar line I'm waiting to see how much they are going to sell them for, but I have a feeling it will probably be about the same as getting it from the UK. I want a pod that I can use the same set of buzz bars on the pod or as a goalpost setup and you can do this with the solar stuff.
