Where do you attach such devices; on the hook, near the hook? And how do you attach a golf ball to the line?

I've never used pop ups before and I think I need to learn how to present them. Where I've been fishing recently has now got quite a bit of weed on the bottom and the fishing has slowed down for me.

I already have some pop up boilies and just need some advice on what sort of set up works best.

I've looked back at old threads but haven't been able to find anything (although I'm sure there have been lots).

Is it normally the bait itself that provides the buoyancy or can you use other buoyant materials to lift the bait?
