  1. Dan's (Slimy's) Mississippi River proposal is an intriguing one and elicits visions of an event I would definitely want to attend. However, it seems to fly in the face of a primary goal of the CCC; that is, to provide an opportunity to rub elbows with CAG leadership and to meet other CAG members from around the world. Fishing at sites along the Big Muddy would be fun for many of us, but it doesn't provide a centralized meeting place. Doesn't that make it just a glorified CAGI?

Tom B's/Tony's/Marcy's recent CCC event was obviously very successful and had all the elements of a traditionally successful CCC, except one. That exception was well presented in an interesting metaphor by Bruce Mitchell. 800+ were invited to the party and only 20-30 "friends" showed up. However, if those numbers could be increased over a bit of time and if a paylake or paylakes could accommodate 80-100 anglers with some provisions for a central location for meetings and get-togethers, then call me "on-board" for more southern hospitality.

Looking through a variety of lenses, I think Chicago still holds the most potential. From what I have learned from the "founders" of CAG and through my own experiences, the CCC is more than a fish-in or tournament. It allows members an opportunity to communicate (face to face) with one another and to enjoy the culture, attractions, and atmosphere of the host community. With no offense to the towns along the Mississippi or to those surrounding Midway II, it's tough to beat the draw of Chicago. The Windy City is much more centrally located and may not offer that terrific NC BBQ, but there are a couple decent restaurants around.

Of course, I realize that the lack of fish caught at the most recent CCC's in Chicago was another primary reason for the move to other locations. I had a brief discussion with Dr. Pezalla this morning, and we thought outloud about having one central meeting location and then having the fishing event at, perhaps, a variety of venues such as Montrose, Burnham, Jackson, and Diversey Harbors. That would alleviate the pressure on the fish and allow peg distances that are a bit more manageable. Or, perhaps, have a two day tournament and use the WI Carp Championships format. Have one set of anglers fish the harbors on day one with another set of carpers fishing the Chicago River at Ashland, Bryn Mawr, Kedzie, etc. on the same day. Then flip on day two.

I appreciate those who think outside the box, but I only hope that the original purpose of a CCC is not diminished by something too far-fetched. I'll certainly support whatever the final outcome may be--Frank

    Very nice.

  2. Well it seems to me that we have a few in the group that talk a very big game with very little acting. With that being said here is my two cents worth.

First thing is unless you have seen Tom Brooks in action back –off. I have known him for over 20 years. And I have worked for him. I know it to be a fact if anyone knows how to get things done its him.

Second thing is how to get more members? Well I personal know that Tony and I can get over 100 and not try hard. Yes already on this before you ask. Now can anyone of you who are trash talking do the same…..?

Third thing is it should not matter where it is held as long as we the MEMBERS have a fun time meeting each other and fishing. Personal I would much prefer a place where I can bring my kids and grandkids. You know I don’t want them to be where they have to hear or see grown people act and talk certain ways, I am sure you know what I mean!!!!

Fourth thing is money. The cost of an event should and does include food and drink for dinner. And for the fishing done if prizes are giving, if it is money or fishing stuff or for trophy’s! Oh yea let’s not forget we need to get more sponsors’ to donate to our events. From local sponsor’s to worldwide sponsor’s. This can be done! Done that being there…

Fifth thing is we the paying members need to support our leaders in CAG not just the ones close to us but each one of them. And don’t trash’s them if you don’t agree with them. As once told you get more bees from honey that salt… If Tom or Tony did this to their patrons’ they would not be the very successful men they are today. Trust me when I say this!!! Two small business owners who are still in business in this day and time must be pretty smart guys. And it seems to me that they are trying hard to help CAG. Not hurt us.

Now with all this said I am not "REPEAT" not trying to get anyone mad or step on toes after all I am a southern bell know as carplady1 who was raised up on a pay lake from birth, and love people in all parts of this great United States of America. It’s not the south against the north for crying out loud. We are called CAG the Carp Anglers Group of the US.

Well you've got the talking part done.

  3. Now that is a great idea for a CCC, The Mississippi River!!

Imagine the CCC the length of the Mississippi River. A venue in each state that borders the Mississippi River, held at the same time, on the same day.

State Chairs would have to work together to make something like this happen.

Can you imagine the publicity this would generate!!!

Hey Mario, how's that for thinking out of the box? :)

    A Mississippi river CAGI.

    Sounds great.

  4. Bruce.

Several things come to mind. One, I never met most of the cag members that attended this years ccc, so to call them my friends would only be acceptable if your talking about their feelings after the event.

Two, the CCC isnt a " friends" event but an annual club meeting.

I might add that the only reason your backside is raw is because so many did attend and all had a great time. jmho.. I would also add that the bottom line for cag in this years ccc should fall in line with the DC event.. Percentage wise it would far surpass it or any other ccc event. :) jmho. :D

ps.. I sure hope your ccc is as successfull. :P

It seems I have to explain my posts to you. Friends are members. I would think that a annual club meeting might best be held at a event and location where the most members or friends might attend. My backside is not raw I just asked a question. You are the one that's squirming. Percentage doesn't mean anything, the actual number does. Is it a secret number? Is it to much to ask? It is CAG's CCC not yours or mine.

P.S. Notice no smiley faces were needed on this post. Say what what you mean and don't try to justify it with a smiley face.

  5. This should be one of the things that sway the cag BOD when it makes its choice. Money talks and BS walks. :D While I could live off love for at least 10 days in my younger days, nowadays I have both feet firmly planted on the ground and understand that without money I get pretty hungry very quick. :)

ps.. I think the cag treasurer's job has an opening......... This way you'll know just how much is really needed...... :P

    step up and GUS.

(I think CAG should keep in mind what is best for the event and best for CAG, this will be the best idea. Food, lodging, friendly gatherings, lots of fish, and a nice bottom line $$$ for CAG... The bar has been set)

When you wrote this you said the bar has been set, indicating to me that the CAG is receiving a nice bottom line on this CCC. That is what I was wondering is what that figure is?

If I had over 800 friends and invited them all to a barbecue and only 20 showed up then there might be a problem with my barbecue or who I had help me with it. The next party I had might be one that more of my friends were interested in. I am not saying that the 20 friends that did show up didn't have a great time.

  6. I think cag should keep in mind what is best for the event and best for cag, this will be the best idea. Food, lodging, friendly gatherings, lots of fish, and a nice bottom line $$$ for CAG... The bar has been set, please don't lower it just to be doing something. :) While the formatt might be played with I think the bottom line should remain constant, quality for the cag member and for cag... :D

ps.. when I talk about the formatt changing I mean things like this years ccc offered a bivi camp for the anglers at the place of the event. This offered those that might not be able to afford a room or had rather party,( I prefere a nice warm/soft bed ), to do so. This is a BIG Positive for the evenent.

I was wondering how much a nice bottom line $$$ for CAG is.

  7. Me too........so......

If I'm fortunate enough to catch a State Record from a water where:

    A. I have to pay to fish; or

    B. The potential record fish originally lived in another water; or

    C. The potential record fish has been caught before; or

    D. Many other carp anglers have previously fished (and thrown in lots of bait) e.g. Town Lake, Miller Park Lake.

    Does it count? B)

There are no Carp in Miller Park
