  1. if you are looking for a good place to cut your teeth on some hard fighten little piggies try the tonawanda creek here in batavia mainly west of rt 98. there are 100's of fish between 5-14 lbs. a few seasons ago i fished it exclusively just to get a handle on the size that was in here and banked over 600 fish. these fish taught me a lot about location, feeding habits, effects of weather and seasons, and how to fight these demons. they love to try and tangle you up in whatever debri they can find. simple baits work well on this water as they fish are aggressivly competing for your baits. i would suggest using maize, sweetcorn, jello doughballs, or any other simple bait. my daughter loves to use french fries on this water, mac donalds works the best. oh yeah pescaviva corn from wackerbaits really turns these fish on.

now if you are looking for a water that is a bit more challenging try the dewitt park pond. these fish take a bit more work but in the end you could end up with a nice near 30 lb mirror. these fish have a lot of natural food to choose from so learning thier movements and feeding habits is essential. the margins(shoreline) produces very few fish due to the constant parade of anglers walking the banks looking for other spieces. most of the reed beds produce carp but heavy gear is needed to keep them out. prebaiting really helps on this water.

there are also a couple of easy waters near rochester i can fill you in about if you want. lets not forget the erie canal, very nomadic carp but will stay if chum is introduced. most of the waters around us have carp but most of them are stunted due to a lack of sufficent forage so just about any bait will work.

when are you and you friend heading up to pt breeze? i am usually up there every weekend, friday night until sunday afternoon. if you happen to see a guy with outragous looking gear and really long rods stop over and say hi. i can show you some of the rigs that have helped put the local carp in my net.

  2. hey hows it going mrcarp2000? i am located in batavia, ny about 30 mins from you. we will have to hook up after all this snow melts and the snowmobiles are put up! i fish point breeze quite a bit and have had some real nice fish from there. get a hold of me and we can get together and see if we cant get a few wackers this season.

  3. you dont think he is looking for a sponsor or anything like that do you :D:D

that picture will never do that fish justice if it was truely 91 lbs. someone should have held it and they should have taken a pic from above(so thet we could have seen how wide it was) so that we could all understand what a beast that thing must have been.

i really hope that fish as far as eating is concerned was as tough as burlap!!! :D

  4. heres a question for ya. what if we cant get anyone to go with us can we still enter? the area in NY that i am from you cant find alot of people who like to catch carp but the biggest problem will be getting someone to sit out in 30 degree weather(that isn t counting the wind chill) and walk through the foot of snow!!!

    i second the Phone Award!!!

  5. i caught an almost leather carp from my local creek. it was a 14lber with 2 nickel sized scales near its tail on both sides it was a beautiful creamy brown color. due to it not being a real leather i named it Pleather. i have been trying to catch it again but with no luck! i do have some pics of it and if i ever get a scanner i will post them. i also have a couple of gravel pits locally that have nothing but mirrors up to 30lbs in them. there are also a few small creeks that have them too. most of bigger lakes and rivers here have commons in them though.

hey if any of guys who do not have mirrors in your area want to catch some gravel pit mirrors let me know as i am always looking for company on the bank.

  6. billy where is that weedbed in relationship to your baited area?

i have found that as certian weeds, have no idea thier names, start to die in the fall carp will avoid them. whether it has to do with the carbon(whatever) or the smell i have no idea.

  7. have to agree with neils and adict that the fish are entering your swim from the left, but as for the bait preference neils spoke of i have not had that experience. i have had the fish hit the right rod but it was only when the left rod was either into a fish or being rebaited.
